For the geeks and extreme tight wads among us..

2 x $29.97 for 6 months in $ via a USA proxy and
then gift it.. £36-39 for the year and assume can be stacked
as extensions to any trial.. worth a try maybe???

I think it is better than both. Amazon Prime is the poor option by far but Spotify vs Google is a tougher call. But for me with a large catalogue of MP3's burned from my CD library, being able to upload these to the cloud and have access to them is great. I also prefer the album based approach in Google rather than the largely playlist focus of Spotify. yes, both can do the same as each other but Google was geared differently from the start.

Sound quality is on a par IMO but Spotify's desktop app is woefully slow and hugely frustrating. The desktop experience is enough to make me want so move away. And finally, the family options of google's offering is superior and cheaper.

That would be why, they were meant to be gifts, so you had to send it to another account. I'd cancel your current one and transfer it to a dedicated GPM account

I have received a message from our escalation team.

According to screenshot you have provided to me, you have had purchased the music subscription on the same account where the redemption code was redeemed. That is the reason why it never worked.

So vouchers can't be redeemed in another territory, you can however use play music without a vpn once registered. Best thing to do is apply them to the us account and switch your account on the app on your phone to that one. I'm seriously considering doing this to an Aussie account so I can use up my Telstra credit, 5 years free beats the £7.99 early member discount by miles

Years ago I bought US iTunes vouchers from a guy in Hong Kong on ebay. In those days the choice was far better on iTunes US and cheaper.
I ended up losing all my US iTunes purchases because I had two iTunes accounts I couldn't merge the two, a total nightmare. Luckily it wasn't a fortune but still about $150-$200 ish ouch.
When I read earlier about buying in dollars & VPN malarkey I thought NO NO, I've been there done that, never again.

Sorry I thought you were asking whether the code has an expiry date.
The expiry of the offer I mention in #134, I always find a date ambiguous (15/02/15) is that 23.59.59 14/02/16? I think probably, as I saw an ad and it mentions 'give your loved one a present of music' for valentines day.

If you manage to buy the $4.99 US version you'll find you can't apply it to a UK google account.

It's a massive faff. I had to VPN, set up new account, buy google US gift card and gift the subs. And then eventually told "This gift cannot be redeemed in your country. The person who sent you this gift should ask for a refund."

I'm not sure I fancy asking for a refund, I'd have a lot of 'splaining to do...

Hi
I was going ballistic registering 47 codes using up store credit (before google pulled the offer) so ended up in a world of my own.
Yes you get an e-mail and then click to redeem.
I can't see any reason why this voucher will last ad infinitum, checking all my e-mails the terms are here- https://play.google.com/intl/en_uk/about/gift-terms.html as mentioned very early on in this thread there is a generous 5 year or 60 maximum number of codes.
However that doesn't answer your query, I can't see any mention of expiry so they will last ad infinitum or as long as google last.

Hi
I think the 3 & 6 month prices were less early yesterday and then went up, Google would do better to remove the 3 and 6 month silly price and as you say change to £4.99/30/60 approx.
I'm fortunate in that I was an early adopter of Spotify & have tried Napster (the legal one!) and apple music. I find GPM the best.
I stacked a few hundred pounds of credit before Christmas with the Tesco 15% offer plus club card points offer, so I was very lucky. I bought 47 credits last night (which was a bit tedious with all the clicks, but I'm not complaining!!) at £4.99 but I'm all set now till Christmas Day 2019 and at around £4.00 a month prepaid for a class leading service, I'm tickled pink!

It's a really good deal but it's not for everyone as I suspect some prefer other services. It would be better if the 6 month package was £30 rather than having to buy multiple 1 month gifts. Not sure what Google were thinking? I'd rather pay upfront for a year than the normal monthly fee (especially if it's reduced).
deany76
13 Feb 16 1 #101
Hi, obviously avoid the 3 and 6 months.

I had this problem early last year. I wanted to pay my GPM with store credit and couldn't.
I now can but I had to change the method of payment from 'debit card' to 'play credit' I seem to remember this was done either via the google play account / subscriptions then change GPM payment method to 'store credit' or is it wallet.google.com?
I can be more specific if you struggle with my guide above.

Those using the USA site, can you stack these codes on to a British Google account? It's confusing as it says you can't but you are all buying USA. I have over $300 of Australian pay as you go credit so would love to stock up using that(you'd all love this deal that got me this) but don't want to lose my early sign up £7.99 subscription to move it to an Aussie account.

It's confusing once you've signed in with Google, you don't require a VPN at all. My UK account defaults to all UK based stuff on the play store despite being in Australia, to see Aussie stuff I had to make a new account.

Also the price here has been slash too, 1 month is $5.99 which is only £3 at the moment. There's a thread running on their equivalent of hukd

Took me a bit to catch on, but when I did.......
This is the most totally insane offer if you are a long term user of GPM, & insane anyway to be fair.
I stocked up just before Christmas with about £250 of credit with the 15% offer at Tesco thinking I was all set for a few years.
Little did I know that this offer would come along, now subscription runs out Christmas Day 2019!!!!! 47 credits.
It must work out at around £4 a month with my 15% Tesco credit & club card points bonus.
I do feel a tad greedy but THANK YOU so much OP you've saved me HUNDREDS. £235.00 to be precise,
This should be 10,000 degree! A brilliant service GPM especially with SONOS & iphone.
Thanks again, I hope the offer lasts all weekend for others to enjoy.

Just purchased and tried to redeem and it failed. But got a refund straight away so no biggie. I suppose us Family customers are already getting a good deal - up to 6 users for £15.
frakker to moremortstar

It is for individual accounts only. You can, however, get a refund if you buy a voucher and find you can't use it.

Could I start a month trial and use these later or is it start now as soon as I gift myself?

great deal. I was on the 3 month trail from Christmas. I gifted it to my email address I already used with Google, just clicked the redeem button on the email and now I'm sorted until late September! great find

What's another free email address between friends...
rpope
12 Feb 16 1 #49
No Problem, I get between £0.5 and £2.50 most weeks and average around £6 a month. Works best with location on as it asks about say your last visit to Tesco and star rating then gives 9p to 29p a time.
rpope
12 Feb 16 #28
Used up my balance from Google Rewards app and added just over £50 from paypal and have until 22/09/2017 tillnext bill.

Happy chappy here and that's 18 months of Google rewards to earn so will be a few more month sorted.
Moncymru to rpope

I had no idea about Google Rewards until reading this. SO now I've signed up and made 50p instantly. Thanks!

I'm a Google Music Family subscriber.... great service and my family (especially kids) would be lost without it. The immediacy of music is great although I still like having an actual CD in my hand.... (although it generally get's ripped immediately to MP3 and stored away).

Compared to other services the family package is excellent, compared to other services including family package in the US they get more for less but that's typical of most things I guess.
jj_jj
12 Feb 16 #45
maybe I misunderstood. I meant the deezer 3 months was not just for new customers. this is a pretty good deal, however if you combine the NUS extra card and get Spotify premium for equivalent of £6 per month if u prefer over Google. personally I'll wait for another 99p offer. As I'm only streaming I can chop and change provider :-)
crispymorgan
12 Feb 16 #44
does anyone know how long these are valid for? I'm not due to finish my 6 month free deezer subscription until may.
J0n35y
12 Feb 16 #43
To clarify a little - it wasn't for existing/current users which I think is the point originally made. Google have been generally pretty good with encouraging folks back to the service so returning customers have been able to take advantage unlike, generally, Spotify.
jj_jj
12 Feb 16 #42
nope, I did a free trial of deezer as a new user. then switched to Google play for a free month. then go the deezer 3 months for 99p, which I'm still on currently. It wasn't for new users only.
Nexusfifth
12 Feb 16 #39
And I presume you don't get the Google play music subscriber discount on these?

(So you can pay 5£ for 1 month and then get 10% off a 6 month one?)
w_orbit to Nexusfifth
12 Feb 16 #41
Even as a normal 9.99 a month subscriber I didn't receive 10% off on these

Google Play Music £29.97

Total: £29.97 (Includes VAT of £5.00)

Excellent - just bought 6 months.

I heard you can share a family plan and it only works out a few quid each per month. Can it be shared with people outside your family safely or do they get access to your details/payment methods?

I've got the same £7.99 pricing, and the wording gave me confidence that my normal subscription (i.e. £7.99) would continue after my voucher.

Don't forget that you can pay with gift vouchers, currently a saving of 10% from CDkeys. Roughly £4.50/month.

It hadn't occurred to me that could be a problem, but my account says "Monthly Subscription 7.99, Renews on such and such date" so looks like us early adopters should be ok.
JayDubya
12 Feb 16 1 #26
not the best offer - they were offering it for 99p recently and I think for 3 months. I'm currently with Deezer for 99p for 3 months (for the second time).

I signed up to Google play music at the start and have a reduced rate of £7.99p/m. Any idea if i'd still get the reduced rate after any gift subscription has been applied?

Thanks in advance
king_jim
12 Feb 16 #18
If I already have a subscription can I cancel and use this instead?
sampath to king_jim

No need to cancel, once you redeem the code it'll stop billing you until the credit runs out and start again afterwards.
Joshimitsu91
12 Feb 16 #22
That could be it, I never bothered adding my library since I wouldn't be able to access it from my phone. Currently I've got all 3 services on the go, I need to make up my mind
poorgolfer
12 Feb 16 #21
If you redeem the gift certificate it stacks on top of your free trial. My trial was due to expire in April, now I don't start to pay full price until October. I have 3 months on a new chromecast I bought last week and I expect that to stack on top too.
J0n35y
12 Feb 16 #20
True, no desktop app for music playback but there is a desktop app for uploading your music - well, more of a tool that points Google to your library location and uploads in the background.

What I will say though is that the browser experience is far superior to Spotify's browser experience. And I envy you your speedy Spotify desktop experience! I think the issue is around the size of my personal lilbrary which is linked. I think it tries to re-catalogue the library on each start up. It honestly takes minutes to search then start streaming a song.
Nozzinja
12 Feb 16 #19
If I start the 3 month trial today and purchase the 6 month subscription gift also can/should I wait to redeem it for myself?
Joshimitsu91
12 Feb 16 2 #17
Shame Google doesn't have a proper desktop app. Personally I don't find Spotifys to be slow. Looked at Google Play for the upload feature but no desktop app is a killer. Deezer doesn't have one either :disappointed:

This offer has finally convinced me to stop buying all my music and stream it all. Lots of music on there when you do subscribe. A year for 60 quid plus I took the free trial. I'll wait until that finishes and then redeem my gifts to myself haha!
