Love these lychees but usually too pricey. Currently reduced to £3.99 per kilo so worth grabbing some.

Wrong ! They are from mainly South Africa but early ones and cheaper option is from Madagascar. The variety is what you are getting mixed up with ! The variety is "Mauritius".
Look for a plump soft skin as against a hard crisp skin which means kept at wrong temperature.
Look out for XL rather than L size also, will be on end of box in store.

I got them at £5.99 a kilo, went to get a few more when they were £3.99 a kilo and the most of the ones that we left were of v poor quality. Just trying to get rid of left over stock I think.
