Usually when I move into a new place, I fit a wooden seat to the toilet. Ahhh, you can't beat it for the warmth...the comfort...the solidity!

Medically speaking, squatting is the preferred method for defecating rather than sitting on a toilet seat, as it relaxes the muscles and fully opens the colon in a way that allows complete and total excretion. Sitting down on a toilet seat actually partially blocks the colon, makes muscles work harder than they should and means that not all faeces can be completely removed.
