Are these the ones that get really hot?

Yes.
Just received the Samsung version and given it a spanking over USB3 in my MacBook Pro, only got slightly warmer than it's surroundings.

Mine don't. Warm up when shoving data on them.

Definitely better to get the Samsung one then? Looking at getting one for an acer aspire switch to increase the memory long term.

Cheers, I think I`ll look out for a Samsung one then as I do like to spank my USB sticks

Too compact! I need something bigger because I lose these so easily.

There's not much point in paying premium for a compact one unless you value the compactness.
These are at their best when you want something unobtrusive left until place a lot of the time. I use one in the car usb slot in the glove box as a long one would take much more room and risk getting broken. Convenient too for a laptop as you can leave it into place when putting it in a bag.
Yes, they get so hot that they can cook my dinner for me then I put one in the fireplace and the heat that it throws out is unmbelievable! Heck, I just took one out of the side of my laptop that has been in for 3 months and managed to hold it by the metal bit without my forefinger and thumb disintegrating. I must have two duds, 'cos they are barely warm.

Why are people moaning about the heat? You don't have to hold it in your hand. Idiots

because you dont want it to burn out? I've had two microsd cards die on me coz of this

You do when you take it out of the port! With it getting that hot I'm more concerned about how long it will last and may be the possibility of data lost!

Kingston duo usb otg which is the usb 3.0 version does not get warm while transferring data/using to playback! It seems to be just these particular sandisk that I have come across to be hot when in use!
