Received an email this morning from Samsung stating Paypal will be offering 0% finance on products bought from the Samsung online shop this coming Tuesday 1st March for one day only!

Could be benefitial to those who want to get the new Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, but don't fancy paying so much upfront in one go.

For example:
Samsung Galaxy S7 with free Gear VR = £569
Paypal payments over 24 months @ 0% = £23.71 per month.

Update - I posted a screenshot of the email I received in the comments below.

No 24 months deal
6 or 12 months only

Yes no problem I do it myself all the time as I move around a lot. If you own an S7, S8 will be a waste of money, so don't bother just to keep ahead of the Apple crowd, you'll almost be standing still.

What you state is libellous if you are informed on the subject (possibly even if you are not) and claptrap at the least if you aren't, it's not up for debate!

I have moved from Note 4 to S7 Edge. initial impressions are very good. Screen sharper/ faster/ easier to hold in the hand/ camera was one of the best on the Note 4 but this is even better, more options. Overall a good upgrade though I purchased mine with PayPal, only thing I'll miss is the S Pen. Keeping one eye on the Note 6 developments.

Covers all of screen and edges. Tricky to apply as it's a very thin film when removing the protective backing.Took around an hour to remove all the bubbles!

still playing around with my edge (having not owned a Samsung for a very long time, can you switch on individual notifications for email and whats up but leave them off for facebook and twitter etc. Also is there an option of switching things off running in the background. mines not doing too bad on the battery life at the moment and im using it a lot as you do with a new phone. 76% phone was off the charger at 7am this morning, emails, facebook twitter, browsing. So glad I jumped from the lumia 950.

Looks impressive in low light situations.

When I tested one out in a shop the note 4 seemed far better when cropping in and the s7 edge ended up looking a mess.

I've decided to order an s7 edge and will give the camera a more detailed test in the conditions I'm most likely to use it in and then decide if it's worth keeping u till the note 6 comes out,if it's not then I think I may just go for a s6 edge plus as that still retains the 16:9 ratio at 16mp but is slightly better camera than the note 4.

The other thing I'm undecided about is going from 5.7 inch to 5.5 inch curved

I have both of them now and here's my take on the camera:
Advantages of the S7
* Better in low light
* Better optical stabilization
* Fastest auto focus available

In daylight, the pics from both phones have very similar quality.

Got the charger from Amazon but went through Flubit to get the price down to £8.80. It has great reviews and I might get another one for the office.

Spigen case (£2.50) + DN Tech screen protector (£3.49 for 2). Screen protector has bubbles and catches on the case so might just go without it. Also got a wireless charger for £8.80, takes 3 hours to fully charge the phone from zero. Great for overnight charging.

Samsung say the camera issue is a fault and for to order another and they will collect this one. Not happy with that as then won't get the PayPal 0% option so told them they need to exchange.

Edit - Did factory reset and the camera now works and waiting for my data to transfer back over.

But do you think the error will come back
raf_shc
9 Mar 16 1 #1284
I did have a note 4 but found it too big to use a daily driver so went back to the iPhone 6s. However, on comparison the S7 does perform better in low light conditions but I feel it slightly over processes the photos. Could be the dual pixel technology they (samsung) are talking about but in normal daylight conditions the camera is on par, if not better than then note 4.

If upgrading to the S7 edge you will lose the stylus obviously but you will gain better speed, battery and most importantly design\wow factor!

Hope that helps.

I'll post some photos later, I think it looks good. Has only been on a day though.

Just checked my SD with that app, your're right much slower speeds than claimed but tbh it's fine for me as I only store music and movies on my SD

9 Mar 16 1 #1281
Delboyd is correct, it's the A1 SD app. Testing the card on a PC gives slower results. I'm looking for a bigger card that does at least 50mb/s write speed for 4K recording and most 128GB cards have much slower write speeds than what they say in the box.

anyone looking for a screen protector for the s7 edge can give up...... got mine today in the box, looks like the invisible shield type where it will turn yellow after time, no matter how hard you try you get bubbles, and is just spoilt the whole nice screen on top of that as soon as you put in a case all corner start to come off! So frustrating so now i will run the phone naked!

got my Edge delivered today, really impressed coming from the lumia 950, very fast phone. Last Samsung was a S3 mini then a S4 mini for a time. Loving it so far, and the app gap, well Its there between windows and android. Everything can be done on windows but by third party apps, its amuch better experience. Got the S7 coming tomorrow for my missus. Me and a work colleague have had a 'phone off' with his iphone 6 and the Edge did really well if not a little bit better. although everyone said it was too big. I actually like the size of it and the screen is amazing.

So I'm very impressed coming from an S6

Definitely faster it just feels snappier. Don't get me wrong I've never felt the S6 has been slow but man the S7 is quick I haven't had to wait for anything to load and crucially it's the first device that I have been able to use when it's downloading apps and syncing accounts for the first time.

Camera is massively improved in low light but I think it's a more marginal improvement than a massive improvement that we've seen before.

SD CARD SLOT! This deserves its own section but it's a game changer for me and the main reason I've upgraded no more worrying about space.

Gear VR. Holy **** it's good watching Netflix is downright incredible with a screen that size its a complete game changer for me. I've also watched part of a film in the oculus movie app and I genuinely felt as if I was in the cinema. I can't describe how good it is and honestly for the people selling there's you are missing out. Definitely at least try it.

Any questions ask but it's definitely another knockout for Samsung and the best Galaxy yet!

Because most Parcel Force depots are usually located in industrial estates in the middle of nowhere, all Parcel Force non deliveries get taken back to the Post Office nearest to your post code.
Note this is the Post Office NOT the Royal Mail Depot.
Parcel Force card is white, Royal Mail's is red.
I am a postie and almost every day, someone will turn up at my office with a Parcel Force card, saying is this not the Post Office.

Great phone. Got the edge variant in gold. Feels as fast, if not faster than my iPhone 6s. Battery life seems to be much better than the s6 edge I owned previously. Does definitely feel thinner than the 6s even though on paper it is 1mm thicker. Using it with my gear s2 classic. So far I'm very happy with the purchase. Everything from the packaging, design of phone and the UI feels very premium

It's still a great performer nonetheless. Iphones do better on benchmarks because of the low resolution screen and iOS. The SD820 version of the s7 is not available in the UK so no go. It will play everything you throw at it and benchmarks are not everything. I got it mainly for the camera performance and waterproofing. The G5 has SD820 but I'm not a fan of their cameras and design.

That sounds like the right one as LTE(Long Term Evolution) is another term for 4G. The last digit in model numbers normally denote the WiFi/mobile comms variant. I think the LTE/4G has benefit of added GPS. IMO the LTE version with Gear S2 Classic for only £50 more than Curry's/John Lewis want for WiFi only version is cracking.

You can hardly guess the market and say CPW will be £135 cheaper in a few months time when posters want to buy the phone now, as things stand unless you want to stick with the sim deal you've using there seems no advantage in this deal, apart from the phone won't be locked to the network or come with the extra baggage that brings to the phone.

I guess the best option is to keep looking as the prices are unlikely to increase before D Day?

So, without a SIM card, which people maybe able to get chepaer with their 'loyalty scheme' with certain network providers.

S7 edge on the upgrade scheme works out at a total of £87.40 interest over the 24 months, so you could take out the deal, and if for some reason you don't fancy an upgrade you could carry on paying out the contract, so looking at £3.6 per month to be able to change your mind and upgrade, or just keep it.

£3.60 per month to have the option of a 'free' upgrade could be a good deal for some.

My £30+ contract doesn't end til Oct so I don't even know why I'm considering this! :disappointed:

1 Mar 16 #886
so lets do some math for the S7 Edge...

Samsung offer;
£639 then add a typical sim only with at least 2 GB UK data (some people will not even look at 2GB min 4GB) 12 months * £12 (giff gaff 2 GB UK data) = £144

639 + (£12 x 24 months) = £927 (giff gaff 2 GB UK data)
or
639 + (£15 x 24 months) = £999 (giff gaff 4 GB UK data)

for comparison reasons with carphonewharehouse samsung contract was kept for 2 years

Carphone offer;
(£36 * 24 months) + 130 upfront cost = £994 (for 3 GB UK data)

Hmmmmmmmmmm
The 4GB giff gaff option is £5 more expensive over the 2 years than a 2 year monthly carphonewarehouse contract.
The 2GB giff gaff option is £67 less expensive over the 2 years that a 2 year monthly carphonewarehouse contract.

* Huge monthly cost 53.25+15 = £68.25 for first year and then £15 for another 12 months (based on 4GB data)
** Yes you can sell the VR set and save £80-90
*** If you can few months for reviews and upfront cost to drop to zero then carphonewarehouse contract is worth £864 which is £135 cheaper!!! (based on 4GB data costs) or £63 cheaper based on 2GB data costs

What do people think? is it worth it?

Here is the statement they gave regarding adpotable storage, I can see why they took the decision although personally I really think they should have given people the option:

"Samsung decided not to use the Android Marshmallow “adoptable storage” model. We believe that our users want a microSD card to transfer files between their phone and other devices (laptop, tablet, etc), especially the photos and videos they shoot with the camera.

With adoptable storage, first of all the card may be erased the first time it is inserted into the device. This behavior may be unexpected by many users and we don’t want our users to lose their files. Second, once Marshmallow starts using a card for adoptable storage, it cannot be read by other devices, so it loses this ability to be used for file transfer. Adoptable Storage is also primarily targeted towards emerging markets where devices with only 4-8GB of onboard storage are common. We think that our model of using microSD for mass storage is more in-line with our owner’s desires and expectations for how microSD should behave."

John Carmack on Twitter said the normal S7 is slightly better just because the Edge's 'edges' aren't used in VR and may cause a bit of light bleed, but that there's not much difference between the two.

I'm sure the standard S7 will be abit better, but it depends how much weight you place on VR as a deciding factor for which to buy.

Lag stutter lag stutter, and no indication that it'll definitely get the marshmallow update either, especially given the issues they're having with the note 5.

This one i like SAMSUNG UPGRADE PROGRAMME
some user discus do they want to take or not : )
Cash Price is £569.00 - Deposit is £56.90 - Amount of credit is £512.10 - Term is 24 months 14.9% p.a.
Monthly payment is £24.58 - Total amount payable is £646.82
Lost 78 pounds per 2 Years + pay full price for phone --- next year will be 300
So anyway it is new phone
Now Samsung offer UPGRADE after 1 Year
At the end of the first year of your finance agreement, subject to 3.6, you may, if you choose and are eligible to do so, upgrade to the latest Samsung Galaxy handset. If you choose to do this, and you meet the conditions set out in these terms regarding the new finance agreement and your existing handset, we will settle the outstanding balance on your original finance agreement provided you are not in arrears and are up to date with payments under the agreement. You will be required to enter into a new 24 month finance agreement relating to the purchase of the new (upgraded) handset

My review what they have done to milk people for new phones :
1 they charge you for credit 14.9% p.a.
2 Deposit is £56.90
3 You will pay full year for £24.58 x 12 = 294 You will pay in the first year
4 Now Samsung say that they will pay remaining balance ""we will settle the outstanding balance on your original finance agreement""" So what we have £646.82 - £56.90 - £294 = 295 left balance
5 Now is the tricky part as you need to return phone back
"""The Existing Handset must be received in condition where there are a maximum of 1 or 2 very minor scratches or scuffs. If there are more than 1 or 2 scratches and scuffs, it is likely that you will need to pay a surcharge in order to take part in the Upgrade Programme.""" So from day 1 you need to have screen protectors cases etc ....
6 Say you OK with return - now you will take another credit for new phone witch like will be 500-600 +
So each year you will end up paying £646.82 - 295 left balance = £351 + postage to return phone : )

Now if you buy phone for full price and sell after 1 year it is will be exactly the same The question can you sell you phone for 300 on ebay ?

What the profit Samsung from this deal - You will be in circle of pay each year for new device and it is will be Samsung
Do they losing money NO because they selling phone in full price and other company buy these phone under upgrade scheme

Note 5 Have 4 GB ram this help to load apps from memory where note 4 just 3GB
1GB of extra memory helps lot - I do agree and some programs will be loaded from memory quick
""The phones each year will be better """ Samsung/ Apple they need profits
But all improvement comes from smaller CPU and GPU they reduce size and power consumption Tweaking some GHZ to get better benchmarks

For me Note 4 Design and performance is sweat spot
What I mean You can get Note 4 for £350
Where S7 nearly £700 Pounds -- 2 phones I can buy 1 for me one for .....
next year will be S8 and after after and price will drop twice down Now £700 next year £350

I have root my phone to remove Samsung bloatware so I can not complain as maybe for some user all these samsung aps makes phone run slow

What an utter load of rubbish.

The note 4 is painfully slow compared to any phone from the same year with any aosp based rom, nevermind phones from 2015 onwards.

Seriously, you note fan boys need to just accept that you've been left behind in the past. You do not in any way have a bad phone, but to claim its still the best thing around is just butthurt to the extreme.

Hmmm, the Samsung Upgrade Programme looks good if you want to stick with Samsung in the future.

Pay around £25 a month for an S7+VR over 2 years but after 12 Months commit to a similar deal on the S8 and Samsung will pay balance of S7 cost.
Bades to rd3d2
1 Mar 16 #732

wonneil
1 Mar 16 #731
Has anyone actually had their order processed yet?
coxy82
1 Mar 16 #730
I guess you have to weigh up the option of whether you want to actually own the phone and have the choice to sell it on, or the equivalent of renting one and giving back with no option but to take another phone even if you don't like the new model. As we've seen previously, Samsung could make the error of not including expandable memory for example.

However, and with this all in mind, given the lower monthly cost off the programme I'm willing to take the chance.

Anyone else with similar thoughts?
rd3d2
1 Mar 16 1 #729

Isn't it better to go for the Upgrade Programme (e.g. S7 Edge the total amount payable is £646.82 - £7 more than SIM free - so £24.58 per month + £56.90 deposit) and have the an option of an upgrade after 12 months if you want? Am I missing something?

That's not the correct amount for S7 Edge
It's an example (example is the S7 price)
Price payable for S7 Edge would be:

24 x monthly payments of £27.60
Total = £726.30 :man:

That is a great option for those who want to change their phone every 12 months but you are going to be paying the extra Apr and putting a deposit down. Not for me if Im ready to pay a full price at once. Sorry - cold.

You're getting something for free that otherwise would have cost money... Of course it's a deal, regardless of whether you could pay it off in one.

Most people could pay for it in one, but if there's no charge to spread that over 6 months then why not?
soldierboy001 to buffalo4x4

Read the Oxford dictionary and a you will find that a deal is a transaction between two people that come to an agreement on price. No mention of a discount.

I saw post earlier and was surprised by the notion of 24 months when they only did 12 months via Apple. It's still a good deal if you have a sim only deal. The only thing is that because it isn't an iPhone and there are other good phones like G5 launching too, you might actually get a good deal on it via contract if can wait a month. I'm not saying iPhone is better just that the contracts are alway rubbish at launch. Can tell 6S is selling poorly as earliest ever seen ok deals.

I appreciate some people can't afford £53 per month and the whole thing has been a little disappointing to say the least! But even at £53 a month over 12 months, at least the phone is paid off after a year and your not tied into a 24 month contract. At least that's the way I am looking at it anyway. ☺️

True, for me its not a huge saving on the Vodafone-mobilephone £64/month deal including 10gb tariff and 53/month is a lot for a phone so id rather buy it outright or not bother. To think I got a amazing deal on o2 at £20/month which £0 upfront 8gb data and ultd texts/mins including a Samsung s5 not long after launch and still have that deal for a couple of months - retail value £53/month at the time plus £99 upfront

erm, what am I doing wrong? I can only see it available through paypal with credit:

PayPal Credit

from £30.68 per month

A £569 purchase would be an instalment offer of 24 monthly payments of £27.32, with a total amount payable of £655.40. The cost of credit is £86.40 and the rate of interest is 14.9% p.a. (fixed).

Representative example:
•Assumed Credit limit £1200
•Purchase rate 17.9% p.a. (variable)
•Representative 17.9% APR (variable)
•Subject to credit status and T&C’s

How do I make payments?
You can make a single payment from your bank account, debit card or PayPal balance at any time, either online or by calling PayPal Customer Service. Alternatively you can set up monthly Direct Debit payments from a bank account you’ve linked to your PayPal account. To set up Direct Debit payments, log into your PayPal account and follow the instructions on the Make a Payment page.

goto https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/home then click the samsung order on the right. theres an option to "Make a PayPal Credit payment" for now it's 0.00 but when you get your first payment through you can set it to repeat that every month. not sure if you can just put £53.25 in the other amount box.

Just a heads up. I bought my iPad on PP credit last year. Make sure you check that auto payments are set up, or you have to pay it manually. I assumed it would be automatic and got fined £12 for a missed payment. Just to be sure.

But you do have options. To pay in full now, use the funding source selected, or choose another way to pay."

I went into the Samsung store today and they offered me £160 for my old samgung s5. So if i do the O2 deal, ult texts, ultd calls and 3Gb per month, 24 months at £36 pm also £80 upfront, this turns out alright as I am getting £80 back. I currently pay £10 a month for the same data mins and texts so £26 a month for the phone works out ok i think. I work out (negating the £10 a month i would be paying anyway for a plan) that i would be paying £544 in total for the phone over 24 months this way. This is of course taking into account the £80 i get back for the s5. I hope this helps anyone else who is looking to upgrade from a s%.

PS - this is for the samsung s7, not the edge.

I had a shot of both and REALLY like how compact the s7 is even compared to the s5. Also i tested out the camera and the focus is blazingly fast. The few pictures i took were excellent. I was also impressed with the camera app, nice logical layout and plenty of creative mode to play with. There is a full manual mode if you want more control over ISO etc. I also like the fact that the touchwiz does not seem very bloated. I imagine Samsung will be selling these like hotcakes!

Again on the focus, i did a side by side with the s5 and the s7 and the difference is HUGE. It seems like the s7 is almost instant. I cannot convey how impressed I was with this.

Also tried on the GearVR and I was a bit disappointed. You get to sit on a swivel chair and they run you through a VR demo thing. I did not feel very immersed as i knew there were others in the shop, i wasn't wearing headphones, I knew the sales guy was watching me and the individual pixels are clearly defined. It also looks like you are looking through a letter box type view. I still think this could be good but more experimetation will need to be done when i get the VR unit. I guess it could always be sold on anyway.
