Prevents windscreens from misting up and indicates when it needs to be dried.
The reusable dehumidifier with patented indicator.
With traditional car dehumidifiers, you have to guess when it needs to be dried. However, this one has a patented indicator: If the dot changes colour from light blue to light pink, the granule absorption capacity (approx. 130ml /4.6floz) has been reached. After just 6 minutes in the microwave the dehumidifier is ready to use again.
Reusable as often as required. Perfect for caravans, boats, holiday homes ...
Measures 16 x 10.5 x 3cm (6 1⁄3" x 4" x 1 1⁄5")(W x H x D). Weight approx. 300g (10.6 oz). Fits in any glove box. Non-drip. Can also be dried on a radiator overnight.

Crystal cat litter is made from dried silica gel just like this product is I imagine so it can be dried out again on a radiator or on a low temperature in the oven for a while. I keep mine on the dash vents along the windscreen so when I have the heater on it drys them back out again in no time.

Available on eBay where I bought 6xThonar Air Dry pads for just around £2 each ! Fact that Asda were charging £8 for one pad shows how much they were overcharging in the first place. All these pads contain the same type of desiccant crystals that absorbs moisture just as cat litter does. Why would anyone pay £8 for just one small pad?

Could be that the confinement within microwaves retain the steam when heated so crystals do not release all the moisture they contain. Try placing on radiator overnight after microwaving to dry out more thoroughly before re-use. May help.

This item is good if you have a car that is prone to rear window steaming up as many cars do. It does make a very noticeable difference and improvement. If one of these is not quite working on its own, just buy another as two improve things further. At this price it is a steal. My local ASDA was still charging the usual £8 price though for it last night. Does need microwaved once a week though (is something like 6 mins in microwave, it tell you on it).

Same basic principle of colour change when moisture is absorbed. If white then they would be Silica gel granules that have been impregnated with a moisture indicator that gradually changes its colour when it transitions from the anhydrous (dry) state, to the hydrated (wet) state. Common indicators are cobalt(II) chloride and methyl violet. Cobalt (II) chloride is deep blue when dry and pink when wet. It is toxic and carcinogenic, and was reclassified by the European Union in July 2000 as a toxic material.[12] Methyl violet can be formulated to change from orange to green, or orange to colorless. It is also toxic and potentially carcinogenic[citation needed], but is safe enough to have medicinal uses.( Wiki) .... Hope this is not what 's being used !

Thomar Air Dry twin packs contain 6 packs x 250g ( 1.5k total weight) for around £15 on eBay. At the normal Asda retail price of £8 / 300g that would make Asda's price for an equivalent 1.5k of granules an astronomical £40 !!
I have one of these and it will help with excess moisture in the car. However if you expect your screen to be mist free when you start up the car on an icy morning, it won't be.
I've used mine for about a month now and whilst it is good, don't expect miracles!

You dry them on the heater vents IN the car?
So all the moisture in them then evaporates back into the car? And then re-condenses onto the windows when you park up and it cools down again ............
(And soaks back into the sock/litter combo I suppose, but if you dry it OUT of the car, you give it less work to do - as you remove the moisture from the environment - and make it more effective.)

Saves a lot of misting inside the car and therefore the hassle of demisting when the engine is cold, so interior ice and so on, are virtually eliminated.
These Pingi ones can also be microwaved to restore them which many others can't and also have the useful indicator window. It's quite a small product, about the same footprint as your average 7" tablet and about 2" thick.
