This is a perfect trip for anyone who wants to see the best Croatian cities and national parks, this trip is for people who like a busy holiday, like myself!! There is a lot of driving involved in this holiday and you will probably need another holiday after this one to recover!! I did this exact trip last year and it's is one of my favourite trips.

This deal is based on 2 people flying out to Zadar from Manchester on 26th April returning on 3rd May. You will be staying for 2 nights in Zadar, 3 nights in Split and 2 nights in Dubrovnik.

The best places to stay in Croatia are lovely guest houses, the hosts are always super friendly offering you local delicacies which they've grown and made themselves. I'd never choose to stay in any other type of accommodation when in Croatia.

Trip breakdown

26th April - You land into Zadar around 2130, pick up the car hire and head to the guesthouse. You are staying in the Villa Maslina which is well rated and has free parking, free wifi with a balcony.

27th - 28th April - You have one day to head to Plitvice National Park which is amazing and a must visit in Croatia. The next day to explore Zadar, the city is beautiful but only small, make sure you visit the Sea Organ. Always try and drive in the evening or early morning as it saves wasting the day and you'll arrive in the next city in time for breakfast/dinner! Once you've finish in Zadar or Plitvice head to Split which is take around 1.5 hours from Zadar or 2.5 hours from Plitvice. I've chosen Apartment Antonia which is a lovely well reviewed guesthouse which has private parking, a terrace and free Wifi.

29th April - Spend the day exploring this beautiful city, again Split is only fairly small so you will have some time in the afternoon to relax on the beach which is a little walk away.

30th April - Check out fairly early and head towards Dubrovnik. This drive is truly beautiful and you'll find yourself stopping along the way for pictures of the islands Hvar and Bol. It takes around 3 hours with stops to reach Dubrovnik so set out as early as you can so not to miss the day. Check into Villa Adria which is close to the centre and has a lovely terrace, free Wifi and parking however it is a surcharge here.

1st May - Spend the day exploring the walls of this beautiful city. If you find yourself with spare time it's worth taking a visit to the little picturesque town of Cavtat for a few hours.

2nd May - Check out and set off early to Split as it is well worth visiting the island of Hvar and the best place to do this is from Split. Firstly head to the guesthouse to leave the car and the bags, I've chosen Studio H&M which has great reviews and free parking, a garden view and a patio.
Buy your tickets before getting on the boat which cost around £15 return if I remember correctly, and leaves only a few times throughout the day so make sure you check the times if you wish to visit Hvar.

3rd May - Check out and head towards Krka National Park which is similar to Plitvice National Park but still has its own personality and you can swim in the waterfalls! It will take you around an hour from Split to drive here. You will probably only spend half a day here so you can either visit the little town of Sibenik or head to Zadar which is just under an hour drive away. The flight home is 2200 but don't worry too much about getting there too early it's a tiny airport with not much to do!

I understand this trip is very busy and probably won't suit everyone but this is the sort of holiday I like to do so I'm sharing my favourite type of holiday for others to try and enjoy too!

Price breakdown

Flights to Zadar booked with Ryanair - £82.46 - £41.23 each

Zadar hotel booked with Booking.com - £48 - £24 each

Split hotel booked with Booking.com - £53 - £26.50 each

Dubrovnik hotel booked with Booking.com - £44 - £22 each

Split hotel booked with Booking.com - £22 - £11 each

Car hire booked through AtlasChoice - £26.74 - £13.37 each

Total price for 2 people - £276.20

Total price each £138.10

This deal only includes hand luggage however for the amount of travelling you are doing it would be a great burden with a large suitcase, having to check it in and cart it around all the cities. This trip is designed for people who are ready to up and go with just hand luggage, it was also cost a fortune adding a suitcase on to all these flights! I did this trip easily last year with just hand baggage is you want to add a bag it'll cost you £30 each return.

You'll be able to do it later in the year, prices of flights do go up but the accommodation and car hire don't go up that much, plus it's cheap in Croatia  I loved this trip I did a few more stops in other towns but this trip is already busy enough without me throwing extra places in!

Good trip but here is a word of warning about Atlas Car Hire as I believe they don't make it clear enough. When you book you must use a CREDIT Card and when you collect your car you must have a CREDIT Card. A DEBIT Card will not do and they will just tell that there is no car and you will NOT get a refund. Its in the T and C's, I think well hidden. Croatia is lovely but this does look hard work. Hot from me though.

6 Feb 16 #17
It is a hard going trip, the one I did was a little bit more busy too but I love a good explore! We always take a credit card away with us for emergencies but I've notice a few car hire places only accepting credit cards not noted down the companies but thanks for the heads up that atlas choice is one of them!

Great trip. Great country. Wasnt particularly impressed with Dubrovnik as the Game of Thrones merchandise, tours and fans have taken over the city, but Split and Zadar were awesome as were the national parks.

Remember to add in the toll motorways. They can add up.
BlueSkies to rufnek2kx
6 Feb 16 1 #20
The tolls were super cheap I thought don't think I even had one which was £5 and only went through a few, the Italian tolls are shockingly expensive! I loved the national parks they're lovely aren't they, think I preferred Plitvice!
rufnek2kx
6 Feb 16 #21
We drove from Pula to Dubrovnik with various stop offs and overlaps. Tolls alone cost around £50 for the whole trip so I thought it was worth mentioning. Half of plitvice was closed when we went (ironically because of too much water) but it was very beautiful. I'd definitely visit Split again.

Omg really we didn't pay anything near that we hardly used toll roads to be honest, maybe because when we went from Split to Dubrovnik we went through Mostar in Bosnia then coming back we went from Dubrovnik to split via makarska and it was a coastal road, we hardly did any motorway driving! What a shame a lot of Plitvice was closed, it's so pretty isn't it!

Thanks for posting! I've been wanting to go to Zadar and Plitvice for a while now.

How easy is it to get everywhere? Are they easy drives in and out of the cities? Also what's the language barrier like? Is it hard to get by without knowing any/much Croatian?

Thanks!

I went to Croatia for two weeks in august. Primarily split. There's about 15 little beaches we went to them all I would suggest going to the park and picking a spot on the north side. They are much quieter. Croatia is brilliant, I recommend booking a restaurant called marjan, it's top on trip advisor in split and is exceptional

Was in bratislava last year and pleasantly surprised. It was crazy hot when we were there in may and we did so much walking for the few days we were there (did 14 miles one day and got a little sunburnt lol). Castle is worth it but don't bother with the ufo tower for the views as it's quite expensive. It's also super cheap and we went to some brilliant eateries. Beer was great too! Hope you enjoy :sunglasses:

This is a great deal Btw! We're doing something similar in a couple months but spent far more than this which makes me a bit sick lol. Can't wait to visit hvar and korcula where we've not been yet. Just a shame it's very limited with the times of travel on the ferries, ie, very early mornings.

Went to Yugoslavia just before the 90's, returning to Croatia May last year staying for a very nice week at the Radisson blu resort in Dubrovnik, although I wouldn't fancy it in the height of summer. We recommend OMIS the pirate town its easily the best place to stay and try all the pirate boat trips, climb up the pirate castle whilst avoiding poisonous snakes , river rafting and diving off the dangerous cetina viewpoint rock if you have the guts to dive off a high rock ledge into a swirling river - its scary on Cetina - The only thing we missed was Plitvice!

Hi blue skies. Me and 3 friends have booked this trip and are looking to do this too, did you have any issues with doing this? Did you have to have any extra documentation or insurance?
I've bought 3rd party car insurance here in the UK after being recommended to do so by multiple people when renting a car abroad, this covers all of Europe.

Would you recommend doing anything else on the trip in any of the cities, like bars/restaurants and sorts.

Credit card acceptance are mostly available in shops, restaurants, pubs, petrol station and even the high way pay toll! On last day, I've used my credit card the most as I've ran out their currency cash and stuck my credit card in to the ATM and got some Kunas out  I'm not really sure depends what hotels, and I've spent £8 for a night in hostel which pretty reasonable lol

Hey, I just wanted to check about the travel money. I am visiting Croatia end of this month. Did you carry cash only OR you used credit card as well? How was the overall credit card acceptance at places like petrol station, restaurants, hotels, pubs etc? Also you reckon how much money roughly for 3 adults when all hotels, car rent etc is paid out and for normal usage eating out and pubs etc, nothing fancy eating.

Thanks
