Lovely healthy looking Hyacinth bulbs in pot, just starting to flower, lots in store as plant of the week. Purchased at Chelmsford branch, once they have flowered can be put in garden to flower again next year.

I bought these before Xmas, a couple of them grew REALLY tall then fell over, is there anything I could have done to stop that? I had them on my window sill.

No expert , but hyacinths like light but not direct sunlight, so maybe they needed to be away from the window? Sure someone who knows will give you a better answer

Lots of factors could make them too tall....
-Too many nutrients could make them shoot up.
-To little light, then they grow tall to search out the light; they do like bright but indirect light
- Too warm; if they are taken from the supermarkets & garden centres straight into a warm room they can bolt.... it's best to acclimatise them slowly.... a cool room at first, then into slightly warmer conditions. but they don't like really warm.

You sure it wasn't an amaryllis? I'm not 100% sure but I think hyacinths tend to stay small. Otherwise, just a bit more sun to keep them compact

Hope that if l look after these the right way that they will be in full bloom for Mother's Day.

Did they look nice? These ones had three bulbs with healthy looking flowers in bud in a medium sized pot with decorative moss around the top.

Hyacinths do tend to fall over if they grow tall and top heavy. Pop a stake into the compost beside it, taking care not to pierce the bulb, then secure the stalk loosely to it.

I bought a pot of these on Satuday, they were reduced to 50p. They grew about 4 inches overnight! Now about 10 ins tall. One thing I have noticed is that they're is no scent. Usually hyancinths fill the room with their scent but not these.

They don't flower as well as the first time. hyacinths grow to 35cm so you need support.

Must be doing something wrong with mine, don't think I've ever got them to grow that tall. Mind you I am a bit of a lazy Gardner, don't lift bulbs and store etc, just hope for the best , which might explain it.

So after saying last week mine had never reached 35cm tall, I measured them today and they have reached that exact height! Followed the advice to put a support in with them which has helped , feel like a competent indoor bulb grower now

That would make me happy actually , although I love the look of these I'm not so keen on a really strong scent. Total bargain at 50p though, especially for new stock.

P.s. Growing that much overnight is unusual for a bulb, think you may have purchased a triffid by mistake
