Smooth and detailed picture
Whatever you watch, the LG 49LF630V offers a highly engaging picture. The LED backlighting offers deeper blacks and greatly improved contrast over conventional LCD TVs. Full 1080p HD resolution ensures you get the most detail possible HD sources and the also offers LG 49LF630V smooth motion. Thanks to 800 PMI (Picture Mastering Index) processing, images are sharper and have less blur with fast moving action scenes.

WebOS 2.0 Smart interface
Widely acclaimed as one of the best smart TV interfaces, LG's webOS 2.0 operating system is now even more simple to use. Rather than using smart TV menu pages, webOS uses superimposed icons, folders and side bars for clear and easy access to smart content. Fast, responsive and truly adept at multi-tasking, even for technophobes will love WebOS 2.0.

One of the Smartest in class
As you'd expect, there's a premium range of LG applications, including many popular video on demand apps, such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer and YouTube. There's also a web browser plus DLNA certification to allow you to stream across your network from other devices, such as your laptop. WiDi lets you stream content from compatible computers and supports up to Full HD resolution.

Ways to share
Miracast lets you watch what's on your mobile or tablet, on the big screen - wirelessly (requires a Wi-Fi network and Miracast certified smartphone -firmware update may be required). Alternatively, MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) allows you to link up compatible smartphones or tablets and stream video via HDMI in full HD. Voice recognition is standard and gesture control via the Magic Remote is available as a cost option.

Crisp sound quality
Boosting the sound quality is LG's Virtual Surround Plus processing for a more enveloping sound. There are six other sound modes and three position modes for precise adjustment, while Smart equalizing volume ensures the volume stays the same during commercial breaks. While it's certainly no match for a soundbar or sound base, the onboard system is better than you might expect

For a TV that delivers on all fronts, the LG 49LF630v is a leader in its class.

I can confirm that after having cut the cable between my satellite dish and my freesat box with a pair of secateurs, the channel on the tv has indeed vanished. Also, you have to connect your freesat box and dish even to access on demand services. Sucks huh.

Ive just bought this from the liverpool branch....and got it for £378! and its awesome....

No issues with fast moving sports, sound quality before ive even connected it to my AV is really decent. The built in OS and apps are really simple to use and contain quite a bit. Everything ive cast so far to my chromecast has streamed really well and looks good quality and the reason i say that is because i wasnt sure how it would cope on a 49" compared to a 32".

Plus 6 years warrenty and i have to admit the service by richer sounds is second to none!!

No need to thank me mate but you welcome nonetheless, of all the tellies I've listed above the only one there was a problem with was the 32 inch Samsung my old man bought over here in Austria.

Being the older generation and having paid a lot of dough for that set at the time the salesman talked him in to an extended warranty and luckily, or unluckily whichever way you look at it, the thing came in to use a couple of months before the time was up. The screen just went, like it switched on and there was sound but no picture at all.

Stöhr the local shop me old man got it from came and took it away, a week or two later it returned and all fine. To be fair that was at least three years ago now, never been a problem since then but I just wanted something new for me gaming.

Did me research and hunted around the usual places like mediamarkt.at and saturn.at and amazon.de till one of the half a dozen or so I was interested in had a biting price.

See I could be 'relieved of my duties' over here tomorrow and then I got a hell of a lot of gear I got to shift back to the UK so I really resisted big things like televisions for years but it came to the point I missed my proper telly, my home rig of Denon and Arcam delights, my Q Acoustics floor standers etc way too much and thus treated myself to all this gear over the last week or two.

As that irritating froggie who used to play for the frontwheels and jaw-dees said in his L'Oréal advert :man: because I'm worth it

Other than my 'Lucky Goldstar' I've not really owned anything even worth admitting too to be honest, I bought what I think was called a Vistro? 42inch plasma about 10years ago for £800, which at the time i thought was the Mut's nuts, but was probably horrific even by AV standards back then.
I then bought a 39inch Polaroid 720p LCD TV for £400, which i gave away a couple years later as the screen tearing was terrible whilst playing Xbox360 games or watching fast moving sports.
Just before buying the LG i was using a 32inch CRT type BUSH TV for around a year - so you can see that my original question on which TV to buy was fueled purely on the basis that i just haven't a clue what a good picture looks like

Based on user reviews and some first hand impressions of TVs I've seen in store I've mainly been looking at Sony BRAVIAs and 2014-15 6 series Samsungs, all of which are around the £500-600 mark (which at the moment is the top end of my budget) I do want to see this LG in store and the Panasonic if possible before i pull the trigger though.

If i do end up buying one of these and it explodes or runs off with my girlfriend however, you'll have first dibs on the "I told you so's"

Thanks for the reply

Mrs Loyal works for Waitrose so I got a partner card which gets you 25% off at John Lewis, apart from electrical gear which is 12% I believe, but they don't ship electricals abroad.

Like of course stuff like that is way too large for her lug over when she flies over every couple of months but you can get some decent deals over here that balance it out when you strike whilst the iron is hot.

This is my fourth flat panel ...... my first was a 32 inch Panasonic I got around 2005 which was stupid money, like 1500 quid I think. Then about a couple or three years later I bought a 40 inch Sony which was even more ridiculous dough like about 1800 quid I think, then I got a 50 inch Samsung around 4 or 5 years ago that was 'only' around a monkey.

Been making do with a 32 inch Samsung over here which my old man bought before he died, was around 6 years old and did the job but I wanted something new.

I was unsure about a curved screen and if I'm honest had I been going to lob it up on the wall I'd not have bought it but sat on an AV unit you can swivel it about a bit. That all said n done as yet I've not noticed any of the glare issues people speak about but I've only had it a week or so, there ain't been much sun shining in the day and even if there was the 'brat bin' is pretty dark anyway.

I really fiddled about with the picture settings last night, kind of going with what an 'expert' from avforums.com advises and it's made quite a difference, very happy with it, and the 'game mode' preset is excellent.

Nice, I've looked at the Samsungs previously, I was on the verge of buying the UE55H6400 last year when John Lewis had one on sale for £550 but i was too late and missed it :disappointed:

I don't want a curved screen as i want to wall mount however the UE48JU6400 is on Richersounds for £599, may go in store to compare a few sets.

Me well informed? Nah not at all so I'd not recommend anything in particular apart from not recommending Lucky Goldstar because they just have a bad name, bad image and the odd person I know who has had one had dramas with them.

I very recently 'upgraded' to a Samsung UE 48 J 6300 series curved which is two inches smaller than what I got back home in the UK but it was a decent price for a telly as well received by reviewers as this was one was when it launched last summer, I got it for €599.

http://www.mediamarkt.at/de/product/_samsung-ue-48-j-6370-suxzg-curved-led-tv-1406120.html

Oh and I then went against all my extreme AV beliefs by not just investing in a 'one box solutuion' soundbar on Sunday just gone, but also purchasing a Samsung one at that.

Hmmmm I am more your Yamaha, Onkyo and Arcam kind of geezer on that front but Media Markt were doing a one day special on the Samsung HW-J650 which I picked up for €256. It's back up to €399 now so that really was a great deal for another product that has had pretty solid reviews from outlets I tend to trust as much as is possible in this game.

So there you have it, the darkest home entertainment secrets of a Brit marooned in Austria indefinitely revealed :smirk: I hope you're happy now.

Must resist....don't...... feed.....the.....Troll....................... Arrhhhhgggggghhh !!!!

I can't do it, Sorry everyone, it could be pride, it could be my strange curiosity of why this guy feels so strongly about LG (previously Goldstar) and Ladas apparently, i don't know - but i simply must:p

Ok, so first off - I'm a fanboy you say? and your evidence for this rests solely on the fact that i expressed some love for a Tv I've owed for almost 7years in response to another post saying the same thing - thats thin at best.

Secondly my original post on this topic was to ask the question "which should i buy?" between this TV, a Panasonic and a Sony... do fanboys normally suggest buying products from other manufacturers??

Now more importantly, when the love of your life left you for 32inch Goldstar TV in a Lada all those many moons ago...how did it feel? seriously i'm here to listen and work this out with you....

Chill out man - I'm asking which TV to buy why all the hostility, lives to short!! You seem well informed so if you have a genuine recommendation to make between the LG, Panny and Sony lets here it (i'm gona go out on a limb and guess its not the LG?)

I see they're queuing up to thank you most sincerely for your 'apology', just like they're stampeding over each other to flatter me with compliments of my trolltastic achievement for daring to suggest Goldstar are a load of old pony.

Sorry skipper but if you want to go all fan boy about mass produced mainstream television sets at least wave a Sony or a Samsung banner :smirk: proclaiming your undying devotion for LG is like a petrol obsessed halfwit bigging up Lada or Yugo instead of knocking one out about Mercedes or BMW #justsaying

Edit: I hope you and your Lucky Goldstar, along with all those wee 3DO's of yours too of course, have a pleasant evening <3

My point is obvious so I got no idea why you're asking such a silly question, but I shall attempt to give you an appropriate response nonetheless.

Alas you're coming across as what some would describe a 'fan boy' and others label a 'corporate slave' though either way you're clearly deeply in love with Lucky Goldstar. That's wonderful and I hope you two have a magical married life together producing lots of ickle Goldstar 3DO's.

Good luck :man:

According to Which?, this one and Samsung (older series) are the best currently. LG, according to the report, suffers from poor sound quality no headphone jack? whilst Samsung has the PVR ... a bit more packed in for £699. Best is copy and paste all the specifications into a spead sheet and compare the have and havenots.

Hi hcc27,
Yeah its been a great TV, i paid £650 for it with a 5year warranty from Richersounds back then - didn't need the warranty in the end as it has never missed a beat.
However the lack of wifi connectivity and usb input is pushing me to upgrade now rather than later, though I'm looking at these particular tvs as they are good value for money and can serve as a nice 1-2year stop gap until OLED become more affordable, like you say.

As a fellow LG owner which of these three tvs would you buy if you were upgrading early?
hcc27
29 Feb 16 #22
Hey, I have that exact same LG TV. Amazing how reliable it has been, in my case just under 6 years. Apart from the large bezel and size, and lack of any smart functions/3D etc, I find the picture quality decent enough. Not sure if there is any justification upgrading to a Full HD or 4K LED set right now over the LG, will probably wait a year or so for 4K OLEDs to come down a bit more. Until then this will have to do.

I was looking at this very television yesterday, seems like a good bit of kit. I've had an LG 47LH3000 for around 7years and I feel its probably time to retire the old boy.
I'm currently looking at this LG

This Panasonic

Or this SONY

Anyone have any thoughts? Obviously the LG is cheaper but the other two televisions are very well reviewed and very stylish for not a great deal more money. I would appreciate some feedback guys and gals.

Thanks

I purchased this a month back from Richer sounds and couldn't be happier with it!

Plugged in the cable from my dish and with in a few minutes had HD Freesat with no issues.

Also managed to get another £10 knocked off with an email promotion that was sent round to "VIP customers", otherwise known as people that signed up on the mailing list.

I had my freesat dish taken down as I don't watch live TV. I wonder if I have done the right thing. There was no signal from the dish any way. Nothing wrong with my Freesat panny which I passed onto my ex. But there had been no signals for years. So I just had it removed.
