This thing is rated at 20 watts RMS - your TV might be just as good but as most flat tellys have speakers at the back (ie not pointing at you) I'd expect this would help add depth to the sound and some stereo separation if the speakers are placed correctly. Be interested to know myself if this adds much to a bog standard telly (which are normally rated at around 20 watts).

20watts. Nope

Damn, I was thinking of getting one for the bedroom TV instead of a soundbar.

in terms of sound quality it'd be fine, but the question is how you would input your TV sound into the Bush stereo. The only route I can gather from the spec of the bush would be a 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack from your TV's headphone out socket into the bush Aux in, which would work and use the Bush speakers, but would be unfortunate as it wouldn't make use of the Bush's amp which is likely to be better than your TVs

20 watts RMS is plenty if that's a genuine figure and the speakers are reasonably sensitive. Most power figures quoted are "music power" - absolute maximum short-duration volume, regardless of distortion, rather than RMS which is a proper measure of continuous power. I still have an old 20w Naim amplifier which I use in my garage, I never turn it up much beyond half-way.

My father had a Naim pre amp and amp which are amazing. But to see Naim mentioned in a post about a Bush stereo is something I was not expecting :-) (naim amp £2k+ and bush stereo £50)

Amazing to see companies like Bush still around. Reminds me of the golden days in the 70's when Bush were big.

Bush is a British consumer electronics brand owned by Home Retail Group, and is one of the most famous names on early British radios. Its sister brand is Alba. Today, all Bush and Alba products are sold exclusively at Argos and Homebase

Looking at the manual online my TV has RCA outputs (L-R) on the back for connecting to audio equipment, would those outputs use the Bush's amp?

28 Jan 16#20
It should do, but when i've tried this on my Sony stereo from my Toshiba TV it didn't work, I asked around on a forum and the replies were mentioning something about the RCA outputs being "line out" or something, sorry I can't help more. Don't forget, if you were going to buy this stereo anyway, the headphone jack would sound considerably better than the TV speakers though!

Just set up one for my ex, sound very good, plenty loud enough.... got RCA inputs on the back ,which is how I have my tv connected to my amp (some tvs need a setting changed in the audio menu) but the last 3 I have setup this way have worked off the bat..
Impressed , all works very well, Bluetooth really simple to set up also memory card and usb work well.......manual easy to follow, remote good............

Tempted to go for this to replace an outdated mini system. Does it really sound as decent as the reviews suggest, I am a bit dubious for the money? First Argos deal in ages that mine actually has any stock - hooray ☺

Almost the same with an ipod dock for an extra fiver here
The one that you have suggested does not have DAB radio which is a no no for me. DAB was one of the main features I was looking for.

Just a word of caution about the way DAB is going ,,,, I used to listen to it all the time but noticed that lots of stations were coming thru in mono (64kbs) so checked everything thinking I had a problem but found nothing, I even live in a new build flat with a built in DAB aerial.
So did some research and it appears DAB is being broadcast at less and less quality currently equivalent to 128kbps MP3 music, but some at 64kbps which is mono ....and looks to be getting worse...
So now use freeview radio connected thru my HIfi,,,,,,,,,,,,
Apparently its ok for small radios but not much use for anything else these days, probably ok for talk radio etc, but very poor quality for music

If you're still convinced that you need a stereo on this kind of budget then spend a little but more on something like http://www.richersounds.com/product/mini-hi-fi/philips/btm2310/phil-btm2310 which was available in my local store for 59.99.
