You obviously dont know much. Some refurb, could be classified as a refurb. Just because of a customer return. Even if it was faulty. Your still getting the same level of warranty, plus you have a in depth inspection of the pc. Rather than the parts being bang together and gone to market.
You might want to take that into consideration, before shooting your mouth off.

I bought a Toshiba laptop from Argos/Ebay about 2 years ago (deal posted on HUKD). Apart from a very light scratch on the lid the laptop was in A1 condition.
Good deal.

Hot.
It is the right price for the specs.
It is Refurbished, it is very likely customer returns rather than used.
As it is refurbished, you can feel free to open and try to see how you like it. If you do not like it, you can return it freely within 14 days as the condition is refurbished already.
If it was brand new, you cannot really do that. You will need to find some problems in order to return. Change of mind is not an option. Because once you open it, it is not the same conditions as brand new anymore.

It's called Distance Selling Regulations, you can return new ones withiin 14 days.
Argos and Tesco refurbs are hit and miss, mostly miss.
If you do buy one, do regular backups.

I think they have the i3 4005U, 8GB, 1TB for £310.
No CD DVD drive....doesnt really bother me as I never use discs anymore.

It says manufacturer refurb - I had one of these 3 years ago and all that had happened to it was the box had to be unsealed to install some missing drivers.
Effectively brand new.

I did not read the specs in details.
Yes, it does not have a optical drive.
Then why is it still weight 2.2kg. This model should only weight 2.2kg with optical drive.
And what is the bar thing on the left side of the laptop for? Werid design for me.

at HUKD, you can choose to ignore him by highlight his comment and choose the option.
I did that sometime ago, so I do not even see his comments anymore.

Yes. Still you can only change your mind, if product is at the same conditions as your received. It does not affect your normal statutory rights.
Things bought in shop which you have seen in personal does not fall into distance selling. Most of shop do give normal 30 days return even for purchase in their shop. On the contrary, CeX does not allow you to do that if you purchase from their shop, you can only get voucher even if you return it straightly after purchase in their shops.
Also due to the 14 days distance selling rule, now we have to ask clients to come to our office to sign engagement letters. We cannot send letters to client to sign as before, otherwise clients have 14 days to change their mind.

Is it used/repaired/returned/damaged box etc etc etc? Yes it is, so needs to be stated in title

I had 2 laptops from Argos last year, the condition was shockingly poor, more like 12 month old second hand. They took them back no problem, so it was just a pain managing the couriers really. I won't buy Argos recon again though

I've had a couple of items DOA or damaged from them, also a couple of laptops mint that have failed within a short period which is highly annoying, especially as one had been sourced for a family member.
Several years back I bought a brand new pressure washer instore, the parts were clearly used and the washer bottle was half full with soapy water. When I returned it the girl said it happens a lot as they just resell the returns as new.
I've also had this comfirmed from friend and ex-employee, they said they once accidently sold someone a bag of sand that had been put inside a camera box when returned.
You are allowed to open the product and test it, as long as you take reasonable care, you don't even have to return it in the same packaging.
Not sure why you've mentioned CEX as they only sell items as used.
You sound like you work at a right dodgy company, finding loop holes in consumer rights, Carcraft by any chance?

Hi Huang. You seem like a seasoned user of HUKD. Do you know if there's a way of clicking on a user and viewing all of their comments? Most forums have an option like that but I can't seem to see one on here.

Does you first line apply to both distance selling and purchase from a store? Or only apply to distance selling?
I mentioned CeX, to say shopping in stores are not bound by the distance selling rules. Shops gives 30 days for change of mind at their own discretion, not required by law, for instance, CeX only give vouchers for instore purchases if change of mind. Of course, if product does not give right performance, that is to do with your statutory rights.
Your speculation on my job could not be more wrong. We are ethic professionals sell services, not goods. We do not do distance selling, which is why external consultant suggested us changing the way signing contracts with client to avoid falling into distance selling.

Use advanced search function, and search by member's name will do.
I'm using an Argos refurb Toshiba that I bought off eBay nearly 3 years ago - hasn't missed a beat and was almost brand new (10 hours on the hard drive). It appeared brand new as well - no scratches or marks on it.

I'm talking about DSR, of course it doesn't apply to in store shopping (excluding C&C which is a bit of a grey area).
Legally you have no right to return an item purchased in store if you don't like it.
Your comment was You've already admitted you've altered a business procedure to remove a consumer's rights.
How is that ethical?

Which bit of my reply to you before (copied below) not making sense to you.
"We do not do distance selling, which is why external consultant suggested us changing the way signing contracts with client to avoid falling into distance selling."
Why would we continuing the old way by sending contracts to clients to sign which may fall into grey area of DSR? When we could ask client come to our office seat down sign the contracts face to face to avoid the grey area completely? Why is that unethical? And how could a person with their right mind not understand? You are attacking people unnecessary. If you still do not understand, keep to yourself. I am not interested in your argumental comments.
You first made wrong accusation without asking for the full facts. After I explain what it was, you still continue insult rather than admitting your first comment was not right. What is wrong with business adapting when different rules enacted? And can you actually pin point what exactly was not ethical? You are just a person cannot admit you were wrong, and trying to argue your way out.
Thanks for ruining my day. No reply actually required from you, ever.

The suggested toshiba has now sold out... does anyone think this is a good deal? I need a new laptop for the usual word/excel/web but also for running some simple code in matlab for my studies.
Any help/advice would be fab - I'm on a tight budget so refurb might be the way to go... Thanks
Received mine on Thursday but it has a faulty screen, a horizontal green line appears when the screen is at certain angles.. a dodgy connection somewhere. Has anyone had any dealings with the returns process, is it likely to cost me anything??

I got the similar i3 one but mine has come through missing pixels. The sheet that comes with it says to contact them and they'll arrange a repair or a replacement. Seems Argos use a third party company for their refurbs and it's their number you phone. Only open Mon-Fri so will be phoning then.

A green line would indicate a faulty panel. Under the distance selling stuff the seller will have to take it back at their cost.

Thanks, I went through the returns process via Ebay and was provided a returns label which I just added to the package and dropped it off at my local Collect+ store which was within a mile away so a painless exercise. I've ordered another, but if this one has any issues I will just return it and look for something else. I'm hoping it was a one off as I bought a refurb from Curry's and it has been perfect.

Yes, with those refurbished is just a hit and miss.
Sometime just as new, sometime faulty.
They really need better quality control over those returns.
As for you, just try until you got lucky, no other easy way.
Buy a brand new is easier but will cost more.

I went for the i3 model, which when it arrived it looked perfect... but just found out then there's a problem with the sound - it will only play for 5-10 seconds then cuts out. For example if I'm on youtube it will stop, but if I reload the page, it will play again for 5-10 seconds then stop... I've tried different sources and it always happens. Headphones are fine... I've tried updating and reinstalling the driver and troubleshooting in windows, turning off all enhancement settings but no luck... if anyone has any suggestions that would be great! I updated to windows 10. Thanks.

I bought one of these about a week ago. Box intact, no marks, scratches, in fact looked immaculate. Problem was the big green line of pixels going right across the screen! Professionally refurbished and checked?? I somehow disagree! Needless to saw it has been returned.
Opening post
Can't decide between this one or the AMD A8 version. I won't be gaming on it so feel the i3 processor is better. Any Thoughts?
