Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen, bundled with stand. Thermostat alone is £199 alone on amazon and everywhere else. Stand is £29 separate. Saving of £38.
Doing the bundle for £190. Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.
Potential TCB of 5.25%, which has not tracked for me yet but is certainly within the category they specify so fingers crossed.
Been looking at one of the newer versions for a while but this is the best deal ive seen.

£190 for a thermostat?! Whatever next, a talking banana?
Got my thermostat for about £20 at the old screwfix so way cheaper.

Oh tempting, as selling the stand will pay for half the installation costs, and its £10 cheaper than the unit itself.

There are a list of Nest approved installers on their website, one of which quoted me £50, others more.
Some people say its simple to do yourself.

6 Jan 16#7
if you get it on the official nest site its £50, but from the 2 people i know who had it installed it took longer than expected due to the system they had and cost more. I'm going to give it a bash myself, looks fairly straight forward....famous last words.

Hi All - currently have a Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen (brand new - never used - but box opened) for sale - open to serious offers. It was purchased from Amazon will full receipt and warranty only a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately engineer couldn't install both hot water and heating control due to very old tank running 8v instead of 240 :disappointed:

Looks like a good deal, was about to jump but just realised Nest are owned by Google therefor unlikely to have any HomeKit support. Anyone else interested in HomeKit might want to hold out for the recently announced Honeywell thermostat.

Mine keeps going red light on the receiver which stops the schedule, then works ok for weeks. When it was installed I spent over 4 hours on the phone to BGas as it would not work properly. Turns out the account had been set up wrong. I think the Nest looks a much better unit too. More pleasing to the eye. Glad yours works well though! I have to say, when it is working well it is a great addition to the home

Willing to sell mine for £170 minimum (will include recorded delivery) - cheapest in UK anywhere brand new. Can't return as four was purchased within our family as part of a deal, and if you return one you lose the discount applied to all even if the product isn't compatible so will just sell this

If you want to truly save money be better getting the Worcester Bosch wave. The Bosch is fully weather compensating and runs the radiators cooler when there is milder weather.

I have the 2nd Gen version and it's absolutely brilliant, I would say it's one of the best things I have purchased for my home, but seeing as I didn't actually pay for it as I got it free through npower along with free installation I cant really say that
OrribleHarry
6 Jan 16#33
Me too I have several of the nest protect. However the Worcester Bosch Wave is a better system than these IMHO.
Not that these are a bad product, far from it. I just feel that the ability for the thermostat to adjust the radiators temperature as well as on/off helps with overall comfort and energy consumption.

The new nest does support open therm but actually trying to find a boiler which support the standards is neigh on impossible.
The integration with nest protect and IFTTT is crucial for me.
I was tempted to switch to evohome but it overkill.

Agreed there are some excellent products out there but trouble is you can never keep up. When we built our house we wired it "futureproof" or so we though. Structured wiring zoned heating etc but they keep bringing out cool new stuff.
I wish there was an agreed standard for everything and different products from different manufacturers would all play nice together

was contemplating this or tado? tado is cheaper and seems easier to fit....just doesn't have the fancy display of nest. If tado works though I'm not bothered as my thermostat is in the hall and I won't be staring at it all day

I was going to do the classic lazy HUKD thing and just say "Wots this do???", but decided I'd try a novel idea of actually going to the link and reading about it. Amazing, all these years and I've finally found a use for my eyes.
Anyway, I notice the description states;
"It uses built-in sensors to confirm no one's home"

I was tempted to upgrade (I have a Nest v2 and installing them is very easy), as my boiler has OpenTherm support but I went and read about the OpenTherm support in Nest and it doesnt actually seem to really support it..
Nest support (Here) says: "At this time, the Nest thermostat does not directly modulate the water temperature of your boiler. The Nest Thermostat currently uses OpenTherm to tell your boiler when to turn on and off. It will tell your boiler if the temperature in your home is falling below the target temperature, and your condensing boiler will use this information to modulate internally."
Thats what the v2 does.. when its below my set temp, it signals call for heat by sending voltage to the boiler.. I'm not sure exactly how using a different protocol instead of a relay is really an improvement.. Its not using any of the clever bits of OpenTherm..
So I dont think there would be any advantage for me.. My boiler already has weather compensation (cost me £4 for the sensor to add it), and nest works fine with it, so I think v3 is a bit of a poor upgrade unless you really need to control hot water..
Still a great deal if you dont have nest already though..

Evohome allows you to zone your house by placing their smart TRVs on all your radiators. Each one contains it's own thermostat so you can set your lounge to a nice temperature in the morning for when you come downstairs whilst turning off the bedrooms completely and therefore you don't need to heat the whole house at once or start messing with the dumb TRVs manually all the time.
It's not a cheap system. I was quoted £700 for supply and install of the boiler link, controller and 8 TRVs, but decided it would take way too long to recoup any money spent in the form of energy savings and I'm having the 3rd Gen nest being installed tomorrow

I have been looking at this for awhile did initially want the Worcester wave but need some sort of valve changing as I have unvented system.
Then was going to go with the Salus IT500 but decided not to. Got some nest smoke/co2 detectors so this would finish of the system nicely. Might just wait a bit longer. Still currently got a standard salus rf stat.
