It appears that children get a £13 discount on Ryanair for travel - if you therefore book a fare advertised at below this - the fare was £9.99 in my case, they take £13 off, therefore my child has no charge (actually, a 1p charge but let's not quibble!) for travelling from Edinburgh to London next month.
This is the screen shot showing the costs of £10 for both of us to travel one way.
hope this helps someone!

Go to the 99p store and use your change to get your child to France.

I guess you still have to pay taxes and fees which make up the lion's share of the total cost though.
Good find though.

No, their fares are all inclusive now for the flights (excluding hire cars, luggage etc).
Ryanair have done quite a bit to improve their image/service recently, it would be worth checking before making such comments.
We've used them for years, you're not going to get top notch service for £20-100 each way but it's got us from a to b perfectly well for years.

Just to highlight one important thing mentioned in that article. APD has now been scrapped (from 1st March 2016) for children under 16 not just 12. If you booked before March for travel afterwards check if you are due a refund. I booked an August flight to the USA in January and Virgin's website applied the tax for a 12 year old. I had to call to make the booking without the tax - which was something like £70.

Is this only on flights from the UK and not the return (if outside the UK)
