I went there today. 50% off quite a lot of the perishable goods and toys down to 69p.

I don't like the idea of a poundland taking over as all goods cost an extra 1p and well it all adds up.

Yep, but it ain't posh.
But would you believe you can walk from the top to the bottom of the high street in about 10 minutes which makes all the duplication of shops weird.

Well in the hight street we also have a Boots at the top and bottom, also 2 Superdrugs, 2 McDonald's, 3 Greggs and 2 Sandtanders ( had 4 at one time.)
I am beginning to think they may change the 99p store to the + variety becsuse there's a Bargin Buys just 2 doors away, which is owned by Poundworld.
A clue of my town. It has the longest pier in the world.

I'm intrigued as to how they're going to deal with inflation. Will they be the called one-pound-thirty-eight-land in years to come?

The Thurston's jam that these stores carry is first rate. It's rebaged sodoglu (Turkish) jam, good high fruit content. Will be marked down as perishables always are.

someone should mention here that a store titled 99p should sell all goods for 99p and any difrence in this price is a misguided sale and as such should be reported to trading standards.

only if it's more than 99p (they got away with selling stock over 99p by using the term managers specials, cleared by trading standards)
why would you complain if it's less?

99p stores had better variety of stuff than poundland! So not sure why they sold up to poundland! But poundland are solid and going strong! Hope poundworld dont get bought out otherwise youll have poundland everywhere!

St Albans one, closing too, got a little Lego style helicopter for 69p as all toys 30% off. It was good compared to most fake Lego. It went together nicely, didn't look too naff when built, would have cost about £4 if real Lego. Most toys in there fit for the bin but a few bargains to be had.....

There is this one 99p store that is now called 99p Store +Plus and sells more items that are more than 99p. They said that this is there new name and is going to be just like b&m. But they should change the name as well.

I wonder if it was this store that was infested with rats? Poundland have had to pay thousands in fines because of it!

I live in Exeter and read some time ago that our 99p store was being taken over by Poundland, however, it hasn't happened properly yet. The 99p store has been selling the toys off for 69p since Christmas. However, today I popped in and a lot of the shelves were empty - I've never seen so many gaps on the shelves, so, perhaps the Exeter store is on the verge of actually officially being taken over now.
