This offer is back on again through Severn Trent /Homeserve.
I know Home serve have had problems in the past but I think £6 is worth a gamble.
Their blurb :
If you are a homeowner, you are responsible for the upkeep and repair of the plumbing and drainage system within your home and generally responsible for the repair to the water supply pipe, from your property boundary up to where it enters your home. In some cases this responsibility may be outside the property boundary or shared with neighbouring properties. With such complex systems, if you experienced a problem such as a burst pipe or a blocked drain, it could be expensive to put right. That's why Severn Trent is introducing you to HomeServe to bring you Plumbing & Drainage Plus.
With Plumbing & Drainage Plus, major emergencies such as burst pipes or blocked drains and minor repairs like dripping taps are all taken care of. In a plumbing emergency, there would be no need to search for a plumber, it would take just one call to HomeServe's 24-hour, UK based helpline to arrange assistance from a HomeServe approved plumber. Plus, there would be no repair bill or excess to pay within the claims limit.
This limited offer of £6 for the first year ends on 18th April 2016. Any applications received by HomeServe after this date will be processed at £12 for the first year.

Rubbish... Worth £6.
They sorted my collapsed sewer pipe.
Took them a few visits but it would have cost me a lot more if I didn't have the cover.
I've since cancelled because it was double the price after introductory offer.
I'm thinking of getting the Mrs to sign up to this.
Good deal op.

if u have a water leak ,on the supply pipe, even if it's on your property , the water board will fix it , free of charge , they wont leave water pumping out, or leave u without water, and they will try and reinstate the ground , though things like block paving ect will cost extra . As for the waste, they normal block in the main run , and how many times does that happen? unless u r stupid enough to flush things you shouldn't ...

Not true, we had a letter from servern Trent saying a leak was found on our shared supply pipe with neighbours and we needed to sort it out between us. They couldn't pin point it and we needed to get a plumber in to find it. As we are home owners but neighbours aren't, the leak was actually on there side but shared we was still responsible and if we didn't sort it, they could enforce action against us! We got onto council as they were responsible for that property, but we did Contact our home insurance which would of covered it less the excess, which was £150. So this offer is great, well worth it.

Depends as much on your neighbours and your layout of pipework, mine used to block regularly because of someone further up, but if it blocks your section, what can you do, first time it happened, got the council out, cost twice the annual cost of homeserve, this was after trying a spring and drainage rods, without the pressure equipment, it was possible for me to sort it.
Homeserve from my experience were excellent.

Interesting, I went with HomeCare Boiler Cover 8, and my renewal for year 2 was more than double the first year introductory rate! I know its an introductory price but to more than double it on the second year was disgusting!

No you can't, but when they quote you a price for the next year, it's worth a negotiation as they will come down by a fair amount

Home Serve are soso.
I had them for years with mixed results.
Last call out was for a 3 way valve.the replaced it but drained the system down the wrong way.
This caused the valve that lets overflow water out to the back garden to let the system drain out.
They came back to fix this and damaged wiring and printed circuit board.six visits in all and half the boiler replaced. So good and bad lol.
The Anglian deal I was on just ended so will wait a month and take out this one.

In a process of getting my water pipe leak fixed (water leaking from the base of the main wall, fortunately water going outside the property).
Plumber came start of last week and found out that it's not his job, got another appointment with the specialist engineer this week. Engineer came yesterday and found out that he needed another engineer to help him to sort the leak according to him, it's a big job.
So got another appointment about end of this month (still waiting).

Called home serve out four times in our first year with them ( on the £6 offer) , bad plumbing year in our house, leaking loo waste pipe, followed by a blocked washing machine outlet pipe, a broken part in the loo cistern and a blocked overflow pipe in our kitchen sink. Then to top it off our mains stopcock froze and we had to have it cut out and replaced, ( longer story here, actually our usual plumbers did this for us and homeserve reimbursed us for about 75% of the cost) . Anyway I was going to cancel the second year as the price quoted was a lot sorry can't remember the exact figure. Called them to cancel and they reduced it to £54 for the year. I have taken it for another year as we had so many problems last year. Main issue with them is that they give you a 6 hour window of when they will arrive which wouldn't work for everyone.

If you've gone for this policy in the past (we did a couple of years ago I think) is it okay to go for it again? There is a question have you gone for it before? I'm not sure it was the same policy exactly though.

as for Sewerage, as soon as it hits the manhole out side your property , it's theirs , unless u live at the start of the run ... and seriously unless u flush things u shouldnt .. £6 is a leader , to get u in , then double ,treble the cost , on something they won't have to do anything for . .. I guess u could get them in years to come on miss selling a policy u didn't need ?

Everything Homeserve provide you will already probably be covered for one way or another either via home insurance (or a free insurance bundled with other services such as banking or credit card) or your local water company will have a policy to repair it free of charge, however this is time limited so providing it doesn't go pop again within say 2 years you should be fine. Also drains are usually their problem if its also connected to a neighbouring property dated pre 1947 (i think is the date) or it crosses land belonging to someone else first.

Some water companies will fix a leak on your property, others like Anglian water, simply won't, I had a leak on the supply pipe literally a foot onto my property from the meter! In the end I got my home insurance to fix it (you have to fight a bit) but there was still a £100 excess and then subsequent loading of the next years premium, though I shopped around after.
I assume there is no excess on this? So could be worth it as long as you cancel before first year is up

6 Feb 16#43
There is a limit on the value of the work covered. So you find that for larger jobs, when the contractor comes to do the work, they do part of it and then you are told that there is additional work not covered, or the money is all used up as the work was more involved than expected, and the homeowner has to stump up the extra.
julieallen to Waldolf
6 Feb 16#44
Well it's £4000 so would hae to be a pretty big job to go over that and surely saving £4000 for £6 isn't a bad deal.
For those saying insurance and water board will do everything this does, would love to see you get the water board out to fix a dripping tap and them do it free!

in 24£ only free service is worth more so don't need to make callout for breakdown you can arrange that separately where cheaper. that was the whole concept so i bought as my boiler is already cover elsewhere but not with free service for which i paid over £50 last time alone.
you could also lower your access from £95 to £50 or ever £0 incase you really need to have breakdown callouts in the same policy depends what are your needs and requirements.

I'm coming to the end of our first year of 0.50p/month direct debit. Had them out twice - both times very good, which was surprising given I was aware of their reputation. Came out the same day. Firstly, fixed the toilet flush which wasn't working, which was admittedly a 10 second job! Secondly, however, they came out in the 5-10pm slot (which is great if you work), and in the rain & dark fixed tree root ingress into the drain pipe which was causing water to back up. Were there for over 3 hours and fixed a problem which had been ongoing for a while in the rain, dark, and evening time. Very pleased with that, and well worth £6.
Probably will cancel however, as the website states the cost goes to £96/year if you've made no claims, so it's likely to be higher if there have been call outs. I'd also be interested to know if my partner can take out the policy under her name for the same property, or if the 'first time customer' counts as the property rather than the actual person!

My mum just got her renewal... £186 after three claims (new sink taps provided and fitted, leaky radiator valve fixed, radiator replaced - not strictly covered but I sourced the radiator and they installed it quite happily). Will cancel and take out new policy in my name.
Any homeowner should have this for the trial year --- no brainer vs one callout fee. They'll fix things you wouldn't bother to call a plumber for, and even provide some of the hardware eg taps.)
