Do not buy this game. It is very barebones and unfinished. It blows my mind that Capcom thought it was acceptable to release a game in this state and still think its acceptable to charge full price.

No this is a big deal. If you support this it will show people are fine with unfinished games and other companies will do the exact same thing drip feeding content that should have shipped on the disc. This game was in development for at least 4 years yet doesn't have any basic features or modes that its previous game did right 7 damn years ago.

What the hell, what do you get then? How can it ship without these standard modes. Clearly this game has been rushed out of the door then and is obviously not finished.

I believe it was rushed to be released but don't you think they did that to allow the Pro players time to get familiar with the game in time for EVO? I am not happy that they only allow 2 player online lobbies but at least it is playable.

To people who are saying wait to buy until it is finished, what happens when you do that and you try to play online and get destroyed by players who have had the game since launch?

Also I do not recommend buying from 365games. I prordered from them and my copy still hasn't arrived..

It was meant to be a tongue in cheek kind of comment, I worked it out as taking 100 hours of play if you found and finished every game in 3 minutes as well as won them all. Then there will be all those disconnects adding to the time too. Thought that would be clear from my other comments

You have to be insanely good to get something like 2000 wins. There are people that are scary good and play nothing but Street fighter who will destroy most people. I'm an experienced Street fighter player and still get my ass kicked regularly on SF4. People are dreaming thinking Capcom would make it easy to get "free" dlc.
ukbondraider
17 Feb 16 #72
Yes but I am thinking about how to get all six characters. 1 from single player mode, 1 from levelling, 1 from online wins. 3 characters will be just about managable. To get all 6 then the season pass is probably the realistic option.
darkspace100 to ukbondraider
17 Feb 16 #75
Each time you play something the earning rate decreases. So lets say they give you 1000 points for winning a online match. That will then decease to 500 then 200 then they will make it unbearable with something like 50 points for a online win. I don't think people realise they have just bought a full priced free to play game.
darkspace100
17 Feb 16 1 #74
The worst thing is gamers still buy them. They complain on the internet yet don't have any will power and still buy and companies know this and exploit it to their advantage. Same thing happens with microtransactions. Gamers say they hate them yet GTA shark cards and Fifa points are bringing record profits.

You get 50 pts for a win online so you can easily afford a character after 2000 wins if levelling doesn't appeal to you :smirk:

As I said in the second paragraph, it is up to the individual as to whether the game represents value to them in its current state and that decision should always come down to precisely what is offered at this moment in time. For me, it is not enough to be worth paying close to full price for, I will wait and likely get the full game for half this price in a few months time if it turns out to be a good addition to the Street Fighter franchise. I will also be able to monitor how they handle the freemium content which, in itself, might put me off the game. It's not like the average gamer doesn't have an abundance of games to play in the mean time anyway.

Saddens me to say it but the gaming industry has gotten used to releasing games incomplete in some way or other -- Season Passes, DLC, NFC toys and On-disc DLC. The only way to vote against these practices would be if customers didn't buy the games.

Just to add its a really sad state of affairs that Capcom (or the OP I'm not sure) have to confirm that there won't be any DLC locked characters on the disc. I find it silly for feeling bad for companies that make millions. Its a billion dollar industry but companies like Capcom are in financial trouble is because they took advantage of their fans and ruining all of their best franchises such as ruining Resident Evil franchise and turning it into a shooter or abandoning Mega man after years of gamers begging for a new game. They bought it onto themselves.

I can kinda see where Vanderlust is coming from. I'll admit I haven't bought SFV (mainly due to already having several other titles to play through) but have been playing SF on and off since the SF2 arcade days. I've got a lot of pleasure out of them and am thankful that they have consistently produced games that I've enjoyed. I can see why people with this sort of affinity would be relatively open to spending a few extra quid just to help Capcom out. It's a personal thing rather than the norm. I'm sure if a Kickstarter started tomorrow to raise money for Capcom a lot of people would be open to chipping in just due to wanting to help them out. Is this them taking advantage of their fans? Perhaps. That's a different conversation.

Theres also no guarantee that they will even release those future promised content. The game could flop or sell under expectations and they could decide its not worth their effort and people who did buy it would be scammed and left with an unfinished game.

Capcom are not a greedy faceless organisation. Very few businesses are. And yes it is your job to support them if you want them to survive.

Games take massive investment and many don't succeed regardless of years of had work by hundreds of people.

To write game companies off as greedy corporations is silly and puerile.

Time to come back down to earth and leave the SWP sound bites alone.
Vanderlust
17 Feb 16 1 #49
If Capcom are in financial trouble then they need money and you should want this business model to succeed. Dont think of it as getting fleeced for microtransactions, think of it as supporting the devs and studios.

Problem these days is people don't know the value of anything. They pay 4000% markup for household cleaning spray and don't complain but complain when a dying game house is trying to make enough money to avoid bankruptcy.

I like this business model, I don't need all chars. I just need to unlock one or two which I'll do with in game currency, and I'll buy a few costumes with cash to support the game.
darkspace100 to Vanderlust
17 Feb 16 #55
Thats the most stupid thing i have read on this site. Its not our job to support a faceless greedy corporation. If they want money they need to start making full content packed good games. Consumers aren't a charity. i really hope your comment wasn't serious.

17 Feb 16 #54
For many players the game is done and ready for tournament. They found mains and have the online leagues to climb. That's all they want.

I do understand that there are differences types of players though who want different content.

I want solid story modes in FPS for example. I don't really play PvP in those games. Though I get mocked for it, but I enjoy a good FPS story mode, like the old Doom games.

Don't really want to argue over semantics and I certainly wouldn't be so pedantic as to argue over something that required minimal effort as being free or not, but there is a reason that app stores removed the word free when purchasing a freemium game. We both know that all but the most dedicated of players are going to either have to pay money or go without additional characters as the criteria Capcom will put in place to unlock them will be beyond most mortals. As for the arcade mode being free, well they are shipping half a game for full price so technically you've already paid for it.

Given how the industry is I would only ever purchase something if you are happy with it in its current state - so if 16 characters and a few modesis enough get it now. If not waitto seehow it progresses and decide when we have more facts.

Also I need a video of it for proof before any cheese sandwiches

17 Feb 16 #51
you can buy everything with in game currency... or if you want buy with real money
silvercondor
17 Feb 16 #50
Ah, so we're debating the very nature of something being "free"? By your definition, very little would truly be free, since a degree of effort - going somewhere, doing something, meeting some criteria - is invariably required.

I think we can all agree that the six new characters will technically be available without spending any additional money, but it's not yet clear how much effort that'll demand. The story mode, as I understand it, will arrive in summer and not actually cost anything (in-game currency, real money or otherwise).

And of course, I'll take that cheese sandwich.

17 Feb 16 #48
Shame capcom are in financial trouble. Capcom always made the best arcade games and the best earlier console games. I guess the gaming industry just isnt worth being in. Despite being a massive SF fan, Im waiting for the main game to drop to £15 and then I will also buy tne season pass. I dont have lots of free time to play unlike when I was a kid when truanting from school to play SF2 in the arcades was an occasional occurance.
Dichotomy
17 Feb 16 #47
Being free doesn't mean the same thing as costing no money, for instance I could offer you a cheese sandwich if you first agree to run through the streets naked. Just because you didn't pay money doesn't make the sandwich free. Time is a precious commodity we have in limited supply, and I fully expect you to have to spend more of it than most people are willing to commit to unlock even the first 6 characters. So my question stands, I don't know where the sentence implying everything was free after the initial purchase came from.
ukbondraider
16 Feb 16 #33
Everyone keeps talking about all dlc being free with in game currency but how have capcom structured it? Have they structured it so that it requires 1 yr of non stop online play just to get one character dlc? i..e like those andriod/ios games where paying real money for the dlc is the most likely realistic option.
Dichotomy to ukbondraider
17 Feb 16 1 #43
It's hard to tell at this point as the store doesn't even release until March! However, from reading a few articles and asking a few questions I have found it will most likely cost 100000 in in-game 'money' to unlock a character. You will be flooded by this money to begin with, with comleting the minimalist story mode netting you a one off 100000 pts plus about another 60000 for getting levels. Sounds good, but, much like a freemium game, the points start drying up after this with things in place like you get a paltry 50 pts for an online win. So after your first two character unlocks it is likely going to take 100+ hours for each additional character unless you pay money.
darkspace100 to ukbondraider
17 Feb 16 #46
Lets put it this way. Capcom is in deep financial **** right now. They are gonna want to milk the hell out of this game for everything its worth and unless a person is a hardcore Street Fighter player and the condition they win a lot of matches they will get that free dlc but that grind will be as bad as trying to grind for millions in a game like GTA online. Thats why i find it funny how people are happy and even praising Capcom for this approach.
silvercondor
17 Feb 16 #45
As you mentioned above, everything will be available to buy with the in-game currency that's awarded. If you look at the description for the season pass, all it really mentions is the six new characters that'll eventually be added. Technically there's no need to buy anything other than the base game, though - as you also mentioned - it remains to be seen how balanced this'll be. You pretty much answered your own question

they have the main modes that you will only play... training and online. that work brilliantly too. it is also one of the best training modes in any fighting games

there is vs cpu mode, its called story and survival. as a fan of the franchise i am getting what i want but all those extra features that are coming i would only look at once. i dont need them so i can wait because i would rather get the game now instead of waiting until summer for modes i will only play once.

everything is going to be free including new characters. i am not too sure about costumes but i assume they would be free too.

if you dont wanna play the game online then maybe this should not even be a day 1 buy in the first place. i cant imagine anyone being interested in a fighting game to just play against the cpu. that is really boring imo.

as a fan of fighting games i am fine with what is happening but i suppose new players are going to be disappointed. been playing all morning, its amazing imo.

The gameplay is ace. Bit disappointed today for a few reasons, like I can't get games online and yes story mode would be less tedious than sitting in training mode for hours until I get a match. Also had issues with gamepad not working and had to find third party support.

But once it gets going, it's fantastic. The combat is so meaty and aggressive, I'm hooked already. Meta game is mad different to SF4, so don't feel burned out at all.

Just can't get games. Don't understand it, thought loads of people would be playing online tonight.. Going to bed in a huff!

I don't give a rat's ass about Evo or any other excuse for why its okay to release unfinished games. If the content is releasing later then they need to price the game for what is shipped on disc. Also its not only the offline modes that are missing as this game is missing a few multiplayer features including online lobbies and spectator mode.

Most people dont care, they play competitively and they want as much time before evo as possible.

what happened with splatoon and killer instinct is happening to this... this isnt like evolve where they put everything behind a pay wall and squeeze all the money they can from you. this is sort of like a free to play system where they will update the game every month. every update is free from now to the next game. so even the next set of DLC characters are free. there are no microtransactions to be clear.

look, i am not licking capcoms ass. i was shocked too with features missing. but all of those things are coming. there is still so much to do until march with the update and the next dlc character.

if you wanna wait then go for it. capcom needed to get this out now for the pro tour that is starting soon. if youre a fighting game fan then you will be fine until they roll out the next updates

if youre going to complain at least look at the good stuff too. capcom learned form the disaster that was SFXT too but i dont think what is happening with SFV is a big a deal as what people are making out. there is a lot of misinformation going around from internet trolls.

Apparently it has a short story mode where each character faces between 2 and 4 fights, so a lot shorter than it is traditionally. On top of that, apparently you can win each fight by just repeatedly leg sweeping, so guessing the final AI isn't in place just yet. I'm not supporting this game as it seems cut down with freemium options in place to be rolled out in March.
