I'm personally after a gaming laptop and just found the previous Medion Gaming Laptop post by a HUKD member, but when clicking the link I found the page no longer existed... Gutted. Thought I'd have a browse of the website anyway and found a 17" laptop with 32 Gb RAM, 128Gb SSD, 1TB HDD & the GTX970M for £799. It's got Windows 8.1, but I'll just be upgrading to 10.

Wouldnt ever touch medion laptops again tbh. They're made so poorly and break so easily. The customer support is just rude germans and when the products come back from getting 'serviced' they're still rubbish. Never again.

Just a quick note for those who see the word Medion and instantly think Aldi / Liddle cheap pos. This is not the case here. This is actually an MSI barebones gaming laptop that has been re-branded as a Medion. Think of it as a a Skoda to a VW, its the same thing underneath but a fraction of the price.

Best laptop I have bought heavy use since bought. I work as a contract developer for a pentesting company. I choose this as my back up to my desktop. I rarely use my deskyop now, I have used asus n55sf laptop motherboard died, lenovo was a bag of ****, dell xps was good but dated, apple mac motherboard died just after warranty, lost a contract over term never go near them again

Don't be stupid. You've clearly never carried around a laptop with you during the day for any length of time. 4kg. 17". Huge power brick. Big laptop case. That's 6kg of unncessary weight you're lugging around from one place to the next, onto trains, off trains, into meetings, up and down stairs, escalators etc.

I'd consider this rather more portable than a desktop regardless of it's weight (within reason). As said, yeah, there's loads of places a thin+crap laptop or a full desktop are markedly preferable. You won't get this spec in something this portable for this sort of price.
4kg is still... kinda light tbh. Sure, everyone's used to ultrabooks now (which are actually a sub-section of laptops). If you're REALLY that "on the go" that you don't even have a table to stick it on and couldn't possibly have more than a (man) purse on you it's a little big but... come on.
Picard123

4kg though and that's not including the huge power brick.
Given it's size and weight, for this price, I'd rather buy a desktop.
mercutio98uk

Agreed on the memory but for the money, you'll not find a better spec otherwise (now the 980m deal from medion also using a rebadged MSI is expired).
Not everyone cares for something 1.5cm thick with a relatively poor spec (or something thin with the same spec for about twice the price). This ticks plenty of boxes. I have an (aging) MSI GX660R that uses pretty much the same chassis. There's a wee bit of flex, sure, but it's otherwise survived about 5 years of service and is still going strong (3 drink spillages by the wife on it and shes all over the house with it so it's been lugged around a fair bit with slips and less than perfect handling. It's had a new battery as good battery management is rather an afterthought and an SSD upgrade but otherwise as we bought it).

32gb of ram is nogood because the game cannot utilise it , the profile of the laptop is because this is a behemoth of a GFX to put in one and the heat needs to be exhausted out or it will fry itself in pretty short order, my old gaming laptop had no end of problems and blew 3 GFX cards in its lifetime ,and I didnt push it much at all . HEAT KILLS

Over 35% extra power. Prices for these GPU's can be up to £600-700 for the 980m and possibly 400-500 for the 970m
Anyway, do not expect miracles, I place the 970m same power or slightly more than the much older gtx480 and the 980m same as a gtx680 and still very but very good for a laptop Tempted (as an extravagance and for my Wifi main use) but thinking that I can build a much more powerful sli gtx970 for the same price(899) or nearly.

It doesn't have an IPS panel, so hardly 'blinding spec'. 32gb RAM is also pretty redundant. They should have saved the money spent on RAM and provided a better panel instead.
My hardback Oxford English Dictionary is also thinner than this Medion!
In comparison, look at the Origin Evo15-S - 1.9kg yet i7-6700HQ, GTX 970M, IPS, M2 SATA, 4k screen options etc

I'm to the point, no messing. Also quite helpful when I put my mind to it.
Anyway there's not really a debate here, my comment was 32GB isn't useful for gaming, this laptop is quite obviously aimed at gaming so I don't think I was being a pendant, I could argue you were in your reply. If you don't like my posts that's none of my business, I suggest you just ignore me if you don't like what I say. I also apologise when I'm wrong, so no apology required here.

Oh yeah, for sure' however if you're like me, I work from home, visit (sometimes) developer clients, play games on the move and the like. A powerful gaming laptop's ideal, it allows me to do all of my usual office chores and play the really early builds I get given by clients to mooch over - which are generally incredibly inefficient in terms of optimisation:)
