I have this game, hated it I have to be honest, but it would be rude not to try it at this price. I much preferred Oblivion, I found the scenery to have all of the colour washed out of it unlike Oblivion which was vibrant in comparison to this game.

There's are thousands and thousands of mods available for skyrim. If you're playing it vanilla, you're really doing yourself a disservice. I have about 50 running currently, but haven't been on on a while. I'm sure there are probably another 50 I'd like to add when I get round to it.

£2.49 for standard, £4.99 for legendary has become the standard sale price on Steam. It's on sale now, but it's been at this price for weeks. It's also been at this price a few times before

I remember making it look stunning on my old gpu. The settings didn't really port to my new card (980ti), but really tempted to give it another go.

I've bought this in one of last year's sales. Haven't started it yet nor played any of the previous elder scrolls titles. Are you suggesting that you should mod it straight away for the best experience? There are so many mods it's difficult to know where to start for a novice too.

Graphically yes. As the poster above showered some of the textures you can get are amazing. Other than that, you can add game play related ones as you go along if you find game play mechanics or what not you'd like to alter.
I start with extra clothes, hair and face options, new weapons and such. The last o played o made the world star wars related. I turned the moon into the wreck of the death star, I had a black cloak with lightsabre, and would come across jedi and sith in random encounters along my travels.
A poster who complained earlier about it being grey and dull looking, someone a few years back created a mod that turned the entire world into a tropical paradise. Ala far cry really.
There really is a mod for every mood and desire.

So let's say you have a new standard 8gb toshiba memory laptop and you know nothing about graphics cards. (Can't run space engineers...) For a game like this with mods quality textures etc, should I just chuck my laptop away now or it there hope if I start attaching stuff to it?

You might be able to play the game on it's own without mods etc if you turn down the graphics, but I wouldn't hold out any hope for getting graphics mods working, they can strain even the most powerful computers

What operating system are you running? If Win 7 go to: Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System.
Make a note of the processor and post it here or pm me.
Then go to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sounds > Devices and Printers > Device Manager. Expand "Display Adapters" and you'll probably have something like "Intel Graphics". Make a note of that and post it. Also, if there's another entry such as Nvidia or AMD or Radeon, make a note of it and post it here (or pm me).
From that information we can get a pretty accurate indication of whether your pc will run the game.
I'm not using Win 8 or 10 so am not exactly sure but you should be able to find the required results by using similar entries.

For anyone intending to mod- I would recommend buying the legendary edition or one with the DLC because many mods require assets from them. I originally bought Skyrim on its own but later bought the legendary edition for the DLC; essentially paying for the base game twice.
Anyway, really recommend this game and do give it a try with mods (even if only with texture enhancements). It's a fairly old game now so should run very smoothly with most modern GPUs.

I think you can get all that info from dxdiag in one screen (start, run (or Windows key + R) type dxdiag and enter)
Opening post
For PC only.
(Personally clicked on this deal to only find out this is not the PS3 version!) :|
