I got this from a Robert Dyas offer on here last year (came to less than £40 delivered).
I've used it every day since and find it excellent. I can't really see any downsides or how it could be significantly bettered, particularly at this price. It comes with only one set of blades (I think the expensive Nutribullets may come with a spare blade base ?). It seems solid enough and well made with good rubber suction feet that stop it vibrating on the kitchen surface.
It's very powerful at 1000w and demolishes frozen fruit / ice / nuts etc. in seconds and leaves no little bits (eg nuts) either .. just a smooth liquid to drink :-).
However it is best to add liquid to frozen fruit/veg etc to keep the smoothie at least pourable, otherwise you end up with a thick paste that the motor will slow slightly and get quite hot. I use semi or skimmed milk, Almond milk or Coconut milk for this rather than water.
It comes with three beakers, the largest being 1 litre ... so this is an advantage if you want to make smoothies for two !
I find it very easy to clean
My tips would be :
1. Never overfill it - best to keep under the three- quarter mark of the beakers.
2. Screw the beakers into the bade base quite tightly as they can loosen during blending (and leak)
3. Never use it for more than 30 seconds at a time (as per instructions) - that is plenty anyway.
4. Rinse the blades straight away after blending
5. Keep the outer sealing ring in the blade base clean (it's like a white silicone sealing ring)
6. To blend you either push and hold the beaker down for a few seconds or you can push and twist clockwise to lock the beaker in the blend position and remove you hand while it blends. Be careful when untwisting (to stop the blending) that you don't lift the beaker at the same time before the blades have fully stopped. I've done this a few times initially and it can grates/grind the contact points between the bottom of the beaker unit and the main unit.
7. There are three white plastics slots on the base unit that push down when the beaker+blades is attached for blending. These can occasionally get sticky (from leaks) and stiff. Every now and again they need cleaning by dabbing / pushing with hot water and kitchen roll - MAKE SURE UNIT IS OFF AT THE MAINS WHEN DOING THIS !!

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it keeps leaking when blending.
I make sure it's tight but no matter what I do it seems to work loose!
Tried holding it just pushed down, locking it in and leaving it. After about 10 seconds works its way loose and starts leaking out.
Any tips?

Never fill more than two thirds of the beaker (keep below the marker) and always screw the base on tightly. Do not use very warm / hot fluids. Heat up afterwards if needed. If all that fails I would return it as faulty.

These blenders just are not just about blending fruits, they blend a range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, spices, etc a lot of which you simply would not pick up and eat on there own.(see previous post)
blending variations of these raw ingredients can give a good range and high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals that are essential for a healthy body and mind, and at levels you would not get from processed or cooked food or eating the odd banana, orange or apple etc
So you are entitled to your opinion on whether Blending fruit and VEG etc is or isn't a healthy thing to do, but I believe these are an excellent accessory for a healthy life.

So what is wrong with turning fruit and veg into drink form that encourages people to consume fruit and veg that they would otherwise avoid. I personally and it is a personal thing now consume more fruit and veg than I did before I owned one of these blenders which can not be a bad thing. Different people have different views so let us get on with it the way we want to.
Months ago I read a report that stated that taking satins could help to reduce the risk of heart failure, today in my mail box I've just had a mail that tells me that new research disputes this and may contribute. Whose right and who is wrong?

I have no intention of hauling myself up onto my soapbox again but just to point out both lemon and Lime add a tangy flavour taking the edge off MY green juice.
Lemon juice has an alkalising effect on the body while Lime has the opposite (Acidic) effect .
Given a choice I'd rather have tangy tasting alkalising flavours than a tangy tasting acidifying flavour in my juice.
You might of course prefer the full acidic treatment and just juice up on pure fruit. You wouldn't need the lemon then.
To make alkaline water all that is required is a few drops of lemon ( yes lemon ) in a bottle of water which can then be allowed to stand still for equilibrium to be reached before drinking
Apologies if my previous hocus-pocus comment irked you.

apparently the Tower Vitablend Pro ( also now remarketed as the Xtreme Pro in B&M stores ) is a rebrand of this Salter Nutri Pro
and as for the 1000 watt/1200 watt debate the discrepancy is likely to be due to the variance in operating voltage 220-240Volts
I could be wrong

I would say one of the main factors is the wattage of the motor with the higher ones handling ice and harder items more easily. Although I find my 300W one ok, it does strain/smell/make noises so I think the 1000W ones will cope much better.

hmm ok for fleshy fruit but for veg neither the Breville Active or the Aldi Variant can hold a torch to this .I almost exclusively green juice and use both the Aldi & breville versions now from using Kenwood 2Go's from several years ago . I find them a bit lacking in power when shredding veg , and have to shake and invert as I pulse, but the bottle designs are practical for use on the move especially as I do a lot of outdoor physical drills. One of the girls I work with who 's serious about juicing too bought this Salter a few days ago and we tried it ..Amazing.. results!! I find that with the Breville and Aldi units you get a separation ( sedimentation due to the coarser blend) after allowing to sit for about 1/2 hour and therefore have to shake the bottle to stir the mix to consistency . Not so with this Salter , the purees so smooth there is absolutely no separation/sedimentation after 2hrs..I wouldn't recommend leaving the juice that long before finishing it unless you intend to drop in uncrushed ice-cubes to preserve it longer
Yes I think for soft fruit the lower-powered ( 250-350 watt) machines are ok. But for artichoke outerleaves /bitter gooseberries / kale and other hardier greens etc, the 1000 watt power comes in handy for attaining a homogenous mix.
By the way sugar is sugar whether it's palm-sugar or fruit sugar so for folks getting into the juicing scene be careful how much fruit you stuff into your blend not to mention the PH lowering (acidity) effect of so much sugar
I almost exclusively err toward pure green juicing .. having done so daily for the past 7 years ..I add a few drops of Tesco lemon to take the edge off the "green" taste of green juice.Besides the lemon has an alkalising net effect on the body which green juicing is all about
Ok I'll climb down from my soapbox now.
Thanks

I think the clue is in the word Blend have you tried picking up and eating;
2 handfuls of lettuce
1 ripe pear with Skin On
1 tsp cinnamon
2cm of ginger root
1/2 a banana
1/2 tsp nutmeg
and about 100mls of Almond milk
Alas not to appealing or appetizing
But hey presto Blend together
and you get a Healthy Nutritious Drink

Well I was sceptical when I bought my breville active blend at the end of the summer for about £15. I have to say though that given the fact they are really easy to clean and I have got into the routine of buying fruit during my shop then its really not that much effort. I prefer it to just having a banana as well. One thing that has helped is freezing the majority of fruit which means I don't have the issue of things going off if I skip a day. Also discovered the pre-frozen packs of fruit are better value than fresh and cut down on prep/mess.
So given the breville is 300W I will be upgrading to a more powerful machine like this soon.

I agree but many people live on junk food. They don't realise the benefit of having a healthy balanced diet or they do realise it but just simply can't make the change
We all fall into bad habits and some peoples bad habit is eating junk food. Breaking that bad habit is the hard part for many people. Reaching for chocolate or an unhealthy snack is far more tasiter and easier for them than buying fruit & veg and taking the time to cook it or prepare it.
At least with these blenders its quick and easy and they can drink them fast and get some of the benefit, that they probably would never have got, if they didn't blend all those foods up
thecresta
13 Jan 161#98
The "honest truth" is - if eating a reasonable amount of fruit and veg with your meals is a chore then *effort* is the problem, therefore this gadget / fad is just going to work it's way into the back of the cupboard and forgotten about.
Besides - if they hardly eat any vegetables, what do their meals consist of? Even if this is used once a day, it isn't going to undo the damaged caused by an unhealthy diet.
But with a little thought into the ingredients and used as part of a healthy diet, yes, I'm sure this will be of some benefit.

'nutrition extracting'
Eating a whole piece of food contains exactly the same nutrition as eating it blended.
Utter tosh.
stapsell to Cameron92
12 Jan 161#40
You might wanty to read up on this. Fruit juices and smoothies have had the sugar mechanically beaten out of the pulp. Your body therefore absorbs the full sugar content. When eating whole fruits a large amount of the sugars comes out the other end, without being absorbed. Identical foods which are processed or cooked differently have different properties. Fruit is good, smoothies are bad (and fruit juice consumption linked to increased rates of diabetes, whilst fruit consumption reduced rates), Meanwhile, blending soups may actually slow absorption...

N1AK to Cameron92
12 Jan 16#78
It's marketing speak for sure but you're massively underestimating the complexity of the human digestive system. We don't extract 100% of the nutrients from food we consume. Things like blending can change the proportion absorbed (in fact one downside of smoothies is that they increase the proportion of the sugar you can absorb and you do it faster), other things you eat or drink can also impact on how much of the nutrition you extract from food.

12 Jan 164#52
one of the points of all blenders is that you add water to them to facilitate the blending... this, in turn, reduces the amount of sugar as itt's diluted... the biggest positive component of the blending fad is that it encourages people who might resist fruits and vegetables to actually have a go and ween them off processed crud in preference... anything that is 'good' for you can be abused in the wrong quantities but at least blending opens the door to trying out soups, sauces and even pestos that would usually come pre-cooked, pre-packed and presumably, worse. don't be a nay-sayer just to prove your own haughty superiority. and a hot deal is a hot deal. compared to the nutri range, this is a hot deal...

Can apply that logic to all foods and diets, it's all about balance and moderation.
These blends /smoothies can be very healthy as part of a balanced diet, whereas cake (for example) is unlikely to be part of a healthy diet.

Until someone substitutes entire meals for fruit based smoothies because it's "healthier", not realising that sugar is still sugar even if it's fructose. And you can cram more into your gob as a liquid without feeling full than you can in cake form.

Picked up one of these before Christmas at The Range for £29.99, been really pleased with it, used it at least weekly but more recently daily. Does ice and frozen fruit effortlessly. Most blends take less than 10 seconds, it's very easy to clean, and you don't need to hold it as it blends (though I tend to as it's so quick). Would have been happy with it at twice the price. only criticism would be that the portable cup lids are a bit silly, the flip up lid kept hitting me on the nose when I used it as it would flip back down! Just enjoying pear, apple, cucumber and orange juice drink right now made from it

I bought the ninja on offer from john lewis 2 yr gtee and price match. I was told if anything goes wrong with it they dont send it for repair, they give you a brand new one in store.

I make sure it's tight but no matter what I do it seems to work loose!
Tried holding it just pushed down, locking it in and leaving it. After about 10 seconds works its way loose and starts leaking out.
Any tips?

blending variations of these raw ingredients can give a good range and high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals that are essential for a healthy body and mind, and at levels you would not get from processed or cooked food or eating the odd banana, orange or apple etc
So you are entitled to your opinion on whether Blending fruit and VEG etc is or isn't a healthy thing to do, but I believe these are an excellent accessory for a healthy life.
Months ago I read a report that stated that taking satins could help to reduce the risk of heart failure, today in my mail box I've just had a mail that tells me that new research disputes this and may contribute. Whose right and who is wrong?
This fad for 'smoothies' has convinced many they're some sort of wonderful, healthy thing... when they're really not.
Ciao
apparently the Tower Vitablend Pro ( also now remarketed as the Xtreme Pro in B&M stores ) is a rebrand of this Salter Nutri Pro
and as for the 1000 watt/1200 watt debate the discrepancy is likely to be due to the variance in operating voltage 220-240Volts
I could be wrong
Just gutted I missed the £16.** Homebase offer!
Walthamstow Homebase store showing one Tower Vtiablend Pro but won't sell asit's a display model :disappointed:
Thanks
2 handfuls of lettuce
1 ripe pear with Skin On
1 tsp cinnamon
2cm of ginger root
1/2 a banana
1/2 tsp nutmeg
and about 100mls of Almond milk
Alas not to appealing or appetizing
But hey presto Blend together
and you get a Healthy Nutritious Drink
So given the breville is 300W I will be upgrading to a more powerful machine like this soon.
Not a lot of effort to pick up a banana and eat it. But people struggle to do that. How will using a blender help?
It's not going to get used if you're not committed to improving your diet.
I believe the point (for most people) is a blend of fruit and veg, just so you know. And if the choice is fresh fruit and veg or a processed meal/cake/whatever then it's clear which ones are going to be better for you

stores still have stock
We all fall into bad habits and some peoples bad habit is eating junk food. Breaking that bad habit is the hard part for many people. Reaching for chocolate or an unhealthy snack is far more tasiter and easier for them than buying fruit & veg and taking the time to cook it or prepare it.
At least with these blenders its quick and easy and they can drink them fast and get some of the benefit, that they probably would never have got, if they didn't blend all those foods up
Besides - if they hardly eat any vegetables, what do their meals consist of? Even if this is used once a day, it isn't going to undo the damaged caused by an unhealthy diet.
But with a little thought into the ingredients and used as part of a healthy diet, yes, I'm sure this will be of some benefit.
