This is a powered cable. Its meant for powering printers and scanners usually.

USB 'A' (rectangle) at one end, USB 'B' (square) at the other end.
Not suitable for phones/tablets, unless you get a connector to convert the USB B end of the cable to Micro USB.
This cable is for, typically, using with printers, quite a few of which still come with a USB B connector.
Belkin make USB cables with rugged moulded connectors I find. They put up with a lot of abuse..
