UPDATE:
Ordered yesterday click and collect, just picked it up today, great service. Lovely looking piece of kit, it is all metal panels either brushed or polished, no plastic on it.
Importantly, to note a standard 27 cm dinner plate does fit in OK. The 24 cm diameter quoted is just the size of the glass turntable plate but you have a few cm to overhang a dinner plate on top.

I have ordered this deal and I'm looking forward to it arriving, but I'm tinged with sadness having to say goodbye to my dear old Goodmans 700W which I bought in Sainsbury's for £20 in 1999
She's been warming up pies faithfully for 17 years, but now it's time for her to meet her maker (God Almighty in heaven that is, not the actual grubby little industrial unit in Taiwan).
I dont know whether to bury her in the garden next to Fido or get a commemorative pendant made from her metallic effect pressed steel casing. RIP my beloved. :disappointed:

It's odd that as a kid I was always told never to leave a stainless steel spoon in a cup as it would damage the microwave. I always assumed that why most of them had an enamel coating inside.

You can leave spoons in safely it's things with pointy bits like forms that you can't.

Me too. We've had an 850watt for like 20 years. The light has failed inside but it still works!
Going by some of the comments in this thread, they don't make em like they used to

I have heard that before a lot, but remember, it's not how big it is but what you do with it.

I'm looking for a decent Combi. The Panasonic Slimline Combination Microwaves I've bought from Amazon - I've returned THREE, two of which lasted days/a week before acting up, the third delivered with the door hanging off :disappointed:

If happy with microwave/grill combo and not wanting full on convection oven combo then try this, louiselouise, free delivery and return plus John Lewis guarantee, you can't go too far wrong. Bosch is proper German engineering, Panasonic is Jap cr.ap.

One-star review at Bosch website: No, I do not recommend this product. I've now owned this product for 2 months. I have had two engineer visits to attempt to repair the grill - this consistently cuts out after 4mins 30 secs and the oven needs to be left with the door open for at least 5 mins before the grill can restart. This is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! After checking with his technical support team, the engineer has informed me that this is how this model is designed to operate. It will be returned to retailer. http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/products/cooking-baking/ovens/compact-built-in-ovens/HMT75G451B.html#tab5

Looks like those clever German engineers put in a safety feature to stop the grill setting your food on fire which your selected reviewer didn't understand. Not to worry plenty of 5 star reviews at JL :sunglasses:

Had a sharp microwave that lasted years. The touch pad stopped working on the 10 sec so bought a delonghi from Argos. In less than 2 years the bottom where the turntable spins has rusted and paint blistering. I've ordered this due to it not being painted inside. Hope it lasts better.

That was my reason for choosing this too, fingers crossed it is a good one.

Thanks but I want convection/grill/microwave.
With Panasonic, from experience and reading around, the cheaper Slimline Combis seem to have big problems reliability-wise. They're made in China which doesn't necessarily mean they are shoddily made but people with older Panasonic Combis notice a huge difference in build quality.
In addition, the Inverter system seems to be unreliable (or at least was in its early generations). Cheaper Combis from brands like Daewoo seem to also have reliability issues - so I'm thinking spending quite a few more £s will guarantee me a decent machine? I suspect all of the cheaper machines cut corners and aren't built to last.
The much more expensive (circa £350+) Panasonic Premium Combination Microwave NN-CF853W/873W seems to get much better reviews, but it still has the Inverter system.
My suspicion is now that Bosch are bringing out cheaper appliances, they too may be falling victim to the rebadge/dismantling of their good brand name trend that's going on nowadays (and I have a Bosch washing machine). Panasonic surprised many on HUKD by bringing out cheap rebadge Vestel TVs quite recently.
As for Panasonic being "Jap Crap" as you put it, Panasonic were always renowned for their top-notch electronics and especially their Combination Microwaves (and Breadmakers - to give another kitchen appliance example) - as being the best of the best. Alas, I think that is changing. It's hard to know which brand to trust nowadays (washing machines are another example).

Yes, I was very surprised to find that Panasonic had badged some cheapo 32 inch LCD TV's - Not good at all.

I have only just unboxed the microwave, I cant see anything specifically about a silent mode but will post back if I have any new useful information regarding this.

17L even smaller than your usual 20L capacity. Not enough room to swing a cat. Dont know why they bother to produce these things. Possibly ok for warming up a cold coffee. Russell Hobbs 25L combi at Sainsburys is a far better option especially if you get it discounted at around the £65 mark. 1000W too.

It fits a dinner plate and a pint pot no bother - see below. What do you normally cook in a microwave, for me just an occasional ready meal or pot of beans??
Only got a 49% score on WHICH reviews.. Good grill / poor microwave.

I've gone through more microwaves than I've had hot dinners - if you'll excuse the idiom.
The latest, a Russell Hobbs, which I bought in July 2014 (so safely outside its one year guarantee, although a ridiculously short time for a microwave to 'live') has decided not to switch off at the end of the programme causing Hubby's branflakes and milk to explode this morning.
He solved the problem though. He switched it off at the wall, got a new bowl of cereal and waited for the 'fairies' to come along to clean it up....that is what happens, isn't it? :smirk:
So, here I am, trawling though HUKD looking for another one. Gawd, I hate appliance shopping!

Can this be used as a replacement for built-in microwave ? I think I read somewhere that it needs 30cm clearance on top which wouldn't be possible inside a cabinet .. thanks
boostii to tanikk£
21 Mar 16#33
You are correct about the clearance, this is a tabletop appliance and gets fairly hot when the grill is in action.

Bosch only in the badge on the front. Same microwave as supermarket generics and other brands that no longer truly exist. Such as Sharp.
I'm after a new microwave after having 3 Panasonic NN-CF778S and also a Sharp R959SLMA. They are all rubbish these days, all made in China but at least the higher end Panasonics are actually Panasonic. Currently looking at just getting a cheap Samsung.
Opening post
Grill - good for crisping up after microwaving
Stainless steel interior - easy clean, long life, no paint to flake off
Comparable prices - same model is £110-130 elsewhere (£79 for ebay seller refurbished)
Comparable products - John Lewis selling the basic Bosch with only two control knobs, no display, no grill, painted interior for £79.
Spec - counter top design, 800W microwave, 1000W grill, 17 litre capacity
