i bought this received it and I am blown away! works amazingly. i have started a 2.6ltr petrol car with a complete dead battery (not even power to light led on alarm). also started a 1988 hymer camper with a big old 2.5L diesel lump in it. buy it you won't be dissatisfied

What a cheap item from China, do you work for them to post this cheap stuff? This stuff won't last 2 days, but Chinese, buy twice
alphamusic to johankirchner
11 Jan 16 #52
I understand your point, but I would rethink how you phrased that. Good luck buying almost any consumer electronics that aren't Chinese. Of course I agree that a lot of off brand Chinese stuff is a waste of money.
alphamusic
11 Jan 16 #51
Agreed, but they are both 8000mAh Force K2. The description was added to Amazon by a third party seller, so I would guess the discrepancy in peak cranking power is down to usual Chinese spec inflation, I would be very surprised if they were different models when the product name and mAh are the same.

will only work for 2 days then you have to buy a proper item, buy Chinese, buy twice

This Amazon one might be a better bet, for £4.50 more. Doublet the current supply, same capacity, plus prime delivery and the advantage of Amazon service over gearbest.

Don't think i'd trust this at all. The other cheap power banks this company (and other similar chinese based companies) sell are clearly telling some lies about their specs (too high capacity for the size, cost and weight). Don't think i'd want to be drawing such a high current from such a device.

Feel a bit safer buying from a UK supplier for more.

The people here saying they've "had one of these" was it actually this particular one? or something similar with CE markings on etc
pibpob to OFI
10 Jan 16 #45
I tend to agree, but don't put any trust in CE markings - they are but a marking which all manufacturers apply, whether they comply or not.

This might sound a little crazy but why not put the money towards fixing the underlying fault on the vehicle?
Bad Actor to marty-401
9 Jan 16 #26
A flat battery isn't faulty neither is a battery that's failed in the supermarket car park. At least with this you can get it going to drive down to Halfords and get a new battery fitted.
Happened to my wife a few weeks ago.

I had a dodgy battery and one of these stopped me being stranded several times. I did eventually get a new battery. It also came in handy for charging phone etc. as the one I've got gives out 5v, 9v, 12v, 19v.

9 Jan 16 #41
I've got a 10000mAh one - it's started my 2.0 petrol mondeo several times. I've had it for about 15 months and only had to top charge up about 3 times. You can jump start car 3 or 4 times and the power level only goes down about 10%. It also doubles as a phone/laptop powerbank. I've no idea why these aren't sold in shops like Halfords, but for what you pay - and the convenience of size, they're ideal.

I got a 16800mah pack and have used it a lot , I had a bad battery and from one charge started my diesel engined car three times before it was not able to give enough juice to start. I would say this one would start a car maybe twice if you are lucky but even then i would only rely on it starting a car once, and if the car needs to turn over a few times to start this might not be powerful enough.

The main benefit of these devices is that they are so small and fit in the car easily, can also be charged while driving but 5 hours of diving needed. I would say this is worth it but the bigger capacity for £35 on amazon is much better value.

I expect these are fine if you left your lights on and the battery isn't fully flat but I don't expect it to be able to start the old Landy that gets left at the other end of the field and only used twice a year...
mikerj to jimbob86
9 Jan 16 #36
As I mentioned before, I don't know about this specific pack (and GearBest appear to be a pretty terrible seller), but these small lithium ion jump packs can push out far more current than you'd expect. Have a look at Photonic Induction's channel on YouTube, he starts his 5L V8 Mercedes with only one of these style jump packs connected to it (no car battery at all) and also started a 1.6 diesel with a completely dead battery with ease.

GearBest are effin aweful. Had a nightmare dealing with them before christmas. They point blank refused to refund or exchange items damaged during delivery - despite me paying postage and postage insurance!

Ah! I'm assuming there is no shut off circuit at all because it would require an enormous FET. So you trade current/energy for longevity. Fair enough.

This one would probably be ok for small engines of 1.0 litre or so, It wouldn't start a mid sized car needing 400 to 600 CCA to start, I have the Anypro 600CCA and its just unbelievable what it can start..
In the last week I have been called out to start friends and relatives cars from a Clio 1.6 petrol to a BMW 4x4 4.2litre and its done the lot without a hitch including a Mercedes S class 3.4 litre without the battery attached at all.

Its still going on its original charge and I still have 3 bars lit from the 4 when its fully charged up and thats probably about 8 jumpstarts so far, the manufacturer quotes 20 jumpstarts on one charge and so far I don't disbelieve them..

Mine has a LI-Po battery in it but many will have the lower end Ni-mh
GuigsyUK to crazylegs
9 Jan 16 #22
I'm fairly sure that only LiPo batteries will work in these handheld jump devices. Nimh wouldn't be able to supply anywhere near the current required (or this level of storage capacity) unless they were as big as a house brick.

LiPo batteries can throw out an enormous amount of current. Their energy density is pretty amazing too, especially if, like this application, you aren't expecting them to do many cycles in a lifetime. The discharge circuit will let you squeeze every last mAh out of them before it shuts off. These work really well, but if you are using them every day (and recharging between), expect them to be going a bit limp after a few weeks.
andysfast to crazylegs
9 Jan 16 1 #29
Thanks for giving such good advice and information, you are correct, this one would only be good for small engines. I was amazed how good mine was as well. It wouldn't be much good for a car that just won't start and you need to crank and crank though, it's mainly good for flat battery jobs, like when an idiot (me) left the lights on or you have an older car where the radio flattens the battery if you don't start it for a few weeks. Great as an emergency charger for phones, mp3 players games consoles etc.
royals

Probably safer than jumping off of another car. Actually, why is it any worse than starting off your car battery?
Roger_Irrelevant
8 Jan 16 1 #9
Amazing if true, starting a typical Diesel can use 600 Amps at 12V, which would mean this 8Ah battery discharging in about 1 second.

For that reason I call BS, but it could be it assists the car battery supplying say 20 extra Amps at 12V.
worthinger to Roger_Irrelevant
8 Jan 16 2 #10
http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/pocket-sized-jump-starters/

Perfectly viable and work very well - this could potentially start the vehicle you describe half a dozen times.

You are confusing/comparing ah with cca and these are not equivalent.

Always get a school kid to check your maths before posting

8/600 * 3600 = 48 seconds.

These small Lithium Ion jump packs can deliver a surprising amount of current, and there are plenty of demos on YouTube of them starting big engines. However whether this particular device is any good , or whether it's liable to burst into flames I wouldn't like to say.

Another +1 for these units, they work surprisingly well for a small unit, that said however be sure to make sure the model can support the peak CCA required by your engine, this unit will do 200A which is suitable for a small engined car or bike, a 2.0L plus diesel will require 2-3x more which is a job for the 50800 unit at 600A, don't expect these to work continuous they will need topping up but will get you started in an emergency.

as a rough calculation most car batteries will provide 8-9x CCA of its capacity, so if you have a 43ah battery the capable cranking amps will be in the 360A region, the posted deal here will struggle and will probably need to be left charging you battery to assist the crank rather than working instantly. likewise a 60A battery will be good for around 540A that of a large diesel.

Before you all start I know basic calculation says these things don't work in the one I used did and does on a regular basis, It was used to start an old transit the other day and cranked over that long the croc clips on the leads actually started to melt. I was doubtful at first, Bought a WUHAI 50080. Started one of my Mercedes petrol cars no problem, even without leads being attached to the battery. Also started a Motorhome with a 3 litre diesel engine that was flat. They do work. Remember to charge every 3 months. Had a Streetwize 5 in 1 in the past that was useless.

Probably more cycles than from an ALDI lead acid equipped jump start unit left in the garage for 2 years without use - stupidly I didn't keep charging the unit, so it died on me, if this works and there's no electronic reason why it won't, it's a brilliant idea.

Lack of knowledge regarding electrics, I would imagine - low voltage high amps. I wonder how many cycles you would get from one - not that you would expect to use it very often, but not too big so ideal for motorbike.
