It'd be a really good deal if I could get any of the 10% off vouchers kicking around the internet to actually work with this. As they won't, it's a decent price, but that's about it.
Zavvi has the worst customer service among online retailers, avoid at all cost.

Still clueless as to why people don't upgrade their hard drives themselves.

But the standard price for a 500gb model is much the same as this deal, so surely worth buying this and upgrading yourself later?

Seeing as the internal is SATA II, enough USB3 ports and the price of large USB3 externals dropping doesnt seem like its worth the risk for the average person.
The risk of opening the console, voiding a warranty, buying a separate drive, cloning and restoring the old drive to the new in Linux inst really what your average gamer is looking to do...
I was holding out for the 1TB to drop to a decent price but when I found out it was SATA II I thought screw it, wait for a decent deal on a 500GB, a 2TB USB3 and use the internal for updates, XBLA etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be sticking in a 2TB internal when the warranty's gone, simply for the fact that I can

Really don't think this is that great of a deal, and considering it zavvi as well who have terrible customer service.

Looking for advice. I think this is a great deal, but so tempted to just go for the Elite. Does anyone know if the Elite is actually worth the £399. Or is it worth just getting an elite controller with this and saving £20?

The saving is more than £20, if you get the elite you only get one pad, standard xbox includes a wireless pad (cost about £30-40) Solid state drive is appealing though....

It's a lot of technical knowledge to make the change, you can buy an external 2Tb for £40-50. This also gives a performance improvement over the internal drive.

Yes the solid state drive does appeal, although I have read on a number of reviews that the drive only speeds things up slightly. As it isn't a true Solid State drive its a solid state hybrid drive which is part mechanical part SSD. But I personally think this deal plus an Elite Controller makes most sense as things stand.

Would John Lewis price match this?
*Update: ignore that, just checked and they're out of stock. Might do if it comes back in though

Only if Zavvi sell on the same basis. As in they sell via the internet and have shops on the high-street. I tried to get them to price match Very and they wouldn't as Very don't have high-street stores. I think Zavvi are internet only nowadays.

Gets you the division for £15 extra
Pretty much standard price to be honest.
