Mentioned recently in a few NUS threads in the comments....but this really deserves its own deal!

For its happy meal price....you get around 10 lessons/modules in your chosen field delivered as individual bytesize 1hr live virtual classes, access to recorded sessions for any you miss...an exam to win yourself a NCFE Diploma level 4 qualification...the right to call yourself a student and eat beans on toast

Most will obv take advantage of the fact its a NUS approved edu centre to claim your deserved student cards for £13 posted

Others will relive that feeling of sleeping during lectures, being late to class.....yet somehow its amazingly good value for money and worth achieving the qualification which sounds better then it actually is!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Shaw Academy is not listed under a place of study for NUS extra card scheme. If it is still possible please can kindly advise otherwise the description is incorrect. Thank you.
- joshp

I just bought a Card and it has The Shaw Academy on it so I don't know what you're chatting on.
- garyobargains

Awesome, someone answered my question. You sir are correct and it is in fact listed. I was going by someone else's comment and the fact I couldn't find it since I didn't type "The". Cheers!

Should get 200,000 ppl who think like you and start a pyramid scheme and every week pick one person who gets all the money then we have a few home owners on the market and only out of pocket just under £8 a month, only downside is some ppl waiting along time to get their payout but better than lottery eh :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the reply just got my photography diploma with them wanted to take it further seems to be properly accredited also well worth doing hopefully I get similar offers.

After finishing the photography course, they have a bit of a sales pitch asking you to take out the membership (£29 per month). I didn't take that out, so they offered me a month trial free. I used the month trial to do a couple of other courses, but unfortunately the Advanced photog started at the end of my trial.

I had too many other things on to do it, so plan to take out a membership soon and do advanced photog and also photoshop or lightroom at the same time.

AP takes 2 months, so in theory it costs £60 (but during this time you can do other courses) too.

You'll actually enjoy theses courses... the main foundation diploma in photography is indeed run by shawacademy and its face value is about £379 ..or £349. the courses are via live webinar at certain times during the week, mainly from mo, wed, fri from 7pm-8pm (sometimes go over time as they have q and a , posted from students participation...and if you are not a member then the certificate is 5 euro... sometimes they offer membership at 60% off... I managed to do march 2016 course and received the diploma.- They also have a dedicated facebook page too, so you have to post assignments at the end of each module and there is a test at the end of the module and then there is final exam comprising of 100 questions too.

'Shawacademy' do other course too and if you pay membership per month then it will allow you to add, friends family members onto your account , and they can study and have access to courses of their own choosing, whilst membership is paid and current. (so you could divide the cost between everyone, that you add). For those that are interested, they offer an affiliate program too. So, no doubt some of the links posted here are from affiliate members and hence, receive a commission.

It may help to look for scripting in the subject area, so for example if you're Python scripting for Maya or FreeCAD then you can find specific tutorials for those for example.

interesting, thanks

20 Feb 16 #93
I was considering getting a NUS card after signing up for one of these courses but on the NUS site is asks for the course level. NCFE isn't listed so what are people putting?

Photography isn't listed under Course discipline either.

Is it really as simple as selecting 'other' for both?

Nice find.

If you are interested in this kind of stuff also have a look at Udemy.com. Lots of cheap courses which which are reduced to less than £10 or free every few weeks on the promo offers

When using the direct link to the Shaw Academy, when you click Enrol now, it asks you for a voucher code if using Google Chrome. Swapped to using Firefox and it worked - just in case anyone else is having issues.

Hi, so have signed up and going for a NUS but am stuck already. I start in March and Nutrition course is just one month. Registration is asking for end date of course, so would my NUS card be invalid after just a month?

I put March 16 to Feb 17. I don't think they will question it bearing in mind it's a 12 month card

Great when they where £1.99 and instead of a coke you ask "Can I have a coffee but can you leave the toy & box as dont want them". I am sure they hear what you ask but still give you the toy and box on purpose because you are a cheap skate and want to embarrass you in front of all the kids. Then you feel weird looking for a suitable child to give the toy too without looking like some kind of pedo.
Now that it is £2.49 you arent bothered about the toy as you want your monies worth and they now charge extra for the coffee. To be honest since the last price hike I avoid the place, too expensive now.

What are NCFE qualifications equivalent too? Last thing I want to do be doing is adding a made up qualification to my CV!
GamingDevil to Opheliac
19 Feb 16 #10
Level 2 would be equivalent to GCSEs and level 3 to A-level. Level 4 would be high diploma (or something like that).

NCFE is a recognised qualification.

The FAQ says this:

Does anyone know what it means by members? Members of what?

It also says
I assume the £1.99 doesn't include the cost of the Diploma being sent to you?

Has anyone done one of these courses before? Are they any good?
