This is a variation of the Aberlour 12. It's £40 pretty much everywhere.
At a higher ABV (48% vs 40%) and without the use of chill filtering the whisky holds on to more of its original flavour profiles. Reviews are extremely positive.
This Twelve Year Old Aberlour has been matured in two cask types. Traditional oak and Sherry oak casks. Especially selected every year, they are filled with whisky and quietly aged for a minimum of twelve years; then the casks are married together.
Traditional oak casks encourage the subtle character of Aberlour to develop, whilst Sherry oak casks add hints of ruby gold colour and a deep and rich flavour to the whisky. A perfectly balanced single malt with notes of fruits and spices.

48% proof takes some getting used to. Highly marked by the whisky experts. Its a good buy at this price and worth the heat.

No shame in adding a drop of water to make it suit individual palates. I've got some of the Aberlour A'Bunadh which is bottled at cask strength (60.1%), and it's impossible to drink that neat - just numbs your mouth!

Cask Strength Aberlour A'Bunadh is 60.5% ABV and it packs some serious punch. I have a bottle of both and while the 12 is cheap, the A'Bunadh is a clear winner.

Have been wanting to try this, the 12 is very respectable, smokin' hot!
