I already had a Tesco card so I phoned them to see if they could give me the same deal but was told "we can't give you this but you can have 2 cards at the same time"
just incase any existing customers wanted this deal  I got a pretty good credit limit too!

I phoned up as well and they said that they couldn't give me that deal and that a second card could be opened. I opted out of getting a second card since i don't want too many credit cards in my credit profile/rating.
Great offer none the less

Surely if you opened up a second card you could just close the other???

Does having too many credit cards have a negative effect on your rating then?
I used to have about four or five, maybe even six a few years, whilst now I got three.
I've only ever done the free interest balance transfers on a couple of big purchases many many moons ago and paid them up well before the interest free ran out.
Nowadays I don't seem to have the need to buy such big things and thus pay my balance in full every month on all the cards regardless how much or little the amounts might be.
I can't imagine that would look bad on any credit report?

Better to use them if you have them as long as you are good at paying them off. Late payments hammer you credit score. Having a big credit limit doesn't get you a better score. I called my bank and lowered my credit limit because I rarely use it, and clear it every month when I do.

I bought my flat off the council at full discount three or four years ago, as in cash straight out of the family nest egg so I am a proper 'home owner' by definition of not having a mortgage. I'd like to think that counts for something too?
I'm stranded abroad due to family duties/commitments so the only real credit activity happening on my profile is bits n pieces I use the cards for and my utility bills that all get paid on the dot.
I know it's easy enough to check what's being noted about you with bods like Experian but I really have no need to because my financial affairs back home are as good as lying dormant whilst I'm out here on the continent.

I have one of these since just over a year ago (the same deal someone above mentioned) and haven't had any issues at all. Haven't had to contact CS as everything has been fine, I use it every day for spending both in shops and online.

I second this, my husband has a Tesco credit card and we have never had any issues with it either, only had to contact customer service one or twice just for queries and both times the customer service has been good

How do you apply on application? They only seem to want a credit card number. Or do you open it and then call them up to transfer?
Thanks

To be honest I don't know. I just saw it during application process that the rate and term is the same, but I would try to enter your bank card details. Worst can happen it will be rejected and you will have to call them

Found the answer, what I described is a 'money transfer' card, similar but 3.94% charge, same 40 months interest free:
I'm talking about OP's deal. I applied for the card and during application process there was mention what is included like Extra Clubcard points etc. One of which was money transfer option with the same "rules" as balance transfer.

Consolidating my MSc debt onto this will save me a lot of money, thanks.

How weird, they told me over the phone it couldn't be done and I have had to cancel the original and wait another month to apply again!
