From the winding cobbled lanes and picturesque courtyards of old Riga to the modern architecture and wide streets of the New Town, the lively Latvian capital is quickly establishing itself as one of Europe's top city trip destinations! A great starting point for your few days in the city is the magnificent St. Peter's Church, where if you clamber your way to the top you can look forward to incredible sweeping views of the city. Riga is jam-packed with museums and art galleries, with the city having been designated as a European Capital of Culture in 2014 owing to its art nouveau architecture, fashionable neighbourhoods and top-tapping music. Indeed, many visitors to Riga head to the Latvian capital to enjoy a rip-roaring night out, and no trip to the city would be complete without spending a couple of hours at Četri Balti Krekli ("Four White Shirts"), where only Latvian pop music is played!

I was really tempted by this but flight times of 18:45 and £50 transfer fee put me off :disappointed:

No need to pay high transfer fees. Public transport bus will take you to the city centre for about 2 Eur. The stop is just outside the airport and there are buses every 15 minutes or so.

expensive we only paid £80 for 3 nights for hotel and flight may be better going when flight prices are lower.

It's actually quite a nice city, I went with the Mrs earlier in the year and would definitely go back.

It's fairly warm right now like we are, but should be back to -20 by end of January

The barmen wear kevlar vests in some of the pubs in Riga. At least they did when I went around 7 years ago..
