I ordered this drive from Amazon (and, it was from Amazon not a marketplace seller) 9 months ago for £89.90 and it turned up in the standard hard disk shipping box with the disk held in place with the plastic shipping trays that you get the same as anywhere else. I just checked and the Western Digital warranty checker says 3 years on the warranty too.

Just received one from Amazon and it's dead on arrival, however can't complain about the packaging (apart from maybe a 'handle with care' sticker might possibly have helped) - can only presume rough handling by the courier company has caused the damage. Credit to Amazon though, getting this one picked up tomorrow and receiving replacement tomorrow too. If that one is DOA then I'll go physically get one myself from somewhere.

Errm, that picture looks like the exact packaging Western Digital (and other disk manufacturers) use to ship their disks, they don't use foam in a box.

That is not well packaged it should be in a tight box with foam this is why there is so many faulty drives about.
These drives are still over priced a 3tb drive should be around £60 by now over 5 years ago the quality samsung drives could be had for £50.

Someone's just cleared them out. OOS on the 3, 4 & 5tb.
Interesting what you seem to have taken from that, when they company reviewing say they are using reds over greens.
I took that red drives are a lot more suited than green drives to a NAS, and, depending on size (for price difference reasons) are better in none raid systems due to the extended warranty etc (TLER can be turned off so is not an issue).
"Really the only major specification difference between the two drive lines is that Red drives support TLER (critical for RAID arrays), have a longer expected lifespan, and an extra year of warranty. Red drives also have a longer head parking delay than Green drives, which can either be a pro or a con depending on if you want to reduce power draw as much as possible or maximize performance and lifespan."

I purchased a NEW Western digital 2TB BLACK from amazon only last week for a measly £53 and it was delivered in not one but two boxes and was suspended inside as well as having brown paper in the outer box so the smaller box would not rattle around :wink:
As for this deal it's colder than a witches tit dew to my new WD 2TB black drive with 5 years warranty.

Recently had to send back a pair of sennheiser earphones that died after just a year (they have a 2year warranty). Amazon sent out a new one v quickly so can't fault them.
Its possible that you would have to go direct to WD to get the warranty after 1 year but Ebuyer are the same in that respect

I would personally never purchase a hard drive from Amazon - have you seen how they package them for shipment?! Also, the Amazon drives lack the 3 year warranty.
