Was looking for a decent laptop and Curry's is currently having this with £200 off. Looks like a good machine at a reasonable price.

A family member has just bought this from pc world through my recommendation when scowering the internet. Does this mean it'll most likely die soon? I'm pretty impressed by the speed of it and was tempted to get one myself. Maybe I shouldn't now?

Lenovo Z50 is not a good model. The FHD is a TN panel, and a bad TN panel. Do not consider its FHD screen worth a lot extra. I would not recommend this model. It was £250 last year with i3 + SSD, £330 with i5 at Christmas.

You can buy the same laptop for £300 on ebay. Grade-A refurb (like new) here:
On THIS laptop now! Bought a couple of weeks ago for same price but with free F1 2015 download - girlfriend's cousin works as a Network Manager at a secondary academy and states that, for this price "It's the best value available at the moment" - though the major downfall of this laptop is the hard drive - slow at times so would recommend getting an SSD but does the job fine for me as I would rather the 2TB space. Needed one to replace my ageing 5 year old Samsung Windows 7.
Oh, worth noting, Curry's are fobbing you off saying it's on "sale" - was £399 6 months ago when it first came out.

I am not impressed. The "i5" CPU is not at all an i5 class CPU, but an i5-U CPU, designed for tablets and ultra-portables (which this isn't). It struggles to reach even the computing power of a "Pentium" desktop CPU, or an i3-M.
And a laptop without an SSD is just a pain. 2TB or not, if it takes minutes to boot, that is no fun.
Add the low screen resolution, and you have a mediocre laptop built to a price point.

Why do so many laptops only have a 5400rpm hard drive? I have seen top of the range laptops elsewhere, and then they stick a slow 5400 hard drive in it. Any laptop is only as fast as the slowest component. They should put a 7200rpm hard drive in, or they could put in SSD's considering SSD's are better for anything that is mobile.
ah yeah, i hadn't noticed the 650 was that price after trade in. thought it was a bit cheap!

HP Probook have been at around £300 for quite some months now, with i5 or A10.
And some models also qualify for cashback and trade-up cashback.
HP consumer laptops with i5 and non-FHD screen and cost £300 or £400 are just simply not good enough compare to Probook deals. Why pay the same or more for less!

I was surprise to see Probook 650 only cost £380. Then I noticed it was after £200 cashback. Still very good price. Our office use Probook 650.

Good post, I agree with you completely.
For a lower specs, you pay about £300, but you get a good quality business laptop instead a HP consumer laptop which a lot people reported HP consumer laptops do not last.
And 4GB RAM extra, increase from 500GB to 2TB are not worth £100 extra. Also Probook use 500GB WD black, whereas HP Pavilion most likely use cheaper hard drive.
if you can wait a week, i've got a 450 G2 arriving tomorrow with the m.2 due friday/saturday. so will report back if you need me to to let you know it's deffo do-able
according to one review here on amazon they have a 450 G2 and all went well, you just need to disable fastboot in bios. he/she also provides before and after benchmarks, how ever the ZTC one i linked to earlier is a bit cheaper and some say faster. (or, if you want the transcend, it's on lambdatek for £48.07 here
good luck
edit: hmm, no m.2 slot is listed in the specs sheet for the 455 G3. but is for the 450 G2. sorry to have hijacked the thread, over and out!

Posted at least three times since advertised on tv for Christmas.
Not a bad price and spec but PC world/Currys are totally crap for customer service.
Any repairs needed won`t get done because they`ll say --------------------- water damage, according to many posts on their facebook page.
Comment remember watching a consumer program about that. Pc world claiming water damage, on a laptop. Something to do with residue marks on the pcb. I think it turned out to be condensation of the heat of the solder or something

personally i'd definitely go for the HP Probook 450/455 (455 is amd) G2 or G3 from ebuyer, laptops direct, or save on laptops. might be a lower spec, but the build quality will be much better - it's a business laptop, rather than consumer - and should last a whole lot longer. would you be doing anything intensive that really requires more than 4GB of ram? also, for speed you can install a m.2 2242 ssd for the operating system (128GB is about £47 from amazon or lambda.tek) and that would leave the hdd for data only. not sure if doing this would invalidate your warranty though, you'd have to check with hp. but for a speed boost IMO it's the way to go
