First up, credit to AlexM14 who posted the Z5 deal from Fonehouse. While checking out that site I noticed that the Z5C is also at a very nice price for SIM free. The next best price I can find for SIM free is £359.99 at GifGaf. There is a fiver Quidco too. Looks like only black is available though.

Our best smartphone innovations in a compact size
With Xperia Z5 Compact, the question isn’t just what you can do with your smartphone. It’s what else you can do. Our best compact smartphone has all the features of the big guys, but it’s designed to slip right into real life. With colours that match your style. Innovations that keep interruptions at bay. And a 4.6” design that hits the sweet spot in size.

All eyes on your phone
Xperia Z5 Compact’s comfortable compact size is matched with vivid colours and eye-catching design elements. Like precision debossing on the frame and a frosted glass back that’s smooth to the touch.

Sony’s waterproof design takes the worry out of wet
A little water shouldn’t be a big deal. Xperia Z5 Compact is built to withstand the splashes that are a part of everyday life. So you can relax about sudden spills or unexpected showers.

The phone that knows it’s you
Xperia Z5 Compact’s power button has an integrated fingerprint sensor. The button is intuitively placed on the side of the phone, so you’re able to pick up and unlock in a single movement.

All the best Sony camera technologies, in a compact smartphone
Xperia Z5 Compact is built with the same technologies as Sony’s leading digital cameras. We’ve added super-fast autofocus and sharper zoom to our 23-megapixel smartphone camera. For pictures that are sharper and clearer than ever.

With our fastest autofocus, you never miss the moment
Mid-air poses and must-share pet antics. Xperia Z5 Compact snaps the instant you want, not the one after. Taking its cue from DSLR cameras, our new autofocus is super-fast (0.03 sec) and super accurate.

Make the days last longer with a two-day battery
Xperia Z5 Compact brings you up to two days** of power from a single charge. When you do need topping up, Xperia Z5 Compact has Quick Charge capabilities to get you hours of power in just 10 minutes.

I think it depends on the size you want your phone to be. these new phones are to big, I have Z3C and love the size as you can use one handed. voted hot!

It's nowhere near that simple, you have to weigh up the considerable differences between mobile operating systems. The iPhone 6 uses IOS which is simple and just works and has a huge amount of apps. Android is cumbersome, varies significantly between manufacturers, can sometimes be an abysmal random experience, but when it does work it affords you an open system with a level of customisation that IOS just can't do. There's also a huge amount of apps on Android. Android allows you to do stuff such as Airdroid, Autotask in conjunction with Tasker. Lots of automated tasks, hacking, customisation. However when Android stinks it really stinks. It's the least polished mobile OS and sometimes has a mind of its own.

So do you want a phone that works and is possible depending on your perception - boring

Or do you want a phone that works but sometimes goes a bit schizophrenic, but an OS you can customise until the cows come home.

Personally I like and use all current main mobile OS's.

Battery life and size are great but don't be fooled by the Sony camera hype, it's not all that. I had to return one as a 2yr old Samsung S4 took better pics and I couldn't live with the camera on Z5 compact. Don't take my word for it check online reviews. Nexus 6P or Samsung S6 might be a better option for some.

Having owned a 6P, the camera isn't all that. It's much slower at focusing and at taking pictures. Low light isn't all that great either.

S6 camera is great, nothing to really complain about on it

Had about 6 Sony phones over the years, last one being a Z3C which I've just got rid of because the build quality, screen kept detaching from the phone. I got an Honor 7 instead which has been brilliant so far.

I'm with you mate. Have always bought my last 3 phones sim free and all have lasted 3 years, being htcs. My Z1C wasnt waterproof after 6 months and limped to its very complete death at 18months old. Fell to bits and components started to fail.
Went and bought a moto g instead this time. 350+ quid for 18 months of careful use is a joke...

It uses the Sony Exmor IMX300 sensor which is large and very good in low light, so much so apparently Samsung want to ditch theirs and use it in their Galaxy 7.

Check out the 1:1 samples at GSMArena - Sony Xperia Z5 Compact review, it's no slouch.

Samsung used Sony sensors in the very first S6 phones, got reviews then changed to their own ISOCELL sensors. My S6 uses an ISOCELL. I can see them doing the same thing with the S7, getting what they can from Sony and then changing to BRITECELL. However their BRITECELL tech is 12Mp and not 23.7Mp so people would know. So far I've seen the BRITECELL being used, which might not go down well with the more megapixels is better brigade, as this means a perceived specification drop from 16Mp to 12Mp.

Don't get me wrong I loved the phone until I tried to use the camera. The Z5C images were blurry around the edges because it has a wider angle lens which some users have suggested is badly aligned and I tend to agree. I just wish I had checked Google properly before wasting my time. Such a shame in my opinion. If you don't care about the camera too much then this is a great phone otherwise.

How on earth is Android cumbersome? I honestly don't see how you can say that about any version over the last three or four years. iOS is so limited and cumbersome I get frustrated trying to use it for even a minute or two, and that's not remotely an exaggeration!

Android works. It works really well. And you can do whatever you want with it (which on a device costing several hundred pounds, I blimmin' well expect it to - and would be horrified paying double and being able to do more than half less with it).

People with camera blur seem to have had success getting the phone returned or replaced so shouldn't be a problem if the lens is not aligned properly.

Got the Z3 here and the camera is amazing! Can't be beaten for a bloke who wants phone and camera in one pocket, it's point and shoot camera and waterproof. Took my Z3 all over Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and we got some awesome pictures. We only needed the proper camera when we needed to zoom in. Device worked flawlessly in sweltering humid heat and even worked after being dropped in swimming pool. Someone who says camera is rubbish must have had dodgy device.

I have other gripes in general with Android but that is another issue... but the camera and device is great! Wouldn't mind the Z5C myself as the Z3 is just too big.

8 Jan 16 2 #29
It's not much use if you want a compact though is it? I am amazed that people do not understand that there is a whole bunch of us that want a flagship phone with high spec internals that has a screen below 5 inches. You seem to be suggesting people pay more money for a thing they don't want!

Never buy a Sony again. I bought a z3 compact for £280 about 4 months ago and since then it's been back for a headphone jack repair as it was just totally **** and the charging flap kept popping open making it non waterproof.

Just a pain in the ass phone, holding on to it because it's so damn quick and I need a <5" phone. Battery life is also amazing though.

Weird, I've just had a problem with the headphone jack on my Z3 compact. Have just sent it back to Sony for repair, had it for well under 12 months and have always treated it with care. Would certainly think twice about buying Sony again - shame, because otherwise it has been a good little phone.

I've owned my Z1 Compact for almost two years now (got it near launch), and besides the battery needing a replacement a few months ago, it's been a fantastic little device. However, my boyfriend has the Z3 Compact and the build quality doesn't seem as good. The flap for the USB port came off almost immediately and to me the device doesn't seem as nice as my phone. I'll will be looking at reviews before buying the Z5 Compact but this is a great price for sim free right after launch. Voted hot!

Had a Z1 compact and after 18 months it started to fall apart, headphone jack stopped working, speaker grille and power button ring came off, battery died below 50% and the back started to come off. Really disappointed with it completely off Sony now.

But when it did work the battery was amazing, but the camera didn't live up to the hype.
sopski
9 Jan 16 1 #45
I honestly don't know why everybody is hating on the Z3C, seems like I'm the only one who is actually satisfied with their phone. Ive had it for 18 months, had one issue with calls not being heard from the other end. Spoke to Sony who advised turning Google Speech recognition off, problem solved.

People who are complaining that the 20.1 megapixel camera isn't good enough. Well, I suggest you should probably buy yourself a digital camera if that's what you're bothered about.

To those of you complaining about the flaps, please, use your common sense. If your constantly charging you phone undoing the flaps constantly, you're gonna see a bit of wear. Be careful, or at the very least get the magnetic charger dock. Then there's no need to be constantly undoing them. Sony have given you an option precisely because they know that could happen. If you don't use it well, don't blame the phone.

I agree that sometimes the OS can be a little clunky but seriously, I've seen worse and they're very good at updating with Android itself.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Sony FanGirl, the only other gadget I've got from Sony is my camcorder and I'm an xboner. But credit where it's due, the phone isn't awful, just because you've had a bad experience doesn't mean the product is inherently wrong.
