Decent deal, though to me being forced to pay for line rental is a waste, as it isn't needed with fibre optic broadband. No need for a landline phone for 99% of people anymore. Businesses a different story.

The talktalk deal of £27/month seems the closest equivalent, but 2mb upload speeds instead of 10mb

I replied to your original comment based on the fact you used Kbps instead of Mbps, which is why I got overly concerned over your throughput speeds.

40Mbps are more than enough for pretty much anything I can think of; from downloading movies, watching 1080p, downloading games and all that for £30 for a whole year? I'd say that's a DAMN good deal.

I got £100 M&S voucher and CONFIRMED £70.00 on Quidco (in November; contract was drawn in March 2016). £208.8 for a year - £173 ~ £30 for A YEAR'S worth of fibre. Just ridiculous value for money.

So far, 9 months into the contract and it's been amazing, 39mbps (~4.5 mb/s) off-peak times, 33mbps peak times, no disconnects or w/e. Seriously, that £70 off quidco I didn't think they'd confirm it but that feeling when I got the e-mail "Confirmed"

Some people accused me of bullsh*t here when I first suggested them to do the Quidco thing. £70 free in your face now guys.

I've signed up for a new contract & was offered 38mb fibre & pay as you go line for £27.40 a month. A few days after that call I got an email to say that I'll get an extra £10 off the line, it's all for 12 months (or the next line rental increase is). I'm pleased with the package all for £17.40 a month, but due to have fibre setup by next Monday, 25th!

well! what a rip off. Signed up no problem but they couldn't port my Virgin number over. They told me I would have to cancel the contract and start me on a new one to port the number but guaranteed I would not lose the free unlimited fibre deal. I had to start afresh and wait another two weeks for the installation date. After chasing them up to port my number over they told me they were still having trouble with the porting despite Virgin telling me there should be no problem, all they had to do was ask for the number. When they suggested another cancellation I told them just to give me the new number as they were too incompetent to port over. They then went through the contract with me and told me I would now be paying for unlimited fibre. So disgusted about the rip-off I cancelled. Thought better of it later and decided to rejoin and fight for the original deal and claim compensation.

OK. A call to Sky cust service and my SkyId issues are sorted. My account has been setup (with the free 12months fibre broadband) and should go live in a few days.

However, they "disconnected" the old order and put through a new one even though I have kept the exact same account number. I am convinced that somehow they're playing games with TCB as I think this means I'll lose my cashback. I'm only glad that I'm happy with the deal with/without cashback.

You need to talk to someone at Sky who can explain to you what's happened.

OpenREACH engineers come to your house, not Sky engineers or Open 'order'.

Ring SKy and ask them for a refund then choose unlimited broadband if you cant get fibre.
defeatsugar
3 Apr 16 #508
It's just my current isp talktalk rejected to transfer my line to sky because of open order. When the sky guy was talking about cancelling my order manually, i thought he was talking about cancelling the migration order from talktalk and reordering the line migration but no!!! Its my sky order which has been cancelled completely. How long will the refund process take place?
goldengirlz
3 Apr 16 #507
That happened to me.

I think you mean there's no Fibre broadband in your area, that's why OPENREACH can't connect your landline.

Borrow your neighbour's wifi if your old runs out before a new one starts.

I took out Unlimited Broadband instead, they still messed it x 18 mistakes and delays so i asked for Goodwill gesture and they gave me £105 back.

My broadband offer included £100 m&s vouchers with the package, they also sent me £50 extra voucher as i was without broadband for 2 weeks.

They refunded me the £25 too.

You can do that?

Plusnet are offering £140 cashback plus discounts over the contract e.g. £10/month off over first six months - downside is an 18 month contract . If you decide you want to leave upside is you can use your own router(when you order your service) and avoid a deferred equipment charge of £100(payable, pro rata, for any early contract termination), also early termination charges for the phone/broadband package are reasonable. I only mention that because BT use the odd deferred equipment charge trick to effectively lock customers into their contract.

For anyone wondering I've just managed to get this deal as a new customer by asking what their best price is for Sky Fibre Unlimited. £17.40 a month for line rental and the broadband is free. I did have to pay £20 for activation but that includes putting a BT line up to my house which seems quite reasonable to me. Apparently you can only upgrade to Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro over the phone once you are up and running, they did confirm it is available on my street and I will probably take them up on this once my line is up in two weeks time. In regards to using a third party router, surely you're better off just setting your own router up as an Access point and just connect everything up to that.
Tino_G to Zaim2012

Yup, setting up and access point seems like the way to go. Got an old BT Home Hub 4 which I'm going to try tonight.

OK thank you.

I'm still using my neighbour's wifi for free, been using it for 3 weeks since Sky connected my broadband wrong and left me internet-less for 3 weeks! its connected now and sky've given me £104 for the inconvenience so i'm only paying about £8 per month for unlimited broadband and line rental.
Tino_G
24 Mar 16 #473
It is technically possible to use a better router, and many people do. The annoying thing is that Sky do not allow 3rd party routers to be used with their service and make it difficult for you if you try. They hide your username and password needed to access the internet when using a different router (not your sky id). Anyone connecting their own router is breaking the T&C and runs the risk of being disconnected completely. I'm not sure how strict Sky are about this but they can easily check if you're using their router or not.

It's a bit of a mess and had I know this before signing up I might have held off. Regardless this is still a cracking deal for the money, and if you're in a small flat this should work perfectly.
goldengirlz
24 Mar 16 #472
Thank you for that info.

i know nothing about routers.

Is it possible to replace it with a 'better' router??
Tino_G
24 Mar 16 #470
On the face of it this a good deal. I even ordered it and just had it installed last week. What people should be aware of is the seriously poor router that Sky provide you. I'm in a house with 2 floors and the router can barely provide a decent signal to the top floor. Done some research on this and it's become crystal clear that the Sky Hub actually limits the performance of your line. My line is getting 39Mb/s but the Sky Hub is only able to give me 20Mb d/l because their wifi signals are so weak and old technology (not dual band). If you live in a small flat this could probably be overlooked but anyone living somewhere with more than one floor beware. Considering ditching Sky as I'm still within the 30 days notice period.

Just to update:

Sky made 16 different mistakes on my account when I tried to take out Fibre Broadband, 3 weeks ago, with this offer.

It has been stressful, inconvenience and a rubbish experience.

eg The Openreach engineer came to install my broadband in my flat but didn't check it and went away having NOT installed it correctly!!

I was without landline and broadband for 2 weeks thanks to SKy's delays as my previous contract ended with Plusnet.

Spend hours on the phone chasing SKy.

Finally Ive got the Unlimited Broadband (there's no fibre in my area) its up and running after 3 weeks of stress and mistakes.

Ive been offered a Gesture of Goodwill of £104 (they're offering to pay 50% of my Sky package for 1 year - for 16 mistakes).

What does everyone think of this gesture? They've already given me £50 m&s vouchers and £20 for a dongle.

(I've also got the £100 m&s voucher with the deal).

Do you think i should escalate the complaint and ask for more or bow out now and put a line under it?

opinions please thanks!

I'm fed up now. Third try resulted in a new number - my mistake, I think.

Number port failed on two occasions, old provider says no reason for landline number failing to migrate, Sky say let them try over the phone. I wonder if it has anything to do with going thru topcashback site etc....

Might try quidco and see if I can keep my number otherwise have to decide if the cashback is worth the hassle of keeping my number.

How is people getting £100 vouchers on top of this, is that through TCB/Quidco? which isn't guaranteed?
hukdplan to MRR_ltd
21 Mar 16 1 #448
They aren't, if you use 5KYMOVE you get free broadband and pay for rental - if you save the order in your basket and mail it to yourself you can use the reference in the e-mail to continue the order by phone in order to get £100 early termination compensation.

One person has posted they managed to combine the 5KYMOVE package with the other package that includes £100 M&S vouchers and that can be used to claim cashback - I can't get this to work and nobody else has posted it works, and it makes no sense that Sky would be stupid enough to allow a discount code to be used against the wrong package - the person who posted has not responded to a PM(days ago) asking why their post doesn't work..

Make of that what you will, if you actually get the voucher/cashback/5KYMOVE to work - post confirmation.

4.5MB?
hukdplan
21 Mar 16 #450
OK, so let's see where I'm going wrong and perhaps it can help other people here -

Use an ad-block and pop-up block -free browser.
1. Click "GET DEAL" at this site. Enter code on Sky.
2. Leave Sky site.
3. Go to Quidco, find the Sky broadband deals.
4. Select the broadband deal you want (the ones for £10/6-months) and the £100 M&S voucher.
5. Click and wait for the Sky link to load.
7. Proceed with your order, you will notice that both of the offers have been implemented.
8.??
9. Profit.

So I start up an Incognito browser(no ad-block/pop-up stopper), go to the offer code page, enter 5KYMOVE, open a new tab, go to Quidco - select the M&S offer, Sky opens - select M&S offer ... then I look in my basket and instead of the M&S offer I see the standard 5KYMOVE offer and no M&S voucher - like the screenshot at post #436.

So what am I missing in your instructions?

EDIT:

Nope, when Sky see you've used 5KYMOVE a M&S package that is put in the basket is converted to the standard 12 month line rental only package(no vouchers) - your instructions either need clarifying, only worked for you, or never worked - not one other person has confirmed them.

This was the first order that "failed" because of number porting issues.

Your not on your own. I was originally with sky broadband and tel for many years, Ported over to Virgin then enquired about returning to Sky. Sky keep informing me that I cant port my telephone number back even tho it was with them previously. Virgin say it's Sky being awkward, BT have no issues transferring the number if I went with them but Sky still insist there's an issue with the number port. In end stuck with Virgin even tho I don't rate there fibre.

I followed the advice of another HUKD member (scroll back up) who said that you should tell them on the phone that the code means that I dont need to pay for line installation. He didn't take any convincing (although I was fully psyched up to haggle and charm!) and just waived it.

MRR_ltd
16 Mar 16 #411
Hmm. I ordered over live chat and stupidly opted for the option which prompts you NOT to keep your existing number. I was following the instructions given over live chat, who said this'll be taken care of by their their special Switch Team and not to worry. D'oh! And here I was thinking perhaps upon arrival of engineers they'd sort this out. To realise that no engineers came, and it was just the case of self-installing. I called up enquiring about this, which ended up turning into an argument. The person I spoke to told me this was too late, as the switch was already complete and lines live - this was ONE DAY after activation. Anyways I complained saying I was misguided and wanted compensation (lol) and they agreed to send me out £20 Tesco coupon through email within 5 working days (waiting on that now).

But still.... I would've preferred to keep my existing number, because I had that for a considerable amount of time, which I memorised and everything! Oh well. Hassle giving it out all again though.

Their customer service can be a joke at times. Recently tried to call and I have been hang up on, or kept on hold for some time - then transferred onto another agent.

What conclusion did you come to regarding BT termination charges? I'm on Infinity 1 with slightly longer left on my 12 month contract than you, but this deal still works well for me with the normal termination charges for Infinity and calls.

However, it breaks down when I add in BT deferred equipment payment charges for my cheap crappy BT YouView box and the Home Hub 5. They value the YouView box at £99 times the percentage left on the 12 month contract, and the Home Hub 5 at £65 no matter how far you are through the contract.

Is there any way to get rid of these deferred equipment charges? Can you simply return the equipment to BT?

I've just signed up to this Sky deal after my BT Infinity1 contract ended today;
Called BT and tried haggling a renewal but got no where half decent - customer brand loyalty does it exist these days?
Apologies if I've repeated any of the previous comments.
In the T&C's, its an 18 month contract at £17.40 pm line rental with 12 month discounted fibre broadband for the first 12 months, a one-off £6.95 for the router delivery and one-off refundable £5 initial payment. So, if my maths are correct - ignoring the one-off - thats £6.67pm over the 18m period. I linked through via aQuidco offer initially and entered the 5KYNEW code and I've just had a £70 cashback confirmation from Quidco (payment 27/07 -heres hoping it pays out!) but that would bring the deal down to £2.78pm.

Does anyone know the policy on BT's Vision+ PVR, is it a good idea to disconnect it now and wait for the new BB provider to keep it all functioning post BT contract?

I've had a TERRIBLE experience so far with SKy with this fibre broadband package. (not blaming you Op).

My contract with Plusnet ended recently so first I bought SKy's Unlimited Broadband (& free £100 M&S vouchers) for £17.40/month. Then i saw this offer on here and i rang Sky and cancelled the normal broadband and signed up online for the Fibre broadband.

You type in your address and it tells you there's fibre in your area.

The engineer was supposed to come last Friday but i was told there's a problem with my landline. Then I rang for the 5th time to chase and was told he'll come this Friday and I'll change my landline number.

My internet got cut off from Plusnet on Monday so I've had no internet, wi-fi or landline since then.

I called SKy again and they confirmed the engineer's coming on Friday. When i asked if he could come sooner as its urgent, i was put through to the Order Recovery Dept who said my application has been REJECTED.

In fact there's NO fibre in my area and even if there is, you can only have so many households using it. After 2 hours on the phone, he said he has to CANCEL my Unlimited Fibre Package and put me back on the Package that does serve my house - the Unlimited Broadband - which i originally took out 3 weeks ago before I cancelled it for this one. That's going to take another 2 weeks to process.

As a 'gesture' he's helping me out with a dongle by sending me a voucher for £20 for m&s or tescos; and I have to pay £20 in cash in a phone shop to buy a suitable dongle for my area. Then i'll have broadband temporarily. I need to get 2 buses to get to my nearest phone shops - very inconvenient.

He also told me there's been a catalogue of errors on my account as the idiot who cancelled my original package shouldn't have, as he should have checked whether or not I can get fibre broadband in my area. Since I spoke to this boy who put me on Fibre broadband, I've spoken to 8 other idiots including 2 Line Managers; NONE of whom checked if fibre broadband serves my house .

If they did, I wouldn't be internet-less and still waiting for the engineer to install fibre broadband 2 weeks after the activation date.

SKy didn't contact me at all, i happened to chase them and 1 boy accidentally found it after being the 9th person i queried it with.

Exausting and stressful experience.

I'm borrowing my neighbour's wifi luckily and i'll buy a big fat chocolate birthday cake from m&s for £20 to gorge on to make me feel less stressed. lol (sob sob).

I am v assertive and the last man i spoke to dictated a list of 10 different Faults on my account notes with 10 different advisors including Managers, stating incorrect information and not checking for fibre in my area, so I am going to escalate this complaint as high as I can and maybe go through the Ombudsman if I have to, to get a gesture of goodwill for all the unnecessary stress and inconvenience I've been through.

Gonna ask them for a Gesture of Goodwill of over £208.80 to cover the 1 year's broadband I am getting from them.

I need a bear hug please thanks.

Just to add my recent experience.
I have been trying to find the best of the best TV+Broadband+Phone Line deal for about three weeks. Based on my research i can happily conclude that this deal is one of the best in the market at the moment. I could not find this link (http://www.sky.com/shop/offers/proposition/5KYMOVE) anywhere on sky website. I spoke with an agent over the phone, the deal she gave me was no where near as good as this one. I tried the 50% sky TV deal for virgin media customer and that came up £67.90 for 6 months and then £77.90. For about a week that was the best deal for me but i wasn't really sure should i go ahead with it or not. Then i thought what about referring a friend scheme, i asked my friend to refer me, he did, i used that link but that was way too expensive all the up front costs and the only advantage was £125 master card voucher was not even worth considering; so get this out of the way; then i thought hang on a minute lets try and use this referral scheme in conjunction with sky 50% deal; rather them giving sky a call i clicked on the chat window; the guy mentioned i have got a better deal than this and that was, (which i was originally after anyway at first place)
Sky Complete Bundle with HD Pack which shows up as family + Sky Sports (all 7 Channel) + Sky Movies (all 11 Channels) + Sky+HD Pack + Sky Fiber unlimited (40Mbps) + Active line takeover + Sky Go + all apps (WIFI, services etc) with £10 installation fee and £6.95 hub delivery charges added into the first bill. all for £55.27 per months for 12 months (prices can go up etc). After running some numbers am saving good over £200 compare to their using friends referral scheme, 50% sky tv deal with fastest unlimited broadband.. So guys go for it as long as its available; based on my experience the online chat guys normally have the best deals as compare to BT. Did'nt compare Sky and BT with virgin as virgin isn't available in my new area. Hope you find this comment useful and am keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well and there won't be no surprises...... good luck!!!!

The Virgin deal is 50MB, so it isn't much faster. I've had virgin and bt based providers. Even though virgin had the fastest speed test results, it did keep buffering watching films, where BT has never. It amazes me the amount of people who payout for 200MB virgin, when they don't need it. 37MB allows me to stream 3 HD films at once, with plenty of bandwidth for surfing. Unless you're into 4k streaming or are a hardcore downloader, Sky speed is more than adequate. Also the installation should be free, not £20. As for BT, be prepared to be screwed, I've had 3 big price rises in the last 12 months. I could have left, but you only have 30 days to after receiving notification, that always seems to end up in your spam box. They recontracted me without my authorisation and now say I owe them £200, having loads of hassle to prove I didn't authorise it!

Took half a day off work and the engineer didn't show up. I originally took the Plan out online and chose a date online. Rang Sky who said there's a problem with my BT landline, but when i looked online it stated that the Engineers are delayed (ie with everyone). They've changed my installation date to next Friday and told me the online date you choose isn't a Definite date that's booked with the engineer and they can change it at any time. Apparently the Engineer might not have to come in my house as he'll be working at the nearest Something station or other but she said its best i take more time off work to be home next time in case he needs to come in. They check the line first at their end. None of it makes sense to me, and all the different Sky idiots....i mean Advisors tell me different stories and hence contradict eachother. Who to believe? Sky is a MESS! But at least they provide cheap fibre broadband lol.

Looks like Sky have decided to get a bit fighty now they've lost lots of custom to the likes of BT.

I'd be happy to return to their fibre service, but I had to switch previously because the BT deal worked out so incredibly cheap (£7.83 a month for 38mb fibre/line rental with weekend eve calls/1GB 4G SIMO).

The only thing I didn't like with Sky was that they used to provide a poor router. I think that's probably changing with the advent of Sky Q.

I just clicked through TCB to get to the sky site then entered the code in the "basket". It obviously tracked to the site that I had made a purchase, I dont hold much faith in it becoming payable but for the sake of trying it does no harm. I always try it this way with any website, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but as cashback is never a definite it definitely is worth trying. Hope it helps someone out there.

I ended our Sky services late last March, so it's nearly year ago. They were held in my name and with my bank details.

Is it definitely true that Sky would consider my wife's name and bank details to be a new customer, even though she'd be buying services for a house and phone number that they served within the past 12 months?

Pay As You Talk doesn't include any inclusive minutes, you just pay for the calls you make. They used to allow you to pay for the years line rental to save money a few years back, but at the moment they don't, I know because I rang them on Sunday to cancel my TV and broadband package and asked if I could pay upfront to save money but was told no.

I think we almost have same situation with few user here. My plusnet bb contract ended on mid April as well.
Actually Sky will inform plusnet that we're switching to them, but I called plusnet again to check how much is my cancellation fee. I'm on the normal bb. Plusnet inform me that I will lost my last month line rental saver + I need to pay £8 cancellation fee. They couldn't offer better deal than Sky. I informed plusnet that Sky giving me 12 month contract free fibre broadband, that I only need to pay line rental. Which the advisor could not find on the Sky website. Hopefull sky will delay the activation so I will not to pay cancellation fee.

For those who asking about activation fee, I can confirmed that it's free for me.
Don't forget to select 12 month unlimited fibre selection.

Monthly cost
Sky Fibre Unlimited Free
(12 Months Free Fibre Unlimited)
Sky Talk Pay As You Talk Free
Sky Line Rental £17.40
-------------
One off cost
Sky Hub Free
Fibre activation Free

Added to firs/next bill
Broadband Hardware Delivery £6.95
--------------
Upfront payment for verification £5 --- this will be credited to your account.

From normal BB to fibre, I might could not go back to normal BB again in 12 months time. It's a trap :stuck_out_tongue:

Was going to do this deal but then Plusnet called me back and offered me the free fibre unlimited for 12 months £14.99 after for the remainder 6 months as on a 18 month contract.... Also took there line rental saver option which is £185 a year (equivalent to £15.41 a month.... Got sent out the new hub one router free which is basically the BT homehub 5 just different casing...... I was told that if I would have taken the sky deal then there would be a £30 ceasation charge as sky are not part of BT wholesale so saved on that too.....Adding up all the savings prob works out the same without having the hassle of changing over so am happy with what they offered and I have never had any problems with Plusnet have been with them for about 7 years.

I put in the order to migrate from Plusnet ADSL (line and BB) to Sky FTTC (line and BB)on Saturday. We're out of contract, but I worry we'll have to pay £30 cessation as Sky isn't part of the BT Wholesale network.

Can anyone confirm? Also is this definitely just a 12 month contract for the FTTC -as their normal charge of £37 all in for 40/10 FTTC is very expensive.

I took this deal, still have about one month left (April) with plusnet. I just need to pay £8 cancellation fee (normal BB not a fibre), and losing the last month line rental saver if Sky activated it early before my contract ended. No cessation fee from plusnet to sky. Still under BT wholesale network. I chat with sky advisor to confirm this. I didn't want to loose this deal because I couldn't find any other cheaper fibre broadband than this offer.

I called Plusnet and checked with on the cancellation charges if I leave them before the end of the contract in May. They mentioned to me that I have to pay cancellation and cessation fees if I migrate to Sky.

Anybody knows whether cessation fee (£30) is generally applicable for the migration to BB providers other than virgin BB?

Is there any option in the sky sign up page to choose the date for the migration?
techsearchuk to happydeals
27 Feb 16 #174
I don't think the cessation fee would be payable... it's only if you go to someone like Virgin on ADSL rather than migration to another provider like Sky. I'd imagine you would just have to buy out the remainder of your Plusnet contract. I'm in a similar position and have 4 months left to run on mine but now thinking of buying out of it.
be2st to happydeals
29 Feb 16 #294
Cessation charges information:
http://portal.plus.net/support/customer_service/billing/cessation_charges.shtml
Generally, the main reasons for broadband ceases are:
A broadband account is cancelled (without switching providers)
Switching to a service that is not supplied via the BT Wholesale network
The telephone line used to provide broadband is cut off

I chat with the advisor last night, you can choose the later date, but there is an extra fee for the installation fee. They can guide you with this.

Until Sky and BT get their act together and break past the 100mb/s barrier they can do one. I've had major issues with virgin over the past 12 months but they finally fixed the issue in the area, and upped my speed to 200mb/s. Now I can download all my 4k porn in seconds. Seriously, virgin need someone to start challenging them for speed though, large households really don't have any other option.

preecey to Deeco
29 Feb 16 1 #292
While Virgin's speeds can be a lot faster, neither can be technically called true fibre optic Internet.

The reason being is that with BT FTTC fibre is only delivered up to the green cabinet in your area, beyond that and it's standard twisted copper (or aluminium cladded) cabling.

Similar story with Virgin. Fibre is delivered up to their head ends, with copper coaxial cable running from the head end to your house.

Quick update. I'm an existing Sky TV subscriber and although I got told last night on the on line chat that deal is only applicable to new sky customers I phoned sky this morning on 0344 241 4141. I used the phrases new customer and sky fibre and when the automated message asked if I had sky tv already I said no. I was then put through to a broadband sales guy who I gave the 5kymove code to. He could see the code and asked if I had sky TV already. This time I said yes. He said no worries as he would just set me up as a new direct debit customer for fibre. Went through the process over the phone and I should receive my new router and be switched over in 14days. Free for 12 months unlimited. Just had to pay £6.95 delivery and £5 for card. Just to confuse matters, I applied online and it says that my phone number will stay the same.
It seems to depend on who your existing phone provider is:

"To transfer an existing phone number to a new Sky phone line you'll need to let us know your existing phone number and the name of your existing phone provider when placing your order. Don't cancel your phone service with your existing provider as we may not be able to transfer your existing number."

Quidco are currently offering £140 cashback on Virgin Superfibre 50. Which over the course of 12 months would equal to about £18 per month if you pay for line rental for the 12 months up front equaling to £184. Would this be a better deal ?

Save yourself all the hassle and avoid sky at all costs if you care about reliable and fast broadband. I've gone for one of sky fibre deals previously posted on this site and I regret getting it. Spent 2 months talking to customer service to get at least 30mb/s out of that promised 40.

The crazy thing is that you can actually just sign up for the fibre deal without taking out the tv deals as a new customer but if you already have a sky tv deal then you are considered an existing customer in fibre terms even though you've never had fibre with them before.

The standard offer for Sky Unlimited fibre seems to be 6 months so shouldn't be too hard to get 12 months from them.

I am on "normal" unlimited broadband , currently free, and despite the fact that on my offers page it says I can get unlimited fibre for £10 p/month it is not available in my area.

People who do marketing don't do themselves any favours. VM are worse in this respect.

If you're having router issues then just use a merlin modified Asus AC66U. I do and it works great. You'll need to packet sniff your user/pass key from the sky router and then just insert it into the custom firmware of the Asus router.

This is due to a well know issue with the sky VDSL black routers (google SR102) which is the mode number of the router. It's poorly designed with no shielding so the power supply built in interrupts with the wireless signals.
Not to mention the routers for fibre are also single band so only 2.4GHZ not 2.4 + 5GHZ like the VM routers.
for 11 months i have been complaining why do i get 8mb wireless on the router and not the same 38mb i get when a device is connected via ethernet.

Full diagnostics, changing wireless channel, moving router location and even a brand new router the issue is the same even when in the same room 1m from the router.

Bought a router with mer support and installed that (d9980 if anyone is interested) then got full 38mb wireless speed. Please google before you buy the sky fibre wireless to see all the customer complaints around wireless and not hitting full speeds. Sky forums simply ignore the questions and brush them off.

I've even requested a sky q router as they have the same functionality of vm router including dual band but unless you buy sky q you can't get one.

I can and have literally downloaded anything I wanted on Sky Fibre. I managed to get get half price deal again last year on renewal. This is an 18 Month contract, if you proceed with the order it tells you in the fine print:

stuartbaker80 to monkeyhanger75
26 Feb 16 1 #22
You don't need need fibre to your house for this product. It's FTTC based, the fibre part is to the green BT box in or around your street. The last few hundred metres is copper. If the green box has been connected by Openreach then there's a good chance any standard BT lime will get FTTC. FTTP (fibre to your door) is a long way off being commercially viable from Openreach.
haritori to monkeyhanger75
27 Feb 16 #60
Fibre wasn't provided by Telewest, Fibre is installed by Openreach and only recently so to the green box, the remaining legnth is twisted copper to your home,

Sky is over BT/Openreach But Telewest, Virgin, NTL, Cable & Wireless have nothing to do with this offer or your ability to get fibre.
eelam to monkeyhanger75
27 Feb 16 1 #181
Sky Fibre is a different setup to Virgin's Fibre OPTIC cabling. They sound similar but Sky's Fibre, like BT's and a few others runs across a new type of fibre cable they have outlayed separately, then across regular phone lines nearer your house. There's every chance you qualify for this so do check

I'm currently with Virgin and get 200mbps broadband for £30.00 per month - I'm not sure if Sky offers such speeds (they didn't last time I checked). Thanks to the license, I watch BBC channels predominantly, which are available in HD from countless sources. TV subscriptions were dropped soon after discovering 99% of them were utter tripe; Psychic's, Crime Investigations, Nazi's, Aliens, Psychic Alien Nazi's and all manner of supernatural gobbledegook programming that should come with Mental Health Warnings. SyfyHD is the only channel I'll miss, although most of their better stuff gets aired on one or another of the FreeView channels within a few months of showing in the USA. Telecoms is handled by VoIP for £25.00 a year (all calls). Much as I have disliked Branson since knowing him personally decades ago, I'd sooner line his pockets than those of the slimey Murdoch's.

27 Feb 16 #152
I'm an existing customer for the TV service from Sky and they refused to offer me any kind of deal on the fibre, full price and a 12 month contract.

Shame as well, this deal would have been perfect to get away from Plusnets **** poor service.

Out of interest, anyone know the upload speeds on Sky fibre products?
MacPhisto to pimpMe
27 Feb 16 #155
I'm on the 40 meg package with Sky and get about 37.5 down and 9.5 up using speedtest.net and I'm a fair distance away from the fibre cabinet, or at least the one that looks like a fibre cabinet, there is a closer cabinet but it's been there for years.

27 Feb 16 #151
Isnt this an 18m contract? All fibre contracts are 18m contracts apparently. So you pay £20 + £17.50 line rental for the last 6 months therefore making the deal alot worse than it actually is.

27 Feb 16 #150
I think this is for new customer and I'm the existing customer I'm paying £17.40 a month for 12 months free Internet but that's not fiber. Any one has information about existing customers can get this offer or no?

Could someone explain to me who's been thru this process before. I'm currently on plusnet fibre and I pay around 35 month for landline and broadband (unlimited fibre). This is out of contract but I work in IT and can't afford even single day without an internet at my apartment. If I contact SKY and sign up for this will they deal with plusnet on my behalf and guarante that there will be no loss of service when transfering? Or am I looking on few days without it ? What's the best method to get this done? Thx

One thing that annoys me about sky is the fact that you have to pay to ring them even if it's their fault, or you want to buy something from them. It night seem a small thing but it really puts me off. Perhaps because of all the time i spend on the phone complaining to virgin - at least it's free :-)

Sky Fibre + Line Rental = £17.40

Thinking of taking out the Family Bundle TV Package as well (£18). £17.40 + £18 = £35.40 per month...

There's a £10 installation fee + £6.95 router

This is all done using the 5KYMOVE code online... You think I will be able to get a better offer/get installation free if I called/lived chat? thanks

27 Feb 16 #136
Been on to them three times today and been refused this Fibre deal each time, best they will do is the ADSL Unlimited for free or 6momths half price fibre. We re-contracted for TV only just 2 days ago at 50% off (but always had the Broadband and Line with TalkTalk) but as a result of having a to account, the code won't work online either despite me trying to switch! As a new customer, i was thinking of taking out the Free Sky Unlimited (Normal ) broadband and line rental for £17.40/month for 1 year plan. They chuck in £100 M&S voucher with it. What's should i do, do you think? - go for the Fibre broadband, or for the slower broadband with an extra £100 m&s voucher? help!
shasvat to goldengirlz
27 Feb 16 #117
It depends on what you use Internet for and what's the minimum and maximum speed they can offer in your area. I use Internet for streaming/downloads so fibre is better for me.
markey1800 to goldengirlz
27 Feb 16 1 #120
I would say better to go with the Fibre Broadband rather than opting for £100 M&S as you will get more from the Broadband than spending £100 vouchers for over rated and overpriced stuff.

Hey can I ask where you found this deal? I can see the free normal broadband offer, but no mention of the £100 M&S voucher.

26 Feb 16 #24
Sky uses BT's infrastructure. It's fibre optic up to the green box in the street and then copper wire to your house. So the speed you get depends on the distance from the green box to your house. Their signal is usually very stable as they connect a maximum of 20 houses per terminal whereas talk talk for example connect way more. I'm currently tied into SSE for 2yrs for about £20 pm or I would have switched to this. Good deal. Heated.
vimbo to Raz186
27 Feb 16 #128
I have fibre to the house. The BT engineer changed my phone line to fibre as well. I have had BT infinity 2 for 2 years, no issues with the BB at all. When I try to talk to sky, they say I have no fibre in my street, even though I tell them I am speaking to them on a fibre phone line. Therefore I can't get sky because I don't have fibre, even though i do !!!!

I had the old Sky broadband, but was quite away from the exchange so was only getting 3.5 meg, moved to Sky fibre and using speedtest.net getting 37.5 meg d/l and 9.5 meg u/l, and from what I can tell the cabinet for fibre is quite a distance away from my house.

Coming to the end of my 2nd year, so will be contacting them in the next couple of days to see what they can sort out for me, or I'll move to Virgin and get 100 meg for £23.45 p/m deal through work (using the pay 12 month line rental upfront option).

I was with Virgin for nearly 3 years and their prices just kept going up and their internet service was getting worse. I called Sky and have just had it installed for £27.40 per month. This was for Phone line £17.40, Sky Fibre Unlimited free for 12 months £0 instead of £20 and Sky TV Original half price 12 months £10 instead of £20 This is a 12 month contract and it will go up to normal price after this time.

No, with Virgin Media you don't HAVE to have a phone line, they have fibre to your house so you can take broadband only if you wish (although it's expensive!). This offer is fibre to the exchange rather than your house, so you still need a phone line to connect to the exchange.

No, you can buy Virgin Media Broadband without line rental. There isn't a lot of difference in the price but still better than paying extra for something that you don't use.

The 70mb Broadband only package I'm on is £30.25 a month, but that fits our needs really well for 4K streaming etc.

Virgin wanted to rise the prices in a couple of months after I joined them, also had terrible signal at 100mbps probably router fault. As u are aloud to cancel if they want to hike prices up within contract called them up they sent out a new router put speed up to 150 Mbps and lowered the price from £35 to £20 all including broadband and phone. Happy at the moment wanted to change to sky as well before

Same thing happened to me. If your speed is down it is due to router fault so they send you a new one and give money off before they put price up

There's no such thing as unlimited and no throttling. to use an analogy the Internet superhighway is like the normal highway. capacity issues. At peak times more cars on the road means slower traffic. so suspect that you've either not noticed you've been throttled or you've not been on the Internet at the busiest periods

Installation : £20.00 (The live chat said £20, but not sure if/when this gets charged)
Card verification: £5.00 (£5 credit put on 1st bill)
