The remaining Christmas stock at Boots is going down to 90% off from today. My two local stores don't really have any stock left but I know some stores will have some still. Good luck if anyone finds much :)

If it didn’t sell at 3 for 2, 50% off or 70% off… it’s probably not worth having.

Good idea. The problem is they have no shortage of greedy people happy to buy anything to add to their collection of things gathering dust.

So a company sells product with 90% discount and they are greedy? Ok.............

I don't understand why they would give something away when they know people will buy the products. These kinds of reductions is what keeps shoppers going to the same kind of sale each year. It's a business!

Actually by the time it hits 70% off they will be making a loss, certainly by 90% there will be considerable loss. They will have allowed for some loss at this discount as it is "cheaper" for them to do this than to remove the stock for donating or moving elsewhere.
Obviously the less stock there is by the time the 90% discount kicks in, the better the job the buyer has done at forecasting sell through.

Yeah, but now it'll be a loss leader. Still getting people through the doors. I'm going to check out my locals which I wouldn't bother visiting otherwise. But they could donate to a good, tell everyone what they've and get good publicity out of it. Nothing a company does will truly be charitable.

Daughter popped into Boots Buchanan Galleries Glasgow and came away with a haul...they seem to be staggering when they are putting goods out on sale. She texted to say Laura Ashley journal 50p, Ashley memo pad 40p, 3 drawer wooden storage unit £1.60, 3 other items she didn't list, total £6. Says there are two racks of shelving for the sale items, and a pile of boxes and the staff just come along and add more when the shelving empties. She didn't get near the beauty gift sets, says about 5 people queueing in orderly fashion for the next items to be unboxed.

Thanks for the post Vrstar, there was a few bits left in my local boots - partly because they don't price things up & as the store is so small. Got a couple of lynx sets for 65p (should have been £6.50) & a couple of hand wash/hand cream sets at 80p (should have been £8 ). Wouldn't have gone in if I hadn't seen your post, so thanks.

Celeb fragrances are still 70% off but the xmas gifts are 90% off
70% they will still be making a profit, 90% a small loss. I think you under estimate how much boots make on stuff. I had a shop selling cosmetics and the like, to give an idea of profit margins, I was paying £2.60 + VAT for the celeb gift sets Boots sell for £20, Beckhams, Kate Moss, Kylie etc. About the same for 50ml EDT's. Considering Boots buying power they will have been getting them at a lower price than I was, so 70% off would still yield a small profit.
Cosmetics were all high margins too, for example, Rimmel mascaras boots sell for £8.99 I was paying £1.64 for, the foundations like Wake Me Up etc, £1.85.

True, it may increase footfall a little, but I don't think I said any of it was charitable - they're just minimising losses and managing profit. Just the way it is!

Not necessarily, there will be a mix in there. Purchasing only negotiate the raw materials, buyers manage the cost portfolio of the finished goods.
