No it doesn't matter-it runs crap on even high-end machines.

But there are varying degrees of crap.

More than there was, it's up to early Elite beta stages with an actual bit of space to fly around in what they call the baby persistent universe. Basically the first chunk of the game they are going to pack out features with, but no cargo yet and the items system that will make everything more interactive isn't in yet. They are set to really start dumping content into it though, so expect it to start growing out quick even more so than Elite did. I will say though it's a lot more beautiful than Elite, and it's actually more fun being able to walk around inside ships and stations and even shoot at each other. Unlike Elite it's not a game to play while watching a movie or reading a book, and I don't think it ever will be as it's full of a lot of little details and it's actually got a nice engaging story to it.

I've been out of Elite since beta as when it went to a whole galaxy it actually sucked out what little fun their was. However I might pick up Horizons at this price to get the landings and rovers etc. even if I might not play it for a while.

fed up with elite. missions were such an afterthought. all I was doing were trading runs. gave up.

I got a good PC and sc was still running like crap :stuck_out_tongue:. just not optimised yet. although I only played the tutorial so far.

This is a really good game, I paid full price, it is now a bargain for new comers...

Bought full price on release. Played once lol. Wish I had the time :disappointed:. May buy the expansion so I can have another part I don't play...

Yeah I saw that when they first released it, the longer version on the live stream is great to. Little ways off from it though unless they change the release schedule a bit or temporarily relocate Nyx to Stanton.

Wow, it took almost a year for Elite: Dangerous to go on sale. The expansion has lasted all of 2 months! Can't be selling that we'll - not surprising given all the controversy/bad press surrounding it. Still tempted at this price though - already have the base game and might actually play it more with the additional content!

EDIT - Has the retail price dropped as well? Was surprised when I saw it was £20 after only a 20% discount - sure it was more like £30-40 upon release.

Got star citizen on an AMD reward ages ago. Had a little play but couldn't even get in the ship.

Gutted I ploughed £35 into Elite D from launch. Hardly played it as its boring as hell. Jump here, jump there Zzzzzzzzz.

And on the store page for Elite: Dangerous, Horizons is listed as DLC. There is the Deluxe Edition - a package which includes both - but as that's not on sale it works out cheaper to buy them separately.

Oh wow, they actually listened to their players!!! Last I looked, you couldn't buy the DLC, and only had the option of buying the full game again for £39.99 with a £10 discount for previous owners (£29.99).

No, that was never the case - it was always separate. Anyone who owns the base game gets £10 off Horizons, and the base game was reduced to £10 when Horizons launched, so anyone who didn't already own could buy it first and get the discount.

No, you're definitely mistaken on that one. The "Deluxe Edition" as they have now, was what Horizons was originally. There was no DLC. Horizons was a stand alone game, released for £40, and sold for £30 to those that already owned Elite Dangerous.

Don't believe me, read the negative reviews for Horizons, and also check out their post on the community. They confirm that they had 2 separate products and have now set it up as DLC.

People aren't happy. I've been a Elite Dangerous player since beta, and I was one of those furious when I found out that newcomers got Horizons for what I paid, which included the base game and the season 1 pass.

They reduced the base game to £9.99, and people were furious as they didn't realise that they would have to shell out another £30 to get Horizons. So many bad reviews.

Plus, one month prior to this, ED was on sale for £19.99.

EDIT - although, reading your comment back... it seems I may not have been clear. 1 month ago, Elite Dangerous was the stand alone original product. Horizons was Elite Dangerous + Season 1 pass. You could buy the separately, yes... but if you bought Elite Dangerous and wanted the Season 1 pass, you'd have to buy Horizons, which included the original. So it's like buying the original game twice.

I loved the original Elite - and considered Dangerous - but when the Millionaire David Braben wouldn't fund the creation of his own game it made me vow to never to buy it on principle.

Well Horizons was announced as DLC/expansion/season pass, it of course it was never going to be available totally separately because it's not standalone.

The confusing part is the way they released it on Steam as a single package including the base game, which they have now changed (as of 2 days ago) to make them separate, like most other games. You're right, buying Horizons at launch was technically like buying the base game again, but because of the discount for existing players it's not as if anyone actually paid for the base game twice - and even with the new Steam packages the pricing structure is basically the same.

But yes, the controversy mostly came from the high price of Horizons - an expansion the price of the base game is unheard of! It should have been £20, not £40. The £10 loyalty discount was a nice touch that turned into an insult when they reduced the base game to £10 - effectively giving it away for free when combined with the discount. So to get Horizons existing players would have paid a total of £70 but new players only paid £40. You could argue that existing players have had up to an extra year of use out of the game but the pricing is still ridiculous - I bought it at launch and do feel a bit ripped off.

But, pricing aside, the controversy and mixed reviews have come from the fact that many features in Horizons, such as planetary landings, are things that were promised for Elite: Dangerous from the beginning and so were expected to be added to the game as free updates, like other features such as 'Wings' were. So the announcement of any paid DLC at all was unexpected and viewed by many as unfair .

35 quid is all you need to spend. For that you get the MP and SP games ( but they will be split in a week or so.)

Errrr they wanted just over a Million (£1,250,000) so it could of been funded by Braben without begging on Kickstarter. If he went on Dragons Den and asked for funding (when he could fund it himself) he would of been told to F off. Not funding it himself shows that he didn't have the faith in the game to make money and he didn't want to risk losing his own personal fortune.

I don't think you can blame him for this. It's a fairly niche 'old skool' game in an era when die, respawn, die, respawn is what people expect. He had the faith to invest his time and effort when there was no financial need for him to do so. I think that's a big enough commitment if you ask me.
