A great GPU at a price I have been waiting for.
The gigabyte version has the smallest width of all 380x cards at 221mm so will happily fit into SOME smaller cases.
The card takes one 8 Pin connector.

It has Asynchronous Compute Engines built in so the performance gap Will sway in favour of the 380x as DX12 games arrive.

Card has been hovering around £200 since release. This is a really great price.

I moved to nvidia this gen due to a great deal on a 980ti.

Fanboys either way are really not worth listening to, amd have been great for me over the years.

Anyone who doesn't want AMD to do better and increase market share is not thinking it through, a healthy rivalry would encourage both nvidia and amd to do better, with us benefitting from better products/value. Do you really think nvidia would work as hard if amd cards didn't exist?..

Yeah. The 380 version is only £5 less.

The XFX version of the 380x is also 179.99

I have been waiting to snap the Gigabyte version up for a small case.
I live just a few miles from Novatech, So I am off to pick it up now.

I know this is a decent card but from guru3d review I've read it's closer to 25% slower than GTX 970. True they benchmarked at 1440p so might be a different story at 1080p. Be interested to know where you got the 10% from as this would make this deal even hotter.

Nevertheless hot price. Nice find

You are right, my bad.I edited.
20-30% yes.

Still, performacne / price still has it level pegging.

ASYNC compute will narrow that margin starting with Hitman. The first DX12 title.

Wel maybe your card is faulty or your other PC components as I have never had gta5 crash and have owned it since day 1. Been playing the newest games like rise of the tomb raider with out a single problem. Nothing wrong with amd or nvidia cards drivers unless u just got unlucky with a faulty card. I have had several manufactures cards over the decades and amd hardware and software are fine.

Good to see there's at least some people who understand this! It amazes me people think the new cards will make anything previous totally worthless. I mean, I've even read somebody here claim that GTX 970's will be about £80 and 980Ti's around £180 when they come out

It just makes no sense at all from a business point of view. They will lose so much money with the old GPU's either being sent to a scrapheap or sold for massive losses.

I also love how people guess the performance increase. Supposedly the equivalents will be '2x as fast' according to shak, despite neither manufacturer releasing any benchmarks showing this!

My guess is around 10-15% performance increase at best, but you'll also pay an added premium for the new architecture as well, so I think for a while it'll make more sense to stick to the previous range or at least until the non-ref cards begin to appear. IMO the biggest change with this next generation will be small form factor mini and micro ATX case builds taking over towers.
Smoking173850
20 Feb 16 1 #29
Send the card back as it must be dead on arrival or its your PC. Trust me I have no issues what so ever running gat5 on a amd card.
Don't know if u have to pay to send it back as I have always been lucky I guess.
Smoking173850
20 Feb 16 1 #30
Not sure about 2x as fast as that's a bit extreme but they will be 2x node shrink which means 2x as many transiters which also means u can make a gpu the same graphical power with half the die size.just because u can have 2x the transistors does not mean 2x graphical power but I would be dissapointed if they weren't atleast 20% more powerful than a 980ti as this is 2 nodes shrinks which in tech terms is massive. The 1070 should roughly give you 980ti performance.
Should be interesting to see if we get the first capable 4K 60fps card because if we do I'm all in.
To say they wouldnt make no money if they canniblised there maxwell cards is not true. If your stuck on maxwell and not upgrading then nvidia are not making more money so it's in there interest to make them much better.
Anyhow I'm looking forward to these next cards let's hope the **** console ports won't hold them back even more with poor optimisation as no powerful card can overcome that

Wait a few more months as amd are releasing there lower cards first starting around may time if journalists are to be believed. Yes u will pay small amount extra but it will be a hell of a lot better card so it will last that much longer
mamboboy
20 Feb 16 #32
What I mean is people planning on upgrading or making new builds will not even contemplate maxwell cards unless the price directly correlates the performance increase. So say they do provide '2x' performance increase, you'll need to price the maxwell cards probably 50% less than the new alternative range. This means remaining stock will almost certainly be sold at less than wholesale cost, and that will be devastating for retailers.

As tempt said, we all know the potential of this new generation, but manufacturers want people to have a need to keep upgrading with each new range they release. It simply doesn't make sense for them to release high and mid range cards than both smash it a 4K.

I wouldn't be surprised if the top end card is 60fps 4K capable though. But I think you'll be looking at at least a £650 pricetag.
Smoking173850
20 Feb 16 1 #33
Yep I totally agree with your statement about £650 and under. It will be reserved for the top tier cards.
Im sure the pascal Titan will do it but they are like £800. Personly I think amd Polaris will be good competive cards too because throughout all history amd has pushed other manufactures first to the node and first card has always been the best so don't see why it shouldn't be different this time. Have hands on experience on hbm will no doubt help them too plus they designed and partly made it.
Certainly interesting times and I can't wait bring on 4K

I'm on a tight budget and was going to get the MSI 380 for £160 but this deal seems very enticing. I've noticed that the 380x is about 10-15% better than the 380 and with this deal is 13% more in price so I take it that I'll be getting the same price:performance ratio as the 380 right?

How are Novatech as a company? I've never bought from them before (usually use Amazon). If there are any issues how easy are they to deal with and when it comes to the 3 year warranty, would I be dealing with them or directly with Gigabyte?

Has it slowed since the update the other day? People said it slowed there's down but it was just the same for me. The is a mod to speed animations and pauses after turns.
I have a fury and it struggles with the game all maxed out. Amd cards seem to be playing better than my friends nvidia cards but don't have a clue why that is as some of them have 980ti but yet people say 970runs it fine so who knows. Just hold out for a few more months as the new cards will be much better and if u keep your cards for years then u will have a better experience for the duration of the card. Nvidia are aparntly dropping the big cards first.

20 Feb 16 #45
ok ok guys, calm down,
AMD drivers are better, they are better as once something works with AMD it works with AMD driver updates.
Nvidia drivers are also great but Nvidia have a nasty habit of updating the drivers, changing something without thought of consequence of what it will do to previously compatible games unless they are AAA.
to be honest for years I really didn't consider how bad this could be but after 6 years of pleasant Radeon gaming and not realising it would be a mistake to move to NVidia I made the switch. I stayed Nvidia for a year and it was awful, some games required more recent drivers so I would install them only to find it broke other games so I would have to keep loading old ones, then new ones then old ones. it almost put me off gaming.
now I probably had a worse experience due to playing in closed alpha tests, but it wasn't just the alpha games.
anyway I switched back to Radeon and life is great again. I can play what I want, when I want, without updating or rolling back drivers, no crashing to desktop (or worse with UT3 engine games where it could actually crash the whole machine).

I really hope one day that Nvidia realise stability is just as important as performance because the benchmarks on the NVidia card were just a touch better but its more important to me that it works than eaks out a couple of frames more.

I can't contribute to the GTA V debate, was disappointed with IV and can't bring myself to play it.

Why did you return your Nano if you needed a card for a small case?

You've bought a Nano, a Fury X, a 380x, and I'm pretty sure I saw you bought the 7790 and quite a few other exotic/high priced cards.

What are you actually doing with all these GFX card purchases? You seem to buy every single tier of AMD, are you getting them for free or something?

A more reasonable discussion on the whole async compute stuff here - https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/3j5e9b/analysis_async_compute_is_it_true_nvidia_cant_do/

Even Oxide are now confirming that Maxwell does have async support. The question is to what extent it is effective.

Ferrari100

Async compute becomes sync compute on Nvidia GPU's as they are incapable of executing computes tasks concurrently.
That means they can queue and execute cpu tasks but only one at a time.
Easy2BCheesy
21 Feb 16 #52
That's not true if you could be bothered to read the link and look at the data linked to therein.
Ferrari100
21 Feb 16 1 #53
There is absolutely no evidence Nvidia GU's support ASYNCHRONOUS compute fully.
I have studied more than you and if you can show me absolute proof I am willing to listen but you cannot. There is none.
Even Nvidia have not commented on it. That speaks volumes in itself.
Nate1492
22 Feb 16 #55
So, you're already back to lying about ASYNC compute again?

Just read this statement and actually think about how biased you are for a moment.

You are saying you will not listen to any evidence that contradicts you. You refused to read an article linked, as you have already made up your mind!

You were linked an exhaustive analysis on ASYNC compute performance, but you don't want to read/accept it as it distracts from your narrative.

I can second this, my 280x at 1080p is amazing and hasnt failed me yet. I have the Tri-x OC version and just recently got a second 280x (Gigabyte windforce) to do crossfire. When crossfire works its great, but more often than not its a pain to get working properly...not to mention the heat a 280x puts out. The top card is constantly overheating, i reduced the clocks on the memory and that stopped my artifacting but I think from now on a proper single card is the way to go. By the way i got the second 280x as I use 3 1080p monitors.
Nate1492
23 Feb 16 #57
SLI/CrossFire is problematic when your GPUs require tons of power/produce lots of heat.

CrossFire seems to take longer on driver support, and since most of the 300x series are pumping out drastic amounts of heat, I can't think of anything but the Nano that I could recommend for CrossFire.

That said, I can't really recommend getting 2 nano's over some other solution.
umirza85
23 Feb 16 #58
Agreed here. Im actually thinking of getting rid of the 280x's as it turns my room into a heater and replacing with a 295x2. Friend has one of those and the only issues you need to deal with are driver ones  which I'll take. Though hasnt a vendor released a dual GPU 3XX series card??

What's the point of you saying that? You are unequivocally an AMD supporter. You have said so yourself. Why would you lecture people about remaining unbiased?

Now you are full on defensive. Geez
Nate1492
23 Feb 16 #61
I'm trying to keep this civil and on topic, not sure why you want to continue to make this a personal discussion.

Please remember, this card is not very good when paired with a CPU below an i5 2500.

If you are using an AMD or an Intel i3, you should consider avoiding AMD full stop as the CPU for DX11 will bottleneck your cards.
Ferrari100
23 Feb 16 #62
You are the bully.
Four or five times you have asked me to state my reasons for purchasing/owning certain GPU's. Fortunately for you I do not feel the need to cry about it every time. That does not stop the fact you ARE A bully.
No please or politeness, just insistence that I give you answers with no thanks for it.
That IS bullying.
That makes you a hypocrite if nothing else.
Also I have seen nobody bully you. Only offer constructive criticism which you seem to prefer to ignore.
If the mods bothered to read through the posts that lead to the bans you give people they would see what the real issue is.
Nate1492
23 Feb 16 #63
I'm the bully because I ask a question?

I asked you why you got rid of your AMD Nano and replaced it with an AMD Fury X! That's not a bully question, it's legitimate.

You have talked about how great the Nano is countless times, yet you returned yours for some reason and purchased the Fury X which is older.

Please, explain that, so people can understand why someone who loves AMD would get rid of his Nano.

I think it would shed a lot of light on the quality of the Nano if we knew your reasoning for swapping.

Also, constructive criticism doesn't require using offensive words, it requires simple questions and responses based on sound reason and logic.
Ferrari100
23 Feb 16 #64
Nobody has used offensive words again st you. Don't make things up
Asking a question and demanding not answer to the question is the difference.
