Windows phone hardware Is fab, software is really bad. Just wasted another hour of my life trying to get my 640's mobile tethering to work. It now goes off as soon as the screen goes to sleep. Apparently it was in the last update. I have reached my end with Windows phones, (must have had 10 or more) but to be honest, so has Microsoft according to the rumours. Save your money, there must be better phones out there.

Great price.
I make about 10 to 20 minutes of calls a day and get 14 days between charges.

its a great phone for the price, if I dnt rely on apps so much then get it.
I was using galaxy s3 and I can say the 640 is a better phone especially with the battery life.

Just tried a 640 sent from Microsoft, phone itself is quality, really liked it but, and this is a bit but, if you like your apps then it's a letdown which is a real shame. For example Instagram is like taking a trip back 2 years, Google photos non existent.

Just depends on how many apps you want and need. Those that do not exist I either just go online to their site on the phone or wait until I get home and use my PC. I don't do games.

True so check the app store unless your app needs are basic.

Don't have any problems with mine, and I am not addicted to apps.

Unfortunately many official apps are poor quality on the Windows platform, although the situation has improved where devs have updated there apps for Windows 10.
For those that haven't you have to look for superior third party alternatives. For example: 6tag is the most feature rich instagram client, Tubecast or Metrotube are excellent YouTube replacements.

Those "Windows Phone Is Dead" articles are pure click-bait. Technically they are true as the software is now named "Windows 10 Mobile", not "Windows Phone".
Also, just because you are having issues with tethering, it doesn't mean that it's a universal problem on Windows. On the odd occasion that I have used tethering on my 830 it has worked perfectly.

Excellent price for a decent device. I'm moving away from Windows phone after 5 years due to the software situation. Updates have been virtually nonexistent for the last 18 months, and the WP10 update is still not fully ready.

Depends how many apos you are using. I jest switched from Windows to android an tbh i only use the apos i used tovuse on Windows - -Here navigation, an ebook reader with tts feature, couple oF instant messanger apps, white noise generator, and a web browser. The only APP I now use that wasnt able to use on Windows is kodi.

Not cheapest its ever been - the 640 XL was £110 at vodafone some months back.
650 XL out in a month innit, probably around this price
Until windows has three in touch, kodi, popcorn time, moonlight, torque, a proper version of waze, and a few games I play I still can't ditch Android

The phone has a few problems, trying to go back out/home out of apps often requires multiple touches (drove me insane) really needs a physical home button rather than letting you question yourself if you pressed it 3-5 times before it does anything, also the brightness level needs setting to manual as it fluctuates a lot and it can leave you thinking something is loading/waiting and its just the brightness. 640's also share the same problem as the XL's. If an android emulator is made down the line (microsoft has mentioned it but it could be a loooong wait) the apps wont be a problem. the phone is nice but the few minor problems spoiled it for me.

Never had those issues when I was using either the 640 or 640XL.
Didn't your software keys vibrate upon a keypress?
Where did you read that the 640 series share an issue with auto brightness? Also, why did the brightness level make you think that something was loading? Very odd.
I would suggest that there was an issue with your specific hardware.

I think they are gradually killing off Windows Phone now (from what I have read) as it still has an extremely small market share especially in the US. It's a shame though because I happen to think that it is a superior OS to Android (I have never used an iPhone so I wouldn't know), and sadly Nokia got bought out and ruined in the process. I had and still have a Lumia 710, though a Moto G replaced it. I guess there will be some amazing Windows Phone bargains over the next year or two. Hot deal.

We (staff of around 2000) have been issued these at work. They are universally acclaimed, everyone is chuffed with how much easier it is to do their job on the go. Plus battery life is simply phenomenal. If I wasn't using a 735 as my personal phone I'd have one of these.

@chancooluk I have had a 640xl (sent back due to the problems) and I currently have a 640 which has the same problems, some youtube videos (on the windows 10 firmware upgrade on the 640xl show the guy pressing the back/home button random multiple times before it does anything). I also had a problem with how many multiple touch points the 640 xl could recognise despite what reviews have said. I've had a cheap tablet (think air pad sub £40) that recognises touch better than my 640's have :disappointed: might be my fingers? :P

Ha, just tried to log to a on 640 and won't let me. A good of regular glitches that windows phone users experience everyday. I only use mine on holidays as it has 2 sims. No good without a hotspot though. This OS killed Nokia and it is killing Microsoft. I give another 12 to 18 months. Shame as I said, the hardware is great but the user experience is poor. If they had the software bit right, this platform would be flying now. Proof is in the pudding.

Microsoft software didn't kill Nokia, Nokia did, they languished for too long using Symbian to the point where they had no other option but to accept cash from another company. Microsoft stepped in and saved them, as long as they took on Windows as their platform. Nokia's phone business was never going to last either way.
Please explain how you think that Windows is killing Microsoft? I'm pretty sure it still makes them a lot of money.

Some things in Microsoft are being funded as loss leaders, the phone arm is one of them. Their idea of a single software running across many different products may be the key to their continued success, after all 75% of internet connected devices now do not use Windows. This is something that is forcing them to diversify on different platforms. It is a marketing strategy and this is why the rumours are rife that they will quietly let the phone arm go. I, (and many in the industry) were pleased to see Microsoft on stage at the iPad Pro launch. They are pushing Office onto as many platforms as possible as they realise they has lost a lot of ground in the Windows marketplace. I liked WP 8 & 8.1 but I bought into this platform as an optimist, the reality is that it has got worse, not better. I have never sworn so much at a phone since the very early days of android on a seriously crappy Samsung. As I said, great hardware let down by poor software.

Maybe you need to reset or change your phone. I've been using Windows phone since the very beginning when I hacked it onto an HTC HD2 and haven't looked back. No OS is perfect but I'm far happier with Windows than I ever was with Android, and I wouldn't touch an Apple product with yours.....

Yes it is that good.
I have wifi and location turned off unless i need it.
On stand by with 10/20 mins of calls a day it uses 5/6% battery a day.
Ive just checked my phone and it was last charged 5 days 12 h ago and i have 77% battery left.
So using 4.2% a day. After making 1h and 7 mins of calls in total.
