I use Lidl cat litter. I go to Lidl solely for their litter, and grab 5 bags at a time. £1.79 for a 10 litre bag, probably the best litter I've used. clumps great, excellent value for money, and my 3 cats love it. compatible priced litter (Tesco value, asda smart price) are useless, rocky, dusty, my cats hate using it, and it's a pain to clean out.

if you haven't tried it, I recommend giving Lidl cat litter a try, you won't go back!

No doubt those brands are good, but they're quite expensive. I usually use Felight, which is a bit cheaper but still quite dear I think. I tend to only buy it when it's on offer. But it's flushable.

I got this from Asda as a sub a couple of weeks ago and I dont like it. Within two days the smell of cat urine was all over the house (that normally never happens). Despite saying on the pack it deodorizes odour, it just doesnt. It doesnt seem to absorb at all, the bottom of the litter tray was soaking wet, yet the litter looked like new.

Cat waste should not be flushed full stop. It's bad for the environment, I don't really care what it says on the bag.

I don't care what it says on the bag either - mine goes in the bin instead of disintegrating down the toilet - I was just merely stating the fact that some cat litters are flushable.

I buy big bags of the Cats best oko plus biodegradable cat litter at a time and it works out at 50p a litre which is around the same price I was paying for supermarket cat litter (which I could never find a good one)!! :smiley:

Gross. Human and Cat should not use the same toilet IMO :P surely it's much easier to just empty the cat litter tray into a bin bag and take it outside rather than scooping it down the bog.

I got a few cats, and for me personally this one (as with most of them) is a no-no. Got 2 male cats, and although both neutered, their pee's gotta pretty potent smell. After trying the majority of cat litters available in the usual stores (B&M, Tesco, Asda, etc), the solution was the Snowflake wood based litter.

Any wood based litter takes care of any pee smell from the 2 males, but the Snowflake litter, when purchasing the large 15l bags works out so much cheaper than buying the smaller bags. After a day it's fine, but guess it all depends on amount of cats (=pee!) and size of litter trays. :smiley: Got 5 (!!!) cats, and two large litter trays. I change the litter fully each second day, and go poop-a-scooping inbetween.

After a days the litter is still perfectly fine (some dust, mainly still pellets), second day there's a lot of dust, making me change it (there's no smell!).

In front of the litter trays I have cheap welcome mats from the poundstore. Any sawdust gets stuck on the welcome mats, so they don't drag it all over the place. Also got a third welcome mat that I scatter catip on, as four of them perfers to roll in it (the fifth one wants nip rubbed onto toys), and saved having nip all over the carpets.

If pee smell is ever an issue - it's well worth it! Be warned, my local Home Bargains only sell the smaller bags instore (hence why I order the larger bags for delivery instore), but would be worth picking up a smaller bag to try it.

It took me about 2 months to get it right. My cats used to have access to the outside via catflap, so never used lttertrays. Last year I moved, and it's not a safe area for cats (busy roads), and although the cats adjusted just fine, the cat litter was a major issue for me. The trays are very large, and using really cheap litter ment it was also very heavy... and stinky! Using really expensive litter (those white little "plastic" pellets) turned out to be just as stinky! I found the wood based litter from Tesco (think it's the Bob Martin?) ment the place ended up smelling like a lumberyard when the cats peed, but that was still preferable to the smell of cat pee. Also tried all the different litter scent powders you can buy - and still there was cat pee smell (and at this point I was changing the litter trays each day, sometimes several times a day, in the hope to get rid of catpee smell).

In the end the one from Home Bargains was perfect for us. The price is good and there's no smell. Cats all like it (they didn't like the really heavy/cheap cat litters), so everyone is happy all around.

The trays had to be cleaned (I used cleaning spray and papertowels) when I used other litter, as the sand would get stuck in the trays... lovely mixture of pee and litter. :confused: When using the woodbased one I use, all the trays need are a little whack on the bottom as I empty them into bags, and everything is gone. Nothing sticks to the trays.

Since using the Snowflake litter (3 months now), I've once had to clean one of the trays, and that was beacuse one of the dev... angels had decided to poo on the edge.

My cat used to walk all the wee-soaked smelly litter pellets/rolls/crystals (depending on the Brand) round the flat and on my bed, I hated that. She's now trained to use the toilet, I got rid of the smelly litter tray and the problem of the unhygienic litter around my flat.

Next project, teach her to flush afterwards.

Yes! I made a circular ledge which sits inside the loo, just below my seat , she uses it to squat on (also gives privacy). She's a shy girl so will hate me forever for exploiting her human-toiletting talents on youtube!

She loves it - walks in circles with her head pushed below the seat for ages finding the right view, before squatting lol.

Short of training cats to use a normal bog, the best tips I've found are:

1) Use good wood based litter, can be flushed down bog, should be powder when it needs changing not a sodden mess. We use Mayfair which is now "The Pet Shop" branded apparently. :smirk:

2) You only need a sprinkling in each, roughly a honey jar full per litter tray to start it, then just remove damp powder and leave the dry stuff. Our 4 cats use one honey jar of litter a day for all of them.

3) Put litter tray near toilet so easy to flush, any dust they make can easily be swept up cos it's a hard floor.

4) If you have multiple cats it's less stressful for them if they have their own litter tray. We have 3 between 4 cats.

5) Empty it every day. You don't want them not using it cos it's smelly and going behind your TV instead. :confused: Our cats actually wait till you've emptied them before using them sometimes.

6) Use trays with hoods, we took the doors off. Also the plastic inside should be smooth, not textured, basically never needs cleaning.

It's actually not that unusual. I'm also in the process of training my feline friend, hence the flushable litter.

Looking at it it looks like small wood pellets or even big hard lumps of porridge oats. Never seen any other product like it. Yes,Lidl's own.It's called Coshida.Dark blue bags.I use it too.The best i've found without paying a fortune for the stuff.
