4 hours battery life, just about enough for a daily YP run.

Yeah it's fine for general usage, the CPU is a bit on the crap side, but it works alright on Windows 10. Laptops with this spec were £179 in 2014 so it's not a big saving on what was already around 18 months ago. Fine for £159 anyway.
Doesn't look too bad sis just don't be tempted to buy a Toshiba c50d off there,i have one it's a shockingly bad laptop.

Don't be tempted to buy any Toshiba laptop, truly shocking build/performance quality, had one send one back 4 times, finally got my money back, but the hassle was horrendous.
Why? These Celeron processors are great for basic work.

I guess our definitions of the word great must vary considerably.
I'd say it's 50% slower than the bare minimum I'd expect out of any basic laptop. When the CPU is your bottleneck over a HDD you know you've got a lemon.

Disagree, the basic models are poor (especially c50) but they have plenty of high quality laptops. My wife is still happy with her 7 years old satellite pro (upgraded the CPU, ram and HDD to ssd drive), my tecra is going strong after few years of heavy use.

Haven't bought a laptop for a while but looking for a 'cheapie' for my eldest who starts 'big school' in September, does anyone know what this one is like for an extra £30??
CPU is a lot stronger, on par with a i3 4030U. More than twice powerful than this N2840.
A lot more suitable.
However, personally I do not like HP consumer laptop, do not think they are good quality.

I was warned by my son the Toshiba processor was poor but I thought any laptop would be able to run the internet fine! Wrong as the processor was that poor the McAfee antivirus was using 50% of the CPU.Try to get the most processor power for the money you can.Me I'm buying a chromebook lol.

the N2840 is quite weak. A 1/3 power of an i3 U version today. Less than 2/3 power of my 7 years old spare duo core.
I would not advise anyone buy this laptop, even for basic tasks.
If you can put down £160 for a refurbished laptop this weak, you would be better pay £190 for i3 + 4GB RAM refurbished, or £210 for i3 + 8GB RAM refurbished? They are a lot more suitable.
