Cant find any option for unlimited landline calls, unless everyone you call is on Virgin.

Its called virgin big talk payg , quite good top up £10 and you get unlimited landline calls , 120 mobile mins plus your £10 credit to use on other things. Used it myself last year instead of a landline as virgin media wanted £17 for line rental plus £15 for call allowence.
You can pick the sims up in poundshop ect , I found the first month you only neaded to top up £5 to get the bundle.
Just switched my broadband to Virgin Media & thought I might do the same with my phone. But the PAYG call charges are crazy compared to 3.

Just to clarify a few things on here...
1. You need to top up a minimum of £10 a month to opt in for any of the PAYG packages. Free credit does not apply.
1a. This means you would still need to top up £10, get £5 free and then opt in.
2. Call charges can be quite high, unless you opt in for one of the PAYG packages, and even then - for £10 a month, you could be on a rolling month sim only plan giving you 2500 minutes, Unlimited Texts, 1GB data and unlimited calls to 08 numbers. The £5 sim only tariff gives you 250 minutes, unlimited texts, 250MB of data. Still fine for low users.
3. If you move from PAYG to sim only, any credit on your number will be transferred across which would go towards your 1st, or even up to your 3rd bill.
4. Avoid places like Poundland to get your sim cards. Many of these places, order so many sim cards that if the number hasn't been 'activated' within a year, they are removed from the system. The sim cards are free online / in store - you're only paying for credit.

I'm assuming a timeframe has been accidentally omitted from deal title, or do the allowances not expire until exhausted ?

Use virgin broadband so whole family enjoy unlimited texts, 600 minutes calls and 1GB data for £7.50 a month on a monthly rolling contract.

The 'Buy £5 get £5 free' is an offer for those taking out a new PAYG number.
