I have 2 of the 64gb version. Decent read speeds. Acceptable write speeds and fairly low profile.
They get hot, but not 'oh my god ow my finger!' hot more just, 'oh, that's kinda hot, I'm not used to a flash drive being hot before so I noticed this was, but it's not causing pain so I probably shouldn't alert the world to my plight' kinda hot which is fine.

My usb 3.0 ultra fit gets really hot, my other cruzer fit (usb 2.0) does not though.

Yes, ( 2 x 64gb ) in a usb 3.0 port on Laptop, but I find it does not get as hot if used in a usb 2.0 port ?

I've read literally hundreds of reviews on these and it seems like they suffer the most in USB3 ports, even if you aren't transferring any data.
I was wanting one to stick in a notebook full time to increase the memory, so with the heat problem it's a no no, the Samsung appears to suffer far less despite a similar design, so that's the one I'd be looking at for full time use (which I think is the main point of mini designs).
That or get an aluminium one like a Transcend, which although it will feel warm when having data transfer, will dissipate the heat better and more quickly.

Are you noticing the heat because you are touching the metal point of the usb when you you remove it and put the cap on? How many times do you touch the metal point of any other (long) usb ?

No, it does genuinely get quite hot through the plastic as well, so much that you might worry about it's longevity but not as much as others who are poking fun at actually burning yourself (you definitely won't) - maybe 40-50C. The other concern is wasted power as the heat must be generated somewhere.
