Been looking for a decent petrol lawn mower that doesn't break the bank and this seems to have a decent spec at a good price. Also comes with a 36 month warranty and free postage.

Sorry to say but I've had numerous issues with the Briggs & Stratton engine in my Makita mower.

Having said that Aldi are very good at honouring their warranties, so keep your receipt nice and safe.

A good price for a self propelled mower. Most mowers these days are poor build quality,even the Mountfield and Qualcast so for about £80 less with a 3 year warranty I think this is worth a punt so I've ordered one. Most other popular mowers have B&S engines so no issues there.

for some reason i feel more reassured buying from Tesco rather than Aldi on times like this...although we do food shop in Aldi all the time.

So you would prefer a 12 months Tesco warranty machine rather than 3 years aldi machine bearing in mind Aldi warranty is one of best no quibble warranties going ....go for it ..personally no brainer Aldi all the way.

I have the same engine in my Wilko mower, had it just over a year and been fine.
Was a little hard to start this year after being stood for 4-5 months as I left it with fuel in by mistake.

Thinking of ordering this as my very old Mountfield has finally died (not the B&S engine but the deck which has corroded because of my laziness to properly clean it over the years - that itself was a Bargaincrazy bargain!)

It is made in China but with Aldi's 3 yr warranty seems a good buy over other budget mowers which will probably only come with 1 yr.

Since someone has mentioned the b&q lawnmower, I'll throw my tuppence in, and tell you that mine, bought last year for £97 has been great!

I use it as part of my job and it starts fine, and counters along quite happily.

Replacing the rubbish Chinese plug with and Ngk helped enormously! :smile:

Aldi's warranty is sterling. I have made a warranty claim on one of their own-brand drills after 2 years. Received a replacement no questions asked. Just retain your receipt in a safe place.

Metal deck, handle etc by the look of in the flesh pics I have seen. Obviously the grass collector and some peripheral parts are plastic. The deck is certainly metal (and for this money it won't be aluminium!).

I have pretty big gardens but use an electric bosh 42mm cut mower which is still going strong after 5 years.
Always fancied a petrol mower but feel the running costs I would of thought are higher and the hasal of fetching fuel etc puts me off.

Had a Makita B&S for 3 years now, cut the grass in the summer every other week & have a pretty decent sized front & rear garden.

Probably cost me £20 in petrol & 4L of oil.

Running costs will be negligible once you factor in how much time you will save.

I got decent sized front and back gardens, takes about 45 mins to mow them yet i doubt I get through a 5 litre petrol (£5 at todays prices) can in a single season so don't really think running costs should be a factor. Most allow you to use basic motor oil too, but you certainly don't need to change the oil every year! I bought my mower in 2000 and its still runs and starts fine, have had to replace some fuel hoses and the starter cord in that time though. Never changed the spark plug mind!

I do have a question about cutting height - most petrol mowers have a cutting height of 25+mm, I like the grass pretty short having previously had a hover mower and there are recommendations to cut down to 10-20mm. Is this a feature with petrol lawnmowers, or is 25mm 'short enough' ?

Put the mower into action this evening and it was a joy! So easy compared to my Flymo. It didn't like long grass much and cut out a couple of times on the 3rd lowest setting. The grass collection is not as good as the Flymo and the wheels slipped a few times but otherwise pretty impressed. I did have issues starting the engine once or twice but it maybe because of the blade not being free to turn. Also to answer my own question the cutting heights are good, the lowest setting is as low as I would want!

Do you think itt was worth the £180? I'm really wanting a new lawnmower. I've moved house and the gardens are bigger and the location of plug sockets is likely to mean dangling extension cables out of window last and doors

I think it's value for money - if you have a 'large' garden and feel you would struggle pushing a regular mower then the self propulsion is certainly a big winner, and no cord makes life pretty simple to get around. I'm not sure how much better the competitive mowers would be at twice the price.

I've heard really good things about this mower, but I just can't get past the fact it was on offer for £90 in some stores a while back. Missed that deal by a whisker and can't bring myself to pay full price now!! :disappointed:
