I've used it every day since and find it excellent. I can't really see any downsides or how it could be significantly bettered, particularly at this price. It comes with only one set of blades (I think the expensive Nutribullets may come with a spare blade base ?). It seems solid enough and well made with good rubber suction feet that stop it vibrating on the kitchen surface.

It's very powerful at 1000w and demolishes frozen fruit / ice / nuts etc. in seconds and leaves no little bits (eg nuts) either .. just a smooth liquid to drink :-).

However it is best to add liquid to frozen fruit/veg etc to keep the smoothie at least pourable, otherwise you end up with a thick paste that the motor will slow slightly and get quite hot. I use semi or skimmed milk, Almond milk or Coconut milk for this rather than water.

It comes with three beakers, the largest being 1 litre ... so this is an advantage if you want to make smoothies for two !

I was always told you needed a 1000w motor to do frozen fruit and ice but the 300w breville deals with it easily

Picked up one of these before Christmas at The Range for £29.99, been really pleased with it, used it at least weekly but more recently daily. Does ice and frozen fruit effortlessly. Most blends take less than 10 seconds, it's very easy to clean, and you don't need to hold it as it blends (though I tend to as it's so quick). Would have been happy with it at twice the price. only criticism would be that the portable cup lids are a bit silly, the flip up lid kept hitting me on the nose when I used it as it would flip back down! Just enjoying pear, apple, cucumber and orange juice drink right now made from it :smiley:

It's a perfect component for your shakes, add anything to it afterwards, seems a good way of getting your carbs/fats/proteins in a drink... not just fruit and veg!

Until someone substitutes entire meals for fruit based smoothies because it's "healthier", not realising that sugar is still sugar even if it's fructose. And you can cram more into your gob as a liquid without feeling full than you can in cake form.

As always, it comes down to making educated food choices, this is just a tool.

Can apply that logic to all foods and diets, it's all about balance and moderation.

These blends /smoothies can be very healthy as part of a balanced diet, whereas cake (for example) is unlikely to be part of a healthy diet.

Having said that, I use ours for nuttella and ice cream milkshakes quite often - just because! :smirk:

I have this model, its powerful, from a design point of view when the remove the cup from the unit it can slightly undo and leak. If this happens it leaks into the motor as there are gaps in the unit. Warranty would be voided if this caused the motor to fail.

I brought this from Wilko for £40 for xmas I am very impressed with it and it's used everyday ...

i know this is 1000w but if anyone is after something cheaper and dont mind a lower wattage lidl have one for £25 this week it's 700w so its higher than the nutrabullet but oviously less powerfull than this one

Salter is a British brand that's been around for over 250 years (a proper well known brand) so much more of a feelgood factor for me.

Some people are on a mad hype a smoothie with fruit and veg is good for you don't get it twisted. A pork pie a 200 gram of bag of Doritos, tub of Ben and Jeri's and a dominoes pizza is not. You raise another good point - blending fruit and veg to death increases their glycaemic index compared to eating them raw/ with minimal processing.

I have been using a Breville blend active for ages now and that is designed to crush ice, only has a 300W motor. So I'm not certain you are right there.

But eating zero raw veg and fruit because you can't be arsed with it vs having a smoothie a day. I know what's better.

one of the points of all blenders is that you add water to them to facilitate the blending... this, in turn, reduces the amount of sugar as itt's diluted... the biggest positive component of the blending fad is that it encourages people who might resist fruits and vegetables to actually have a go and ween them off processed crud in preference... anything that is 'good' for you can be abused in the wrong quantities but at least blending opens the door to trying out soups, sauces and even pestos that would usually come pre-cooked, pre-packed and presumably, worse. don't be a nay-sayer just to prove your own haughty superiority. and a hot deal is a hot deal. compared to the nutri range, this is a hot deal...

Currently got the Breville Active blend and just dont think it cuts the mustard or the blueberries in this case! Always have full berries left and chunks of ice left. I do love the slim style of the bottle though.

What tech review? Bet they were being paid by one of the manufacturers to say that. I had an old fashioned 200w Morphy Richards smoothie maker that I used for ice and frozen fruit for nearly a decade and it never burnt out, I gave it to a family member after I got a Breville BlendActive as a present since it was more compact - no issues so far with that either after a year of ice and frozen fruit...

Even if we were seeded here by a superior race I don't think there's a debate on cave dwelling.

The "honest truth" is - if eating a reasonable amount of fruit and veg with your meals is a chore then *effort* is the problem, therefore this gadget / fad is just going to work it's way into the back of the cupboard and forgotten about.
Besides - if they hardly eat any vegetables, what do their meals consist of? Even if this is used once a day, it isn't going to undo the damaged caused by an unhealthy diet.
But with a little thought into the ingredients and used as part of a healthy diet, yes, I'm sure this will be of some benefit.

We all fall into bad habits and some peoples bad habit is eating junk food. Breaking that bad habit is the hard part for many people. Reaching for chocolate or an unhealthy snack is far more tasiter and easier for them than buying fruit & veg and taking the time to cook it or prepare it.

At least with these blenders its quick and easy and they can drink them fast and get some of the benefit, that they probably would never have got, if they didn't blend all those foods up

Spend £40 on fruit, eat said fruit, your body will blend it for you.

These blenders still require you to prepare the fruit and veg beforehand. Then there's all the cleaning up afterwards. Add to that the high cost of buying fresh ingredients. So it's still going to be far easier, cheaper and tastier to grab that chocolate bar.

IMO, yes, eating fresh veg and fruit is great but many do not, a friend of mine has a kid that likes Chicken nuggets, cheese pizza, garlic bread, milk turnip, yorkshire puds, and nuttela, so every day its a combo of these foods, she introduced smoothies about a year ago, hiding things in a nuttela and milk smoothie, now he is starting to eat veg, peas carrots cabbage, beans, tuna, chicken, rice, carrot and coriander soup the smoothies gave him vitamins her would not eat as well as making his taste change and him accepting a wider range of food

Someone said that blending to extremes reduces the fibre content of fruit and veg. I add some Psyllium Husks to the ,smoothie for extra fibre which makes it slightly thicker but does not alter the taste,

Performance and versatility the Vitamix, you can do so much more with it but convenience and small quantities the NutriBullet.

Not a lot of effort to prepare ingredients, easy to clean, matter of seconds, fresh ingredients not expensive, don't know where you shop and much healthier than that chocolate bar.

I think you're missing the point here.
Not a lot of effort to pick up a banana and eat it. But people struggle to do that. How will using a blender help?

Well I was sceptical when I bought my breville active blend at the end of the summer for about £15. I have to say though that given the fact they are really easy to clean and I have got into the routine of buying fruit during my shop then its really not that much effort. I prefer it to just having a banana as well. One thing that has helped is freezing the majority of fruit which means I don't have the issue of things going off if I skip a day. Also discovered the pre-frozen packs of fruit are better value than fresh and cut down on prep/mess.

So given the breville is 300W I will be upgrading to a more powerful machine like this soon.

I think the clue is in the word Blend have you tried picking up and eating;
2 handfuls of lettuce
1 ripe pear with Skin On
1 tsp cinnamon
2cm of ginger root
1/2 a banana
1/2 tsp nutmeg
and about 100mls of Almond milk
Alas not to appealing or appetizing
But hey presto Blend together
and you get a Healthy Nutritious Drink

I got a version of this in Aldi for £15 (not nutri brand) and worked exactly the same! Not worth paying over the odds for one of these when u can get the EXACT same for less without the branded name

apparently the Tower Vitablend Pro ( also now remarketed as the Xtreme Pro in B&M stores ) is a rebrand of this Salter Nutri Pro
and as for the 1000 watt/1200 watt debate the discrepancy is likely to be due to the variance in operating voltage 220-240Volts

Sugar is sugar yes but the pH diet stuff is all nonsense. I don't see how a few drops of lemon juice can alter my body's alkalinity/pH etc.

I have no intention of hauling myself up onto my soapbox again but just to point out both lemon and Lime add a tangy flavour taking the edge off MY green juice.
Lemon juice has an alkalising effect on the body while Lime has the opposite (Acidic) effect .

Given a choice I'd rather have tangy tasting alkalising flavours than a tangy tasting acidifying flavour in my juice.
You might of course prefer the full acidic treatment and just juice up on pure fruit. You wouldn't need the lemon then.
To make alkaline water all that is required is a few drops of lemon ( yes lemon ) in a bottle of water which can then be allowed to stand still for equilibrium to be reached before drinking

Not really... blending fruits is in no way 'healthy' compared to simply just eating a piece of fruit.
This fad for 'smoothies' has convinced many they're some sort of wonderful, healthy thing... when they're really not.

So what is wrong with turning fruit and veg into drink form that encourages people to consume fruit and veg that they would otherwise avoid. I personally and it is a personal thing now consume more fruit and veg than I did before I owned one of these blenders which can not be a bad thing. Different people have different views so let us get on with it the way we want to.
Months ago I read a report that stated that taking satins could help to reduce the risk of heart failure, today in my mail box I've just had a mail that tells me that new research disputes this and may contribute. Whose right and who is wrong?

These blenders just are not just about blending fruits, they blend a range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, spices, etc a lot of which you simply would not pick up and eat on there own.(see previous post)
blending variations of these raw ingredients can give a good range and high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals that are essential for a healthy body and mind, and at levels you would not get from processed or cooked food or eating the odd banana, orange or apple etc
So you are entitled to your opinion on whether Blending fruit and VEG etc is or isn't a healthy thing to do, but I believe these are an excellent accessory for a healthy life.
