Great phone very under rated. I'd take this over the S6 for the removable battery, sd card and water proofing. I really enjoyed taking the phone into the dome at Center Parcs and filming the kids swimming under water and around the pool in general.
Fingers crossed the S7 gets the sd card and water proofing back there's rumours both ways at the moment.

after the 14 days cooling off period and then the 30 days notice which takes it close to the pay as you go price

You don't give notice to cancel, so you don't pay for a month's airtime. You cancel within the cooling off period and pay off the device. Done it with the S6 deal. I was billed £1.54 for the couple of days my sim was active for. Had to activate it only to unlock the phone

I feel its more likely to be more: £ 39.99 upfront + £5 x 24 + First month £22.50= £182.49?

Nice deal, S5 is a great phone once you stop most of the bloat.
One thing I find odd is that my S5 is still on 5.0. Was there never a OTA update ?

ah i see sorry about that it was my assumption that if you cancel within the 14 days cooling off period you have to return everything including the phone and the contract is cancelled as if you never entered into it, or at least thats what it says in my o2 terms and conditions, guess they changed it

Yes, I did 2 and they rejected a third. My wife did one and then she too was rejected for a second.

When I asked o2, the credit rating system response was: "Business decision".
It seems they lose money!

29 Jan 161#38
I don't think they rejected you because of issues with your credit rating (which you don't have. You have a credit history but not a universal score), but because they saw you cancelled contracts straight away before this new application, so their business decision as they said.
Common Sense
29 Jan 161#39
Yes, I agree. They said "business reasons" and would not say anything else.
It can only be for cancelling.
My wife had the same issue, so they link addresses. Oh well, managed to get S6 32GB x2 and 1 x 64GB. Now have to sell unlocked unused 64GB to prevent chidren arguing about who gets the 64GB. They both keep 32GB. All phones unlocked.
mr_geese
29 Jan 16#40
Yes, unfortunately they never tell you exactly why they refuse you, but if you don't have issues on your credit file then it can only be that they know they won't make money from you. The airtime part is where they make their money.
Burty
29 Jan 16#41
They do a credit check every time you enter into a contract, do finance, re-mortgage, take out a loan etc or even when you get a car insurance quote. Too many credit checks in a given time period and you are flagged a a possible risk even if you've never missed a payment.
Max-Power
29 Jan 161#42
price has gone up now.
mr_geese
29 Jan 16#43
Yes, but in the case of that person the credit checks would have all been performed by O2 and most likely he was refused not because he was a financial risk but because giving him a contract wouldn't have been profitable, based on his previous behaviour with them (paying off device, then cancelling airtime just after getting the contract)
Ripperoo
29 Jan 16#44
Agree totally with you there.
Bought my refurb S5 over a year ago on O2R for £260 IIRC and cancelled the airtime immediately.
Despite being a 'refurb' it was basically brand new and still looks that way due to keeping it in a PDair leather case.
I recently side-graded to the Note 4 instead of upgrading the S6/S6E due to the SD/Battery concern.
In fact, I'm still using the S5 ATM as want the 'S Charger Cover' for the N4 before I start using it as I guess it will need a top up charge daily and don't want to over use the USB port for charging.
Unfortunately, I cannot find anywhere with the 'S Charger Cover' in stock at a decent price though, so it's probably been discontinued.:disappointed:

I wouldn't bother with charger cover as it doesn't solve anything. Better off buying the battery charger and battery which a better option than a battery cell as you get a 100% charged battery instantly with no cables
fishmaster
29 Jan 16#48

It is on O2 Refresh so your line rental will be £17.50 airtime + £5 device plan which is £22.50 + £39.99 upfront cost, but you have to cancel this contract within 14 days cooling off period and pay off device plan part, which is £5 x 24 = £120. So you will get the device for £39.99 + £120 = £159.99

After going ahead with this deal, got mine collected, then contacted O2 to pay off the handset and cancelled the contract. Some time later I found out that they have charged me for entire month. As you'd expect I gave them a ring to check how long it will take them to refund. At the same time I found one of my old contracts where there was a credit due to me which they have not refunded.
its been 3 days and I can see no signs of a refund from these 2 contracts. Tempted to kick a big fuss abut that. Anyone of you fellow posters complained about that to Ofcom , how do you go about that?

You could get your bak to do a direct debit charge back. The bank will then refund you and chase O2 for the refund from them. Alternatively complain over chat and mention about complaining to the Ombudsman. I think somebody on this thread got £50 compensation when they complained.
