Which ever way you look at this it is sharp practice. My wife would have been knocking on trading standards door if they pulled this trick on her.

I see what you're saying (and I can half agree with you  ) - I think where my issue is, the price match guarantee states that you won't be charged more for the substitutions (and I wasn't) - the implication is that the substitutions will be at least as good value as the order - to give less product, at the price of more product comes across to me as disingenuous not within the spirit of what they guarantee...... it's almost a play on words to get around meeting the terms of their guarantee ..... my view is that if I order Kelloggs Fruit n Fibre at £1.99 per KG and they then charge me £2.24 per KG, they are charging me more, even if they charge the same £4.47 by supplying less.....

To be honest, I can't be bothered to argue with them for 50p - however, the damage to their reputation with me for not having done the right thing will, over time, I'm sure cost them substantially more than 50p! (My experience historically was that they would have refunded the full £4.47 - which is obviously too much and more than I expect - however their failure to refund the 50p is, IMO, going too far the other way.....). If they had refunded the 50p, I probably wouldn't even have bothered complaining again in similar situations in the future....

"You can of course, return any products along with your delivery documents to the Customer Service desk at your local Extra store for a refund or exchange."
I understand your frustration but, on balance, I'm with Tesco on this one. If you sign up for home delivery with any company you are giving up some of your opportunity to choose. Do you want them to phone you every time they can't supply exactly as ordered? Is 'the principle of it' getting in the way of your objective view of the convenience you have signed up to?

You are right - they are wrong - if the substitution policy hasn't changed. They owe you 50p (rounding to nearest penny). Might be worth checking it and quoting it back to them?

The response is in the quote isn't it? (It is showing for me)

Hi, look like your right. I'll keep an eye open for any further complaints on the subject.

Tesco customer service seem to have reigned in their levels of customer service - they always used to go over the top in the way they dealt with complaints, in the customers favour (which perversely just encourages you to complain more!) - however now they've gone too far the other way and are IMO being unreasonable - my last couple of complaints have not been dealt with in what I would consider a reasonable manner.
On my last delivery, I ordered 3 x 750g (Total 2.25 KG) Fruit n Fibre for £4.47.
They substituted it with 4 x 500g (Total 2.0 KG) Fruit n Fibre for £4.47.
I complained that they charged me the same for less, meaning that it was in effect more expensive per unit. I was really angered by the response I received.....we're not talking a lot of money, that wasn't the point, I feel its unreasonable to guarantee that substitutions won't be more expensive, but to then give you less, but charge the same, and say that is acceptable. The implication is it is ok to charge you more per unit on substitutions! (I actually NEVER even look at the price of items when shopping - I ONLY look at the price per unit)
Here's the response I had from them.....

No, it's much better and you don't end up with half of it as dust at the bottom of the box. Tried them all and Aldi's is the best by a huge margin.
