There is unlikely to be much of a connection between raising the wages and the changes in their promotions strategy.
The whole point of things like half price weekend deals was to get people in store and trying it (and then hopefully get them in the habit of going there). Since their growth is double-digit now and word of mouth and positive press is now getting people through the door for next to nothing, there is no longer any need for them to run loss leaders.
Personally I only ever visited when they had a good half price deal or sports gear. The shorter queues elsewhere were worth the (literally in my case) few pennies I would save queuing at Lidl.

Would disagree espcially about lidl their offers have gone crap since they made some changes at the begging of this year. Before as well as having half price weekends they also had quiet a few offers on different products throughout the week as used to be shown on the this weeks offers section which used to be quiet full on their website now it only lists 4 products. Overall we are getting a worse deal a lot of the meat in the pick of the week offers was included in the half price weekend promotions last year at a much cheaper price than these current offers. I agree with one of the other commenters that the cost of providing an increased wage for staff has had a negative effect on the prices they charge in store. It's starting to feel like just any other supermarket now.

No half price weekend offers / no £5 off £40 spend each month and even the the manager was fighting with a local smak head in the store last time I went in one of their shops. Not worth it any more; I will be back to Tescos or Sainsburys and get get decent customer service and reward points. Ok whilst they did the deals but falling flat on their Lederhosens now.....Aufiedersein Lidl!

Definitely not worth it anymore and no I've never been a smackhead.

True but I have never witnessed any staff in either Sainsburys or Tescos hollering at the top of their voices and abusing anyone like this.

I've worked in Sainsburys and M & S in the past and seen smack heads yelled at by staff at both. When you work in retail for years dealing with drug addicts who try to steal from your store multiple times everyday and are really risky to apprehend sometimes the stress gets to you - try seeing both sides of the situation.

According to a student pal of number 1 son's who works there P/T, they are chopping and changing their offers to try and 'spread the savings' over a wider range of products and attract different (?) shoppers

still the product quality is way above the ones sold in tesco/asda as most of their food is imported from germany/other countries! The uk made produce is just terrible terrible stuff most of the time...

Dropping the half price weekend offers seems like a mistake to me. We would make a special trip to pick up those offers - and would do the rest of our shopping whilst there. Without the incentive of the offers, we are far less likely to shop there.

Have to agree with the earlier comment, half price weekends used to get me in the door, then do rest of my weekly shop there. Noticed the quality of the veg has gone downhill too lately. Tried to buy gingernut biscuits the other day to be told they had been discontinued, which the shop assistant said was crazy as one of their best sellers!

My OH will be gutted they've stopped the ginger biccies, they're his favouite. He reckons they're less sweet than others. Must agree with other posters, it was the weekend offers got me through the door....if you shop at the right time, the queues aren't any worse than other S'markets. But quality is very variable. There are 2 in Edinburgh that I use, one at Haymarket where the quality is generally really good and the other when I'm working at Wester Hailes where you have to sort through the veg particularly as it is not well presented and sometimes eg in a pack of oranges 1 or 2 may be 'off'. Generally, I find the meat is reasonable quality (esp the pork) but I wouldn't touch any Braemoor products with a bargepole.
