this usually hovers around £149 so thought this was a good deal. Best price it has been for a long time! Hope this helps other parents and parents to be!

Good price if you decide this is the base you need, but unless you particularly want to be restricted to just one (forward facing) group1 seat, then save yourself £20+ and get the EasyFix base instead.

I was fairly set on getting just the easy fix one, but the re-sale value of this one is around £80-ish pounds so it's worth it for that

After 1 year old you don't tend to take the seats out anyway so might as well get the EasyFix

I've got two of these, one in each car. They're very very good and the Pebble seat that goes with it is great too. The latest thing now is to try and keep kids rear facing until they're 4 or something, which this base won't allow for (for that you'll need the 2way fix which costs more as do the seats, ~£190 for base & £190 for the seat). Personally I'm unsure which is safer, forward or rear facing. Ideally you want a rearward facing seat for frontal impact and a forward facing seat for rearward impacts. On that basis I just drive safely when I've got my little one in the back seat and ensure that when going on the motorway that our far larger car is used rather than the runabout - anyone who's seen what a lorry does to a supermini will understand why!
The biggest thing with these bases is that they're isofix locked in, and that means they're more secure than using a seatbelt looped round and you needn't worry about trying to get the belt to fit round the seat etc. As my kiddie was a number of weeks early I got a cheap Mamas&Papas car seat to bring him home in, it was one where the seat belt looped round it - the rear sear belts in my 3 series weren't long enough to fit round it...which was nice ! I ended up using a different car to shuttle him home in.

No, you'd need the easyfix base.

This is great when you need to lift your little one out in the seat, we had two of these for our pebble seat but when she outgrew that we switched to the Maxi Cosi Axiss swivel seat that fits in the car using the seatbelts and does not need a base.
It rotates to the side so you can belt your toddler in without having to twist and hurt your back. Now we have one for each car and did not bother getting the pearl. Recommend it 100% and you can pick them up on ebay used for a fraction of their RRP.

No you'll need a new car!

I don't think you can use any bases if your car isn't compatible, you just have to strap in the car seat with seat belts.

No you need the easy fix base. But worth checking to see if you can get isofix installed in the car. Depending on make model and age it may have the points for the brackets to be fitted.

This will be getting cleared through because of the new base they have out which allows rear facing for longer, as per new EU rules.

Technically it's new-ish recommendations not a rule. It has been around since 2012 but these are still quite popular, maybe because the 2 way fix is £190 and never budges on price! (I have twins on the way and spending that kind of money twice is a bit crazy)

The old rules are still allowable until 2018 though, as they allow for overlap from weight style rules to length style rules.
We have this base as it is convenient for both cars that have ISOFIX in our house.

Not necessarily, I retro - fitted isofix to our Focus with a bracket directly from Ford. Also retro - fitted passenger airbag switch (though that's not really a DIY jobs car software update required).

I bought one second hand and its unlocking lever on one side is jammed. Seems a common fault as per Google. always thought these are never faulty as we don't take them out frequently from car.
How much does it cost for Maxi Engg to come and resolve it (I.e take it out so that I can bin it) ? any idea ??..

Would never buy a second hand seat or base - you never know if it's been damaged or involved in an accident. Also, belted seats are just as safe as isofix fitted, providing they are fitted correctly. We have this base, used with cabriofix and now Pearl. TBH I prefer the (belted) Joie stages seat in the other car to the Pearl. The new i-size law means babies should be rear facing (proven safer) until 15 months, so if I was getting for a new baby I'd look at the new 2way model.

Just to echo one of the above comments, this is probably only worth it if you've got your heart set on the Pebble rather than the Cabriofix (and intend to buy Maxi Cosi's next stage seat).
I ended up with the Easyfix 2 (Isofix version) which was a godsend in my R56 Mini (3 door) with Cabriofix.
We got a Recaro Young Expert as her next seat so didn't bother with Isofix, felt it was money saved over the Familyfix version as I wasn't intending on buying the next stage seat.
(Should add we ended up moving up to a Countryman as I finally gave up on owning 3 door cars!)
