Received an email this morning from Samsung stating Paypal will be offering 0% finance on products bought from the Samsung online shop this coming Tuesday 1st March for one day only!
Could be benefitial to those who want to get the new Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, but don't fancy paying so much upfront in one go.
For example:
Samsung Galaxy S7 with free Gear VR = £569
Paypal payments over 24 months @ 0% = £23.71 per month.
Update - I posted a screenshot of the email I received in the comments below.
No 24 months deal
6 or 12 months only

It's unbelievably slow and clunky compared to even budget phones like the OPX.
Lag stutter lag stutter, and no indication that it'll definitely get the marshmallow update either, especially given the issues they're having with the note 5.
Only way to make it run nicely is to flash cyanogen and give up the nice camera and accept half the battery life.

I've preordered through EE, £10 up front, £35 a month for 10gb a month (friends and family discount). But my old contract is £19, but includes 10gb, free deezer account, and EE never increase the cost each year (before that was brought in). Going through Samsung would mean a high monthly cost but the phone will be unlocked, I'd get a gear vr, and I get to keep deezer and a data plan which will never go up. Also after 2 years if only be spending £19 a month. Not sure whether to cancel or go with this!

Ee prices do go up. They have just introduced a 1.3% increase inline with the retail price index from March 30th
"Hi Jason, from 30 March 2016 your monthly price plan will increase by 1.3% in line with the most recently published RPI (Retail Price Index), as per your terms. For example, a £49.99 price plan will increase by £0.65 a month. For more info and to calculate your new monthly plan cost, visit http://discover.ee.co.uk/ee/3QuBmb"

I'll give you a tip. If go PayPal credit route set up a new account. Otherwise every time you use PayPal it tries to use that then the bank account you use to pay it with. It then adds those transactions onto the account total but you can't pay that section off of total credit balance so will get charged 17% odd on that section until cleared balance on your 12/24 months phone. I learned that from when I bought an iPhone on the same system. I bought a £300 laptop via mobile where sometimes PayPal doesn't let you choose payment methods and got stung this way!

Had my Note 4 for 16 months now, no difference in performance since the day I got it. Battery could do with changing now as sometimes drops from 35% to zero, a known common issue. Rooted, with 128gb SD card, best phone I've ever owned by a mile (and followed my Note 1, 2 and 3).
I use the SD card and IR blaster every day for boring reasons of convenience and now the battery needs changing, the final confirmation that the Note 5 would have been a backwards step.
Hoping the Note 6 follows the S7 and brings back some of the missing features from old versions, then I will be opening my wallet.

Because you don't have to pay for it all at once, you are paying for it in monthly installments, interest free.

Great deal. Voted hot and is tempting but since my work alarm has stopped going off suddenly, despite doing everything on android I needed to install an additional app to get a new alarm that works and can no longer trust the phone. Never had a problem with ios other than the obvious cost and it is a smoother experience overall anyway so will be moving back to apple on my next phone eventually.

When I bought my 128gb iPhone 6 I probably could have bought it all at once but rather I did this and then paid off in 3 months. Not everyone can pay out £700 in one go and then have a comfortable month! I'm behind you on stuff like ballon payments on cars though. Pretty good deal for people who dont want to be on contract. Recently upgraded to the s7 edge with free VR.
- android:
Ugly UI? change launcher and customise
Ugly icon?: buy icon packs for launcher.
Laggy? force close some app
easy file management, a lot of software to choose from
No more space? add sd card
power management varies between app (chrome is the worst app imo but...we all still use it)
- iOS:
User friendly
waste a lot of space between app icon (probably just me)
experience a lot of 0 byte bug which results in backing up and restoring
iCloud is pretty stupid since not a lot of people has fibre optic
laggy? double tap home and close some apps
iTune mandatory for media transfer, good backup solution
no more space? delete some application or media. A lot of people think icloud is expandable storage...surprisingly
excellent power management
Honestly the only thing that matters is what YOU prefer.

I didn't say MM was rubbish I said not much of an improvement ie Lollipop was a massive improvement over KitKat, also my S4 still last a full day unlike the battery draining S6, so my S4 won't see any benefits from the extended battery life. The fact Samsung have fitted a larger battery to the S7 suggests even MM hasn't fully dealt with that issue.

Think i'll be biting the bullet with this, i am still on the HTC One M7 from 3 years ago and i've wanted an upgrade for so long. Not in a contract at the minute so it won't be a hassle for me to get the S7.
I was reading through the Samsung website though - Am i reading this wrong, or can you actually upgrade to the newer phone (Samsung S8) when it's released, or is that a separate offer thus doubling the price per month?
"Samsung Upgrade Programme
Join Samsung Upgrade Programme for the option to stay up to date with the latest galaxy smartphone from £24.58 per month*
Cash Price is £569.00
Deposit is £56.90
Amount of credit is £512.10
Term is 24 months
Representative APR & rate of interest is 14.9% p.a. (fixed)
Monthly payment is £24.58
Total amount payable is £646.82"
You can choose to return your s7 after 12 months for a "free" s8 when it is out and they'll renew your 24month contract (potentially altering price pro-rata s8 cost vs s7). Just means you can't sell your s7.

My thoughts on the S7 edge:
* I have the Note 4 and rarely do I use the S-pen, I got it mainly for the faster CPU, better camera, and the larger screen over the S5.
* I skipped the S6 and Note 5 due to the lack of micro SD card and the battery, both of which are now addressed plus water resistance (still no removable battery but 3600mah is more than enough for me)
* If Samsung does what it did last year, it will use the same CPU and camera for the note 6 and edge+
* The closest to the S7 edge is the S6 edge plus which currently sells for £550, with the price of the free Gear VR for the S7 edge taken off the price, it comes down to £560 (great if you really wanted the Gear VR or sell it off)
* I hope the blue box day sale on Tuesday will give more freebies like last year (free premium headphones for purchases over £375) and I will go through cashback sites as well
* Price history of the S6 edge plus says the price went up right after release then went down by 8% (major retailer price) after 6 months which is not bad. With the freebies on pre-order, I think its worth getting the S7 or S7 edge before general release

Just phoned O2 to see if i could wrangle a deal out of them, no go for me personally.
At the minute i'm in a SIM only deal for £11pm, so that with the Samsung cost would work out about £35pm, but i'd also get the free VR headset.
O2 seemed unaware of the deal with Samsung, they wanted me to pay £37pm with a £130 cost ontop for the phone, that's without the VR Gear. Declined the offer myself, would have been easier to keep it all in-house.
Topper1900
28 Feb 16#254
From that snapshot it looks like the S6 Edge+ dropped to £549 after a month then stayed around that price for a while, so buy now and get the VR worth £80 free now or wait a month or two, miss out on the interest free but save £80 upfront and avoid the usual teething problems, decisions, decisions.

You make some good points but you have missed quite a few things:
- Android has the ability to send files without requiring wifi or using data (whereas iPhone would use at least twice the filesize in data).
- Android supports full mobile hotspot instead of blocking it (in many cases).
- Android has back and menu buttons which are both a massive advantage.
- Android has a much better keyboard (usually requiring less than half the number of button presses to type a wifi password for instance)
- Android has an app-drawer which lists all apps in sortable customisable manner instead of dropping 100s of apps on your desktop in an complete mess.
- iPhones have poor build quality and are extremely easy to smash or bend.
- Android supports much more functionality and can install apps that YOU want to (not what Apple say that you're allowed).
Also, iOS does NOT have "excellent power management" - the battery life is appalling.
FYI, I am referring to mid/high spec Android phones, not the cheap nasty ones which don't provide the best experience.
I will say though that Apple care is second to none!

Haha, no doubt! I don't really care about the financing options- the question is if there will be any extras outside of buying on credit. I have the feeling that this Blue Box Day will be a let-down for me personally.
If I were Samsung, I would certainly not look to discount my newest gadgets.
I am just wondering if they will bundle any other extras over and above the Gear VR!

I could not agree more. Now, if they let us have the wireless charging pod or a Gear S2 at a discount- that would be far more interesting- and in the realm of the possible- compared to discounting an unreleased phone.

I'm not sure why people think the option of the Upgrade Programme would be cheaper. The Blue box deal specifically takes off the APR and even if the handset is more costly to start with, the APR on the Upgrade Programme makes the Blue Box deal a no-brainer if you want the phone.
I figure that I can have a £10 or so per month SIM only contract and will be paying around £35pm. Not bad for a brand new top of the range phone as well as a VR Gear headset.

Samsung says all pre-orders until March 10th will get a Gear VR and I trust them more than other retailers such as Carphone Warehouse. Last blue box sale they gave out free premium headphones for all orders over £300.

I thought that to start with - but I can afford to pay it all upfront and by paying via Paypal I would lose the extra protection given by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Axct when paying for anything over £100 on a credit card. Admittedly, Samsung isnt likely to go down the pan anytime soon.

0% interest ? No such animal. If the price is good that's fine but please accept the fact that if you are offered 0% interest someone has already done the sums and built the price in. You are paying the interest you just can't see it. This is best advice hope you can take it as such.

I intentionally missed a lot of points, was trying (probably failed) to view it as a average consumer.
For the battery I was using iOS 7.x at the time and for someone who is a heavy user of a lot of application, bluetooth, mobile data etc, it did last for more than 15+ hours. Compare to my current phone which is a HTC one m9, it drained 20% just using the music player, browsing chrome (somewhat CPU intensive just browinsg) and bluetooth (use a moto 360 gen 2) within 1 hour and 30 minutes. Then again google apps probably has the most usage and the m9 has SD 810 which is a pile of overheated crap
Haven't experience apple care to be honest, did hear good things from my brother and friend. I'm much of a Android and I pretty much agree with all your points.

I'm a bit wary about phones without changeable batteries. I'm on 2 year contracts and usually have to buy a replacement battery after 12-18 months or so to keep reasonable battery life, particularly if I've been somewhere very cold (that seems to damage them, after needing replacements after 2 winter holidays).
That being said, I personally would only buy an official battery. I've seen quite a few stories of knockoff batteries getting too hot, or not functioning as well in the long term.

For those who are interested in the camera on the s7,one thing I did notice when playing around with the demo s7 was that the camera is 12mp in 4:3 and drops down to 9mp when 16:9 is selected.Where my note 4 is 16mp in 16:9 and drops to 12mp in 4:3.so in other words if like me you like shooting in 16:9 ratio then it's quite a step down in pixels, and yes I know pixels aren't everything but it's something to think about if you zoom/crop into photos.

Just went and had a look at the demo units in CPW and EE while on my lunch. The Edge feels a lot better this time around, thanks to the curved edges. Unfortunately they didn't have the Edge in black, but they had the S7 in black and it looks like it doesn't show hardly any fingerprints now. The law specifically said that they couldn't do this anymore, but the dodgy mobile phone companies do it anyway. It might be a loophole but they are deliberately ripping people off by doing something the law says they're not allowed to do!
Also, they do tend to break the law a lot and bully/hassle/threaten people out of hundreds or thousands of pounds. At least, EE and Vodafone do. I doubt the others are any different.

Come on then Judge Judy, please recite the specific laws you're referring when you say it's "against the law".
I'll tell you one thing, telecommunications is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the country. Anything with a slight whiff of legal boundaries and it's shut down.
I don't see anything wrong with increasing contract price in line with RPI. Most other services do so and no one complains. It's following basic economics.
But since then, the mobile networks have turned round and given Ofcom a massive V-sign and said "Ha ha ha. We'll do whatever we want and get away with it!!!" and Ofcom will do nothing like always!
Increasing contract prices is a disgusting immoral practice - would you be happy if they did if for car finance or mortgages or hundreds of other things? Or you order a TV from Amazon for £500 then they charge you £550? That's all fine, is it?
Perhaps you can provide details of what you mean by "Most other services do so and no one complains." ? I think this will be news for everyone!
If you sign up to something that is £30/month, that should mean it costs £30/month, not £32, not £35 but ******* £30 !!!!!! It's not like it's a 20 year contract; as soon as the contract is up, they can change it to whatever they want.

You two need to get a room. Or specifically a forum on which to discuss this to your heart's content without detracting from a thread on a deals website where this conversation is irrelevant.
People coming on here to discuss the pros and cons of this deal and/or a contract deal to go with it are going to miss out on helpful advice due to this drivel.
delboyd
29 Feb 16#371
Yes. You've just proven yourself wrong. It's not illegal at all.
All they've done in the article you've provided is explain how upon price hike, I.e what Three recently did with their AYCE data package, consumers are free to complain and leave their package.
However, if the contract you have signed states "Your package will increase in line with the RPI" and you have signed, and therefore agreed to this, then there's no legal issue at all.
If you'd signed a contract that didn't mention RPI increases and the company went ahead anyway, then sure, the contract has been legally broken.
Lump sum payments are different to 24 month plans. If the company had customers on 2 year plans and didn't account for inflation, then the margin per customer is obviously going to decrease per year which misaligns forecasts etc.
Whether or not it's justified however is up for debate.

It's a shame that you can't understand it.
Ofcom made it law / regulation that they couldn't hike up prices mid-contract without allowing customers to leave and the networks deliberately ignored this by changing their T&Cs to get around the law/regulations. While this isn't against the letter of the law, it is clearly against the spirit, as well as being a disgusting practice.
The simple fact of the matter is that if you sign up for a 2 year FIXED price contract (like these are), it should be a FIXED price.
The other simple fact is that the network operators don't care about laws, regulations, morals, ethics, etc. If they see a way to scam money out of you, they will.

Inflation is only around 2% pa so is anybody who's paying £600+ just for a new phone really going to worry about a 40p p.m. increase in the second year of the contract? I very much doubt it, when the likes of Sky bump up their subs by £'s p.m. annually. Think you need to chill.
delboyd
29 Feb 16#383
Urgh please just listen and learn:
"If your mobile phone provider makes increases to your fixed monthly price by more than the Retail Price Index (RPI), you should be able to exit the contract if you’re still within your minimum term without incurring a penalty fee."
Now, as of 23 January 2014:
"For all new fixed contracts from 23 January 2014, you can exit without penalty for any price rise at all. This is unless you were told at the point of sale that the price would definitely be increasing."
If you buy a TV from Amazon tomorrow at £1000 on finance, and the T&Cs state that the finance will come with 10% interest over 12 months, would you get annoyed at being charged £1100 overall? I mean I guess you probably would, but most people would take the time to read and appreciate those conditions of sale...

When you click through to S7/Edge page, click pre order. Next screen will ask what payment method you want.
As of midnight, the credit option will drop to 0% APR.
You need to pay the remaining months left in the contract, and you get 10% discount, ie £30 p month x 6 months £180 minus £18 the 10% = £162 to exit the contract. (maybe less as you pay a month in advance when you sign up).
You could call and see what they offer, you dont need to commit.
sdutton007
29 Feb 16#388
How much isn't really the point. When you sign up to a £30/month FIXED contract, it obviously should be fixed at £30/month. If the mobile networks don't like it, they can include inflation into the price (approximately).
Charging £31 for a £30 contract is nothing short of theft. Whereas if the told you the TRUTH and charged you that for a £31 contract, there wouldn't be an issue.
And I don't know if Sky does that or not - I prefer better services at a lower cost.
Not sure what you're trying to prove with those quotes lol.
If you were to buy a TV from Amazon that SPECIFICALLY says £50/month and "TOTAL PRICE PAYABLE: £600" but buried in the hundreds of pages of incomprehensible smallprint somewhere was some legalese that translates to "we reserve the right to increase the price by however much we feel like whenever we feel like it. We also reserve the right to own your soul and take your first-born" and you ended up getting charged £60/month and ending up being £120 more than the "TOTAL PRICE PAYABLE".... would you seriously say "That's completely unfront, honest and reasonable. I would have happily paid more" ????
If you believe that advertising things at one fixed price and then charging more is reasonable, then you are the sort of mug that these companies rely on!
EDIT: Am I right to assume that Ofcom's attempt to put a stop to these disgusting price-hikes didn't change anything for the consumer? They wasted huge sums of taxpayer's money to do exactly nothing?

What about people who already have paypal credit, are we saying the thousands who have are not entitled to go for this at 0%?

This whole argument is getting confused now. The original "illegal" comment was about something completely different.
It does seem that Ofcom completely failed unfortunately. They tried to do a great thing by stopping price increases in FIXED-PRICE contracts, but they ended up doing nothing sadly :disappointed:

Why on earth are people acting before they even know the details...
Signing up for some other completely different credit agreement is plain stupid.... as this would have resulted in a credit check and lessen the chances of further credit. I too am really interested in this deal but this thread has frankly become a bit silly... it's supposed to be about the phones, getting them cheaper, etc... but until the full details are published we just wont know.
Please can we keep this thread on topic now?
zedlor
29 Feb 161#435
This time last year I was saying, wow these people are so stupid pre ordering phones for over £500.
Here I am waiting to see if there are any other offers before doing the same as yourself and getting the S7 Edge...

soldierboy001
29 Feb 16#437
Oh Shot, that stopped a good argument that was going nowhere.
The argument about a credit agreement is completely different as that is for a loan agreement, phone charges are a variable that takes into account rising costs in the duration of the contract so can not be compared.
Matty8787
29 Feb 16#438
No it is a samsung offer.. As I said before are they going to lock out all those people who already have paypal credit?
It says 17.9% APR Variable, meaning it can vary.
Meaning it could and should change, for samsung, for this deal.

I don't need a new phone, I'm quite happy with my Honor 7. But I'm very tempted by the S7 Edge. I nearly bought a reconditioned S6 recently specifically for the Gear VR.
Is the Edge worth the premium over the S7 and is gold too blingy for an old bloke like me?
stunno to Bobbajob
29 Feb 161#445
I had a Sony Z3 which I thought was far too big, but I had a play with the S7 Edge today and it 'feels' much smaller. It actually feels not much bigger than the S7.
I'm 57 and definitely not gay and quite liked the gold one! Anyway is not really that gold!!
XxS7U4R7xX to Bobbajob

Yes Bob. If you are going to order one go for the sensible option and order a S7 edge in black, I am. I've held a gold one in the flesh and it just screamed bling and look at me I'm gold. I'd love to be able to get one of the models that don't have the Samsung logo on the front too, but sadly they are only available in Korea and one other location I believe.

UK-based gold-plating customization and personalization retailer Truly Exquisite has revealed that it will be the first company to offer Samsung’s recently-announced flagship smartphones of 2016, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, in three luxury finishes — 24K Gold, 18K Rose Gold and 14K Platinum, all of which you can pre-order today.
Pricing for these opulent handsets starts at £1680 for the most basic model, which includes an 18K Rose Gold bezel, home button, volume rocker and camera module. Inventory will leave the firm’s warehouse on April 1st, 21-days after Samsung’s official release of the devices. All customers will receive a complimentary Gear VR and a Wireless Charger, too.
This isn’t the first Samsung device to face the gold-anodization treatment, though, and it certainly won’t be the last. The Galaxy A5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 5 have all posed in shiny gold colorways.
The fact they have offered you £4000 in the form of a line of credit, means it has had an effect on your credit rating.
Not sure if declining it has helped or not, but i personally would not advise doing full credit checks just to see what you ll get.

If you say so lol.
And saying that I'm misleading people and spouting libellious claptrap just because you disagree with me is a bit childish, yes.
Anyway, I've got better things to do than argue with you. I fully admit that I didn't know that Ofcom caved and allowed the practice to continue as long as it was mentioned up-front which the earlier articles never mentioned.
I will state some final things though:
- Selling people a £xx FIXED PRICE contract and then increasing price mid-term is a disgusting practice
- Ofcom tried to protect consumers by stopping this practice but unfortunately failed - although RPI price increases do now have to mentioned up-front
- As long as the buyer KNOWS about the price increases before purchase, there is no problem
FYI, I just went on 2 different major websites and put a galaxy s7 in the basket. One site mentioned nothing about RPI price increases; the other site only said it in the small print at the bottom of the page which is very easy to miss. Perhaps they do make it more clear when you checkout. But if not, that's not very upfront.

I went into the Samsung store today and they offered me £160 for my old samgung s5. So if i do the O2 deal, ult texts, ultd calls and 3Gb per month, 24 months at £36 pm also £80 upfront, this turns out alright as I am getting £80 back. I currently pay £10 a month for the same data mins and texts so £26 a month for the phone works out ok i think. I work out (negating the £10 a month i would be paying anyway for a plan) that i would be paying £544 in total for the phone over 24 months this way. This is of course taking into account the £80 i get back for the s5. I hope this helps anyone else who is looking to upgrade from a s%.
PS - this is for the samsung s7, not the edge.
I had a shot of both and REALLY like how compact the s7 is even compared to the s5. Also i tested out the camera and the focus is blazingly fast. The few pictures i took were excellent. I was also impressed with the camera app, nice logical layout and plenty of creative mode to play with. There is a full manual mode if you want more control over ISO etc. I also like the fact that the touchwiz does not seem very bloated. I imagine Samsung will be selling these like hotcakes!
Again on the focus, i did a side by side with the s5 and the s7 and the difference is HUGE. It seems like the s7 is almost instant. I cannot convey how impressed I was with this.
Also tried on the GearVR and I was a bit disappointed. You get to sit on a swivel chair and they run you through a VR demo thing. I did not feel very immersed as i knew there were others in the shop, i wasn't wearing headphones, I knew the sales guy was watching me and the individual pixels are clearly defined. It also looks like you are looking through a letter box type view. I still think this could be good but more experimetation will need to be done when i get the VR unit. I guess it could always be sold on anyway.

I initially pre-ordered on the upgrade programme last week and the email was delayed. The gear vr doesnt ship with it and requires a claim with proof of purchase prior to the 10th I believe (at least thats what they are doing for orders from CPW etc..).
Am I missing something or is this 12 months only for 0% credit on an s7 via PayPal? Was expecting 24

True, for me its not a huge saving on the Vodafone-mobilephone £64/month deal including 10gb tariff and 53/month is a lot for a phone so id rather buy it outright or not bother. To think I got a amazing deal on o2 at £20/month which £0 upfront 8gb data and ultd texts/mins including a Samsung s5 not long after launch and still have that deal for a couple of months - retail value £53/month at the time plus £99 upfront

Just a heads up. I bought my iPad on PP credit last year. Make sure you check that auto payments are set up, or you have to pay it manually. I assumed it would be automatic and got fined £12 for a missed payment. Just to be sure.
I've talked myself out of this deal for now...

How do you set up auto payments mate? I've just had a look on my PayPal account and can't find anything relating to that.
Chowchilla
1 Mar 16#646
goto https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/home then click the samsung order on the right. theres an option to "Make a PayPal Credit payment" for now it's 0.00 but when you get your first payment through you can set it to repeat that every month. not sure if you can just put £53.25 in the other amount box.
How do I make payments?
You can make a single payment from your bank account, debit card or PayPal balance at any time, either online or by calling PayPal Customer Service. Alternatively you can set up monthly Direct Debit payments from a bank account you’ve linked to your PayPal account. To set up Direct Debit payments, log into your PayPal account and follow the instructions on the Make a Payment page.

I saw post earlier and was surprised by the notion of 24 months when they only did 12 months via Apple. It's still a good deal if you have a sim only deal. The only thing is that because it isn't an iPhone and there are other good phones like G5 launching too, you might actually get a good deal on it via contract if can wait a month. I'm not saying iPhone is better just that the contracts are alway rubbish at launch. Can tell 6S is selling poorly as earliest ever seen ok deals.

Better off with a 12 month contract at least then you are not paying out 2 separate bills (1 to samsung and 1 for a sim only deal). Have you checked out my deal with the 12 month vodafone contract link below. Hmmm, the Samsung Upgrade Programme looks good if you want to stick with Samsung in the future.

Bades to rd3d2
1 Mar 16#732

balddevil
1 Mar 16#723
If you choose to upgrade after the 12 months ( when new flagship phone is released) you get the new handset and then return the old one, so you won't be without one.

rd3d2
1 Mar 161#729

coxy82
1 Mar 16#730
I guess you have to weigh up the option of whether you want to actually own the phone and have the choice to sell it on, or the equivalent of renting one and giving back with no option but to take another phone even if you don't like the new model. As we've seen previously, Samsung could make the error of not including expandable memory for example.
However, and with this all in mind, given the lower monthly cost off the programme I'm willing to take the chance.
Anyone else with similar thoughts?

If it's VR you want you need the Edge

What makes you say that?
EDIT: Just checked and the S7 IS a better option for VR than the Edge (http://www.valuewalk.com/2016/02/galaxy-s7-better-than-s7-edge-vr/)

Checkout the many reviews. It has been mentioned the extra viewing space is better for VR. I am going for the Edge for my VR development.

Tempting - gonna keep my S5 plus - not that keen on something shinnier and faster and £500+ extra just yet.

Anyone recommend a tempered glass screen protector for the S7? Not the edge, ta.

Thanks for the info. That is a pity about being 32gb only. Personally, I'd rather have 64gb onboard than 200gb expandable (just my preference). Not all apps are compatible with expandable storage and the ones that are, can run very slowly. Be nice to at least be presented with a 64gb option.

Interesting, I read the opposite. Can you link any of these reviews, I've found very little apart from initial hands on stuff.

I am just surprised not ALL the big boys out there are not offering the exact same deal. At the end of the day it's a sale for them and they still get there money. Samsung and others have huge amounts of money, they are investing in the future by offering deals like this. It just makes sense on so many levels.
Opening post
Could be benefitial to those who want to get the new Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, but don't fancy paying so much upfront in one go.
For example:
Samsung Galaxy S7 with free Gear VR = £569
Paypal payments over 24 months @ 0% = £23.71 per month.
Update - I posted a screenshot of the email I received in the comments below.
No 24 months deal
6 or 12 months only

Lag stutter lag stutter, and no indication that it'll definitely get the marshmallow update either, especially given the issues they're having with the note 5.
Only way to make it run nicely is to flash cyanogen and give up the nice camera and accept half the battery life.
It was a great phone.... 2 years ago.
True - mine is smooth running Nameless Rom and good battery life - 1.25 days on moderate to heavy use.
Option to get it from mobile phones direct for £64 quid a month, with £47.25 topcashback. But no vr headset... and I'd rather deal with Samsung if anything went wrong.
Hot!
It blatantly says it in the title that the finance option starts on 1st March 2016... people these days on HotUKdeal...
Already purchased this on my card though and will do a balance transfer for 0% interest. Makes this a good deal if you don't have a 0% interest offer on
It's an example (example is the S7 price)
Price payable for S7 Edge would be:
10% deposit = £63.90
24 x monthly payments of £27.60
Total = £726.30 :man:
*Even so though you'd probably be better off selling the phone yourself in 12 months time then getting the new one
WoW.
That is quick.
Looks quite similar to S6 though.
Will it be from midnight Monday?
I'm sticking with it indefinitely.
Moved to a 6P in November and so far best device I've encountered.
Will be taking a punt at S7 Edge.
Touchwiz is pretty good, although Nova Launcher (among others) offers a faster more lightweight UI.
i found out they offer free standard delivery, express delivery is optional.
You do hear some nonsense in these forums..
Even my Nexus 5 still feels quicker than my Note 4 or S6 did, hence why I still have the Nexus but not the Sammys.
I use the SD card and IR blaster every day for boring reasons of convenience and now the battery needs changing, the final confirmation that the Note 5 would have been a backwards step.
Hoping the Note 6 follows the S7 and brings back some of the missing features from old versions, then I will be opening my wallet.
Sorry being too lazy to look it up. Hopefully an answer on here is quicker :-)
Now, a pair of headphones or a case/screen protector, would certainly be a good bonus to have.
What are you guys expecting in terms of mobile phone related deals- any impressions from previous Blue Box Day deals?
If I don't like the S7 Edge after a few months I can get a new 6P free from work

I did have a few shots that I took side by side but didn't bother keeping them.
Come Tuesday will i go to buy an S7 Edge, but when payment method comes up, there will be an option for Paypal Credit yes?
Do i need to do/set up anything on my Paypal currently?
this is going to be me in a few years time...(a VR junkie)
They had them on display from the day after the official announcement.
One thing that was good was how fast it was at focusing, the note 4 did seem slow compared to the s7 edge.
The Note 4 can pipe out 4k via MHL 3.0 too, fact fans.
iPhone 6S is blazing fast, no hint of lag..
Is there likely to be any additional benefits by waiting for this Blue Box Deal Day other than the 0% Paypal Credit ?
Topcashback 5.25%? or only 1% on S7 Sale?
- android:
Ugly UI? change launcher and customise
No alarms, no surprises: Vodafone’s fixed price promise helps take the worry out of your mobile life.

You are mistaken i am afraid!
"Hi xxxx, we want to let you know that from 30 March 2016 you'll notice a discount on your bill. As we've done in previous years we're increasing our monthly price plans in line with RPI (Retail Price Index). As you may know this does not apply to the plan associated with this number, so the discount will cancel out the increase and your monthly amount will remain the same."
It's what Samsung have done with their adaptation of Marshmallow that's the issue...
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/cs/groups/public/documents/contentdocuments/vftst052330.pdf
Except last time, it was so high that had to offer customers the chance to leave:
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/campaigns/excess-charges/out-of-bundle-5b/
the cheapest option and are disappointed with the results.
Yup! That's why I'm wondering whether to upgrade and lose that (as well as deezer) but have a cheaper monthly cost, or use this deal, keep my current contract and never have price rises, get a free gear vr and Unlocked phone but costing more a month in total. First world problems, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:
I was reading through the Samsung website though - Am i reading this wrong, or can you actually upgrade to the newer phone (Samsung S8) when it's released, or is that a separate offer thus doubling the price per month?
"Samsung Upgrade Programme
Join Samsung Upgrade Programme for the option to stay up to date with the latest galaxy smartphone from £24.58 per month*
Cash Price is £569.00
Deposit is £56.90
Amount of credit is £512.10
Term is 24 months
Representative APR & rate of interest is 14.9% p.a. (fixed)
Monthly payment is £24.58
Total amount payable is £646.82"
It's at the bottom of the S7 page
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/galaxy-s/galaxy-s7/
What still needs to be asked, is "how long" in total will the 0% apr finance from Paypal last, 6 months, a year, two years?
http://shop.samsung.com/uk/samsung-galaxy-s7-32gb-gold-config/
for the upgrade program its GBP 646.82
and for the paypal its GBP 655
Or else buy a cutter online for like £1.
SDXC cards only come in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, etc... do they mean it can only support 128GB ?
I've never seen one until now.
That is really strange.... for decades, all memory was sold in binary amounts - now, out of the blue, Sandisk start selling ONE card with 200GB? Weird.
The full payable amount on finance for S7 Edge would be £736.30 (10% - £63.90 upfront + £27.60 x 24)
I remember when Megabytes seemed alot!
I am sure it's only while stocks last for the Gear VR, don't wanna miss out!
Me too- it is until stock lasts anyway. Any specific advantages one would get out of buying from Samsung directly?
Seems you can get it instore but the staff said you had to wait till the phone was instock.
If I were Samsung, I would certainly not look to discount my newest gadgets.
Phoebe: You will get the headset.
Phoebe: It doesn't have to show in your basket.
EDIT: The fact that no one (correct me if wrong) referred to any previous BBD events as bringing any added bonuses outside of financing, makes me less than excited for 1/03/2016;
I figure that I can have a £10 or so per month SIM only contract and will be paying around £35pm. Not bad for a brand new top of the range phone as well as a VR Gear headset.
I find it hard to believe they would discount the phones after so many people have already paid full price for the pre-orders...
Also the Gear VR is DEF included, just doesn't add to the basket.....
From CPW T&C's....
Deliveries of the VR for SIM free pre-orders Online will be delivered separate to handset deliveries and may take up to 5 days after you receive your handset.

Have never received an email so would like some more info lol
I see paypal credit on there now, but that adds the 17.9% so hoping as soon as midnight hits it will reduce to the 0%
Need me the black edge!
http://shop.samsung.com/uk/blue-box-day/
I'm worried the S7 Edge will go out of stock/delayed delivery. My LG G4 crapped out yesterday with the boot loop fault, so I'm without a phone for a week. But it makes no sense ordering today if they might give a free gift tomorrow (like the headphones last year).
Although I'm guessing that there just wont be any freebies :disappointed:
That being said, I personally would only buy an official battery. I've seen quite a few stories of knockoff batteries getting too hot, or not functioning as well in the long term.
thought I'd just point it out about the ratio thing as some might not know about the change Samsung has made.
Hope the note 6 doesn't go down the same route with the ratio
Just need to buy the edge now lol.
Also, they do tend to break the law a lot and bully/hassle/threaten people out of hundreds or thousands of pounds. At least, EE and Vodafone do. I doubt the others are any different.
CORRECTION: There's MANY reasons....
People coming on here to discuss the pros and cons of this deal and/or a contract deal to go with it are going to miss out on helpful advice due to this drivel.
The screen is absolutely amazing though; I was really blown away by it. I love it.
I was really impressed with how fluid it was too. I was purposely whizzing out of one thing into another and it didn't show any signs of lag at all.
As of midnight, the credit option will drop to 0% APR.
You need to have a credit account with them, like a credit card, you can pre apply here.............
https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-virtual-credit
You could call and see what they offer, you dont need to commit.
Also:
"We’re making it clear that any increase to the monthly subscription price should trigger a consumer’s right to leave their contract – without penalty,"
"... details of a price rise on the envelope or in the email subject line - and telling them that they can cancel their contract."
BTW, where exactly do Ofcom state "You can ignore this rule as long as you mention RPI increases in your T&Cs" ?
FYI, the original "legal" comment was about something different entirely.
"For all new fixed contracts from 23 January 2014, you can exit without penalty for any price rise at all. This is unless you were told at the point of sale that the price would definitely be increasing."
Oh yeah didnt think about that, hope they dont put the prices up or remove the Free Gear VR for this day.
2) Does burying something in 100s of pages of legalese count as being "told at the point of sale" ? Somehow I doubt that!
3) Assuming your quote is correct, aren't Ofcom admitting that they haven't actually changed anything whatsoever?
2) Here you go:
3) If you read documentation provided in 1), this is not the case.
Hoping that I still get to qualify for the 0% on the samsung website as that is an offer not a standard procedure.
Also, read the below, looks legal to me:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/6275-clarification-of-ofcom-price-rise-guidance-rules.html
http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/consultations/gc9/statement/guidance.pdf
Anything is legal if you sign and agree to it beforehand (Most things )
Dangerous having a £3000 credit limit through PayPal though lol.
Will i be able to do Samsungs Upgrade plan one?
The offer running is an offer, so should change for the samsung offer when you go to pay I would assume.
What about people who already have paypal credit, are we saying the thousands who have are not entitled to go for this at 0%?
1) That document seems not contain your quote and seems to completely disagree with you:
2) That example does mention it at the POS but many others don't.
3) So, assuming you're correct, what have Ofcom supposedly changed?
It does seem that Ofcom completely failed unfortunately. They tried to do a great thing by stopping price increases in FIXED-PRICE contracts, but they ended up doing nothing sadly :disappointed:
Funny little boy, aren't you?
Sadly, most contracts seem to be legal without any signature or agreement :disappointed:
Maybe you should grow up a bit?
Signing up for some other completely different credit agreement is plain stupid.... as this would have resulted in a credit check and lessen the chances of further credit. I too am really interested in this deal but this thread has frankly become a bit silly... it's supposed to be about the phones, getting them cheaper, etc... but until the full details are published we just wont know.
Please can we keep this thread on topic now?
Here I am waiting to see if there are any other offers before doing the same as yourself and getting the S7 Edge...
Though in my defence, I do have an Amex 0% card for another 19 months or something. Nothing like leaving money for future me to worry about :smirk:
The argument about a credit agreement is completely different as that is for a loan agreement, phone charges are a variable that takes into account rising costs in the duration of the contract so can not be compared.
It says 17.9% APR Variable, meaning it can vary.
Meaning it could and should change, for samsung, for this deal.
Just when I bought some USB C certified expensive long cable as well
Is the Edge worth the premium over the S7 and is gold too blingy for an old bloke like me?
I'm 57 and definitely not gay and quite liked the gold one! Anyway is not really that gold!!
Re-read your comments, it is clear you are now backtracking on your statements as you have been proven wrong on many occasions in a single thread
I have put together a well thought through and informed point that disproves your theory, and you provide an insult
Is it really me who should "grow up"? Let's agree to leave this as is, no need to get out of control as I was simply recalling a few factual points to assist those who need it
I just can't see them saying "Oh btw you already have credit with us! You gotta pay extra!"
Promotional Offers
The following interest free promotional offers are available subject to status:
• a fixed rate of 0% or 14.9% p.a. on a purchase transaction for 6 months, 12 months, 18 months or 24 months (Promotional Purchase Offer)
• a fixed rate of 0% p.a. for 4 months on a purchase transaction over £150 (Conditional Purchase Offer) Please note that Transactions using your Credit Account under £150 are charged at 17.9 % APR (variable) or the current standard variable rate and Transactions under £150 are not part of the Conditional Purchase Offer.
When you're applying for PP Credit for this offer, the 0% will only be for the Samsung phone you're buying, not anything that is purchased through it. At least, this was the case for when I bought something from the Apple Store using this, but I would imagine it would be the same here.

For those dont see the paypal credit 0% option, you do need to click the paypal credit option first to next stage to the basket you shall see is £639 total
Black S7 Edge ordered. I chickened out on the gold.
Feels like this was a rip off and wasted time.
Free delivery. Expected 8th March.
Complimentary Gear VR.
It seems when you go to actually use it after selecting 12 months and logging in you get the following message
"We're sorry, but PayPal Credit isn't available for this purchase
But you do have options. To pay in full now, use the funding source selected, or choose another way to pay."
It seems like its only on bluebox sale items
No email confirmation or mention of the headset yet
But I bottled it and went for boring black instead of gold
Garbage offerings
Doubled up watches... WTF?
Cold
I've talked myself out of this deal for now...

Most people could pay for it in one, but if there's no charge to spread that over 6 months then why not?

and Quidco do £45 cashback as well
This makes the Galaxy S7 Edge £53.25 a month.
Too rich for me at moment.
I can see only the S6 black and white .
Spoke to Paypal you can payoff the balance at any time.
Cuation just ensure you keep up you minimum agreed payment.
My quidco tracked well above 1% as well, showing @ £26
32.26 here.
Anyone seeing the free GearVR in their order?
Pay around £25 a month for an S7+VR over 2 years but after 12 Months commit to a similar deal on the S8 and Samsung will pay balance of S7 cost.
However, and with this all in mind, given the lower monthly cost off the programme I'm willing to take the chance.
Anyone else with similar thoughts?
So is it not better to go for the 0% for 12 months?
I have gone for the upgrade option, s7 in black.
I have tried both S7 and S7 edge order and happy to pay 53 per month.
thanks
EDIT: Just checked and the S7 IS a better option for VR than the Edge (http://www.valuewalk.com/2016/02/galaxy-s7-better-than-s7-edge-vr/)
