Some games you want to keep. I don't buy a game and think right I'm gonna finish it as fast as I can then flog it. Take for example Borderlands, I went digital with that because a, I love it and b, I won't ever get bored of it. Most gamers won't be thinking about money towards their next game because they will have around 10 piled up waiting to start.

I don't see the point in digital, you can't sell on if it is no good/not your thing. Also, once finished with a physical copy, you can sell it on to re-invest in your next game. Each to their own though

With digital games on PlayStation (at least from personal experience on PS3) if a game goes on for too long without its licence renewed it (by signing in to the PSN account) becomes unplayable so no use having it. Another issue with digital format is that you never really own the product but rather rely on the service to keep it stored on the server until they decide to remove (still downloadable if on the Download History list).
Xbox 360 is different, though. The licence doesn't expire and you can play the games whenever you want, except, the Indie ones but honestly, those are a piece of garbage for the most part so don't care about them (think of it as Early Steam Access games).
EDIT: You can also copy the 360 digital games over to your USB/HDD and store them on the PC and on a CD or DVD if you'd want.

Only physical copies I buy now are PS3 games because they are cheap and I collect them. Digital all the way for PS4 I don't own a single physical copy on PS4. Also better for late night gaming making the console run quieter. If my hard drive dies I can simply buy another unlike if the blu ray drive fails u have to open it up and replace the damn thing. Plus if you have 2 PS4s you can coop without having to buy another copy, and also boost Multiplayer trophies again without having to buy another copy... Or gameshare with a friend. So yea Digital imo is way better

Sony could literally ban you for any reason or go out of business you will have losed thousands of pounds worth of content. Relying on a companies goodwill is stupid but this generation are stupid people so go right ahead. Would you put your faith in a complete stranger by giving them your credit cards and details and not expect them to take advantage? Never put your faith on anyone but yourself.

I agree, some games you do want to keep. I'd never buy a game to rush through it but once it has been completed and has no replay value then it is time to sell it on rather than being stuck with it. The money from that certainly helps out towards the next purchase, more so when you've got bills to pay which have to come first. I've kept Borderlands too as there is a lot of reply value in that and is always good for a blast

If I know I enjoy a game and will get plenty out of it I'll buy it digitally, I have 3 kids and 2 are under the age of 3 and they seem to love picking up blu Rays and DVDs, so it gives me peace of mind knowing they can't scratch my games.

Or the fact that the Game Collection deal is for a bundle copy, whilst it was only a pound more for a non-bundle copy. I don't trade games in, but I'd be interested to know if trading in a bundle copy would have a financial effect against a non-bundle copy?
I too used to be on the idea that holding physical copies was the only way for me, not sure why though, like I've already said, I don't really trade games in.
I still purchase physical copies of games, but only if they are stupidly cheap (LittleBigPlanet 3 £3 Tesco, Sleeping Dogs £4 Amazon). I intentionally upgraded my console to a 2TB for a digital future.
£22.99 for a physical copy, £21.84 for a digital copy, I personally feel they are both good deals. I guess we just have to appreciate that there is a market for both a physical copy and a digital copy.

I love how people are saying digital is better because they don't trade their games in. Yeah, because buying physical means you HAVE to sell them later right?
Apart from resale value physical has a lot of other advantages. For starters the game is yours to keep and play forever. You don't have to worry about a digital license expiring and your game becoming unplayable in the future.
You can lend your game to a friend with minimal hassle. He can put the disc in and play with no restrictions. You can't do that with digital.
Installing a retail disc is much faster than downloading the same game. All of you who have gone digital - your space will run out eventually and you'll have to delete games. When you want to play an older game again you have to redownload upto 50GB of data + patches all over again. That could take a VERY long time with Sony's rubbish servers. If you own the game on disc you can reinstall it in a matter of minutes and play.
Physical is almost ALWAYS cheaper than digital. If you order from the right places you'll also get your games delivered upto a week early. This happened with both MGSV and the Uncharted Collection when I ordered from simplygames.
In all honesty the only advantage digital offer over physical is that after you've waited a week for it to finish downloading you don't have to get off your **** to switch discs. Considering how many advantages physical ownership offers, that's something I'm more than willing to do :sunglasses:

on console maybe. on PC digital copies are v cheap, i dont trade games anyway so resale value means nothing to me, i can give a friend my steam login and they can play my entire library. The potential inability to play a game in years to come, say if steam goes pop, is an interesting point, however in reality i suspect you will almost always be able to find a torrent of a particular game should that ever happen, which i'll have no issue doing if i've previously bought a game.

Agreed. This is why companies want a download only future as they are basically selling you a rental. A promise that they can break at any time. Also the fact that Sony who seem to hate the idea of backwards compatibility as they want to resell games people have previously bought over and over again all those downloaded PS4 games will all become obsolete once PS5 releases but if you buy physical you could sell those games and recoup some of that money buying a new console. Until Sony guarantees future backwards compatibility I will never support buying downloads over discs.

Looks to me like you have really bad Internet. Takes me less than an hour to download 50gb. Digital is a hell of a lot cheaper if you know how to get PSN credit cheap using O2 sims..... So far this year I have spent £20 for £250 psn credit.
If you have a family and own say 2 consoles you only have to buy 1 digital copy to use on both systems at the same time where as you would need 2 physical copies.... Want to play say Black Ops 3 with ya mate no problem just simply activate his account on ur console and ur done..... U can't do that with physical! Unless u split screen haha.

I linked to that in the first 14 words of my comment  I was comparing the prices of the two items I would be considering, as we're discussing value, is the £21.95 bundle copy or the £22.99 non bundle copy the better value?

In my experience as long as they accept it they pay the same for a bundle copy, non-bundle copy, and even for a low-level limited edition copy if they can get away with it. Like steelbooks, you know you could get more on ebay but don't expect any more from GAME with their lousy set prices...
Edit: Even a sealed game they will only pay you the same amount unless you are returning it under a receipt.
BuzzDuraband
27 Jan 16#36
Which is completely the opposite of what I do. I'm not disagreeing with your stance on the physical vs digital argument, it's how you see the item as a deal. You prefer physical copies, I appreciate that. Believe me, I have been there and argued that physical and digital copies should have a far distance between them in terms of cost.
But I now understand that there are two different types of a market for video gaming, there is those that prefer a shelf full of an actual product, and there is those who prefer a hard drive full of content. It doesn't make this deal (one of the cheapest yet for a digital copy, apart from the US version) a cold deal to everybody.

Heat for the deal before I start
The digital vs physical debate surfaces too often so here are all the arguments objectively put:
Digital Pros: Pre-downloads, game-sharing with 1 other person without geographical limits, cheap credit available, no disc swapping (Remote Play all your games), undamagable, less clutter.
Physical Pros: Resale value, generally cheaper (but face value), unlimited local disc sharing, playable despite account or service status, physical content (maps, etc).
Fables: Disk space, load-times, purchase-to-play time (varied due to bandwidth and delivery / travel time).
I generally decide for each game, based on replay value and any deals that might be doing the rounds.

I often buy games physically and if I like them enough I sell them to rebuy them again digitally. The convenience is like going from CDs to MP3s. I dont care about so called 'ownership'. Games like Driveclub and GTAV get so much play on my system that by the time I do tire of them and want to sell them on they'd be worthless anyway. If my collection or console do get nicked I can just re-download them. I stocked up on PSN credit at half price so for me digital often works out cheaper and more convenient than disk deals. For me, this trilogy works out cheaper than a single cinema ticket here in London. I get that some people hate digital but I think both formats have their merits and downsides.

I don't have follow enabled in my profile. Actually I disabled it when you started following me. I found it odd that you never vote on my deals and you submit threads on reddit complaining about me so I came to the conclusion that you are voting cold on everything I post and I wasn't wrong was I. The fact that you go to the trouble to start threads on reddit about me showed me how childish/immature you really are.
As for the 'deal' the whole physical Vs digital argument doesn't really matter. There are thousands of people logging into HUKD. Some will prefer digital and others will prefer physical. This thread I have submitted is for the ones who want this price which is (I think) the lowest UK price for digital yet. Everybody has the right to vote either way. This has reached this temperature because people have wanted to vote hot not because I have paid them to.

I vote on your deals quite a lot actually; I've also purchased a few things through them, most recent one would have been the Runtastic Pro app. You probably don't notice it because of the volume of your deals.
The deals I don't vote on are those that are usually 'Now 25p cheaper!' type things.

I'm on 200mb Virgin and that has nothing to do with it. The PSN servers in general are utter ****. And you're a mug if you think I'll buy that £20 for £250 worth of games spiel
Scratching discs? Blu-Rays are scratch resistant. And apart from being inside the console or inside the case, how exactly are they going to get scratched? God knows how people managed to keep them scratch free for the past 25 years or so before the Internet came along...

Been gaming using discs since the PS1 era. Never managed to scratch any of them. God knows what you do with your discs to get them scratched.
I don't need to ring Virgin for anything. Almost all my devices download and stream extremely fast. PS4 is the only device in my house that is slow regardless of the time of day. Sony just have **** servers and this is common knowledge.
You like digital - good for you. But if you're going to defend it at least say something believable

No problem. I bet you won't if it has an update lol. I didn't have to go anywhere to get it oh and it was basically free hahaha. What I don't get is how expensive digital copies are over physical copies. Production costs for physical copies must be far more than digitial copies?
Also, you never really own a copy of the game and worryingly if any issues arise with your console and/or account. Storage space is also a concern when they release a console with a small size.
I think it will be a while before we see a shift from physical to digital.
PrinceRules64
27 Jan 16#57
Making the game properly is the majority of the costs though, and in that I include all the legal and financial costs, since most of these games aren't just made carelessly in a garage. These costs need to be paid even if it's sold as a few gigs over a wire, but it's easy to forget that distribution costs still exist in terms of providing all the translations for all the storefronts you want to release it under (the dozens of european languages), and those costs weigh even heavier when there's not a physical release to share the burden.

Fables: Disk space, load-times, purchase-to-play time (varied due to bandwidth and delivery / travel time).
I generally decide for each game, based on replay value and any deals that might be doing the rounds.
The deals I don't vote on are those that are usually 'Now 25p cheaper!' type things.
I don't think I've ever created a thread about you anywhere.
Feel free to enable your messaging and discuss further, this isn't really the place for it though.
You sure about that?
What connection are you on?
Scratching discs? Blu-Rays are scratch resistant. And apart from being inside the console or inside the case, how exactly are they going to get scratched? God knows how people managed to keep them scratch free for the past 25 years or so before the Internet came along...
And they are scratch resistant hahaha what an idiot. Yea very light scratch resistant. They are very easily scratched
I don't need to ring Virgin for anything. Almost all my devices download and stream extremely fast. PS4 is the only device in my house that is slow regardless of the time of day. Sony just have **** servers and this is common knowledge.
You like digital - good for you. But if you're going to defend it at least say something believable
Also, you never really own a copy of the game and worryingly if any issues arise with your console and/or account. Storage space is also a concern when they release a console with a small size.
I think it will be a while before we see a shift from physical to digital.
