Is it good for gaming? Desperate to replace my ageing Panasonic G20 to cut my electric bill down

I have no first hand experience with this TV but saw this in the AVForums conclusion...
"The UHD 4K performance was excellent, the black levels good for an LCD TV and the video processing was impressive. As a result even non-4K content looked great and the input lag was extremely low, making it ideal for responsive gaming."

I'm in the same boat too! a 500 watt TV plus Av amp is probably costing me something like £200 extra a year compared to a new LED one. It's a shame, I love the plasma picture quality and response time, but can't continue to waste so much electricity. I'm looking to buy in the next few months once the extra heating isn't needed in the lounge
edit: Yes, I suspect the TV is on for as much as 14 hours a day - yikes!

I replaced a 50" VT Series Panasonic Plasma (that had died) with one of these....
I wasn't expecting to be impressed but it's exceeded my expectations...SD, HD and 4K look great..
Upscaling is very impressive and even manages to add depth to 1080p sources giving them an almost 3D like quality.
really really pleased with it...and I paid £900 6mths ago!

Does anyone know if John Lewis will price match?

I don't think they will as Appliance Electronics appears to just be an online retailer, worth a try though, they can only say no...

It's becoming increasingly difficult to get price matches from JL recently. I have had 4 refused, sometimes because the competitor didn't deliver to second floor premises or they charged for returns first and then refunded you. Price is not what it's about any more.

Is this the best tv for the price I can buy atm? Been looking for a few weeks now and there's been barely any deals... Was going to get the Sony with NowTV package deal from Amazon but then the price shot up :-/
I have a Samsung UE46F6400 atm and the clouding is terrible so reluctant to go Samsung again!

I have been interested in the Samsung UE55JU6800 refurb on eBay at same price. Any opinions of the TV??

samsungs own IPS panel, poor motion and higher input lag.
These are two of the few sources i found to convince me that the 6400 was the tv for me.
I would have gone for the 7500 series but at nearly double the price (still need another gtx 980) that option was out of the question.
Hot deal, mine arrived today from Very for £686 and that was with their 20% discount credit offer too.

This review is putting me off a little: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ju6400 mainly the "Judder is present while watching movies even in 24p"
I have been considering the 40" version

The TV pictured in that review looks different to mine...(well the stand certainly is) as it's a US site is the model exactly the same? Might be worth checking further as that review is the polar opposite to the AVForums review (a UK site) https://www.avforums.com/review/samsung-ue55ju6400-uhd-review.11288
AVForums praised the out of the box settings stating it barely needed calibration yet the rtings site states it's settings are some of the worst it has tested out of the box.....

Have you got this tv bud? Is it really that bad for movies as in review cheers

only just got home from work, box is almost as big as my front door, havent set it up yet, will test it before i put the tv in its rightful place. Will have to dismantle my panny ut50 before i can put the tv where it needs to be.
will test in my kitchen with a hdd and some movies funnily enough so i will know how bad the judder they are talking about in the reviews.
I have got mine primarily for PC gaming and when the next Uncharted game comes out. Only then will i buy a PS4.
Will report back on the judder in an hour or two.
I have seen alot of 2nd hand 6800 on sale on ebay, kept my eye out for the 6400 series but i seldom saw any up for sale.

Have you got Netflix? If so check out the quality of the Blacklist and Narco's in 4k :smirk:
The only negative point I could say about the 6400 is that when their is no active input the black background is a little washed out and shows some backlight bleed, however it's not really an issue as it doesn't happen when an input is active.
Would have been happy to get it from RS at £749 but they didnt have it in my nearest store.
Had a 37" sammy for years with no issues, my panny ut50 still has 2 years left on it from RS and i haven't used any warranty on those two since the xbox 360 came out in 2005.
Probably gone and jinxed myself now tho :disappointed:

Are the blacks and judder bad as review says. Is there anything else to consider under a £1000. Cheers
What for? Not as good for gaming as the input lag is around 60ms vs 25ms for this Samsung according to rtings
Uridium
19 Jan 16#25
Can't say I've really noticed an issue with either to be honest. My budget at the time I bought (@£900) was £1000 and this was the best i found..newer models may have appeared in those last 6 months though.

Got The Rock in full HD at 24p(23.976) on at the moment and is there a slight judder??
Minor maybe, plenty of slow and fast camera pans on The Rock to test it but nowhere near as bad as that rtings review suggests. US review??
Tight viewing angle, yes, drift your seated position too far left or right(up and down) and the blacks start turning lighter.
The Rock does look great upscaled, i will say that much.
The TV was running 1411 firmware and i updated it ti 1440 straight away but what difference/improvements that has made i have no idea.
and that rtings review says that the tv doesnt do full 4:4:4 chroma but it does, only in hmdi port 1, have to rename the source function to PC as well, took me a while to work out why i wasnt getting it, i had a small hdmi extension cable attached to my main cable which meant that the full chroma signal wasn't being carried.
Had to turn my pc case around so the cable without the extension reached the case.
I think i have covered quite a bit, hope it has helped.

The rtings review linked earlier is incorrect as it's for the US JU6400 which is NOT the equivalent of the UK JU6400. The UK equivalent is the US JU6500.
I have the 40" model and am very happy with it. I use it as a PC monitor and for gaming and it displays 4K @ 60Hz with full chroma resolution (4:4:4) via my GTX 980 HDMI 2.0 output without any issues.

Checked out the backlight bleed and mine is pretty good, i have a AOC 34" 1440p IPS monitor too and the backlight bleed is pretty good on it, a bit in the corners but i would say my 6400 has even less. Different panel types.
Also lowered the gamma on the 6400 to -2 (only goes to -3 anyway) and it definitely made the blacks deeper.
Will miss my Panny UT50 plasma blacks but i knew what i was getting myself into
Love The Blacklist and haven't watched Narcos yet so i will get on that ASAP. Might even watch Breaking Bad again

Great price, hot from me.
I have this TV, got John Lewis to price match the co op deal a couple of weeks back from £699.99 with 5 year warranty. Fantastic TV for the money, viewings angles are not as good as my previous Samsung so if you have chairs sideways on I would recommend going to a shop beforehand to see, luckily my room is large enough that I could change things around a bit. The picture quality is great, I stream from USB and have noticed no lag but I have got the the fast motion set. DO NOT setup as per AVForums review, looked shocking and totally washed out, can't for the life on my see how that looked good in their setup but anyway. I just went through the settings one by one and setup for my living room and my eyes, everyones will be different. I can confirm no motion blur and blacks do look black (that's all I hear about this TV, boring!)
Oh and 55" is massive, I had a 40" before, I do love my 55" but make sure room is large enough, could look blurred otherwise
Just my thoughts
