Joined online 3 weeks ago (on MSE recommendation) unable to get any confirmation of cover from them, even following chase up phone call, so as far as I know, they have just stolen my £42

Great service. Had to use it just last week.

I would be concerned that they would try and invalidate claim on the basis of not complying with General Condition 11 namely "Your vehicle must display a valid tax disc"

In all seriousness though it looks a very good deal and thanks to OP for posting as I wasn't even aware of them. Was going to go with Green Flag personal cover for wife and self when my years Ford cover runs out but that would have been £63 for Recovery Plus (and no home cover) so this seems to beat it hands down.

i have used this service for about 5 years now and had to call them for about 10 times so far.. yes my bad :disappointed: services are always great and prompt.
we used to pay out of pocket and then claim, however its all changed, and you dont need to pay at all.
once i broke down on bankholiday weekend in scotland(thats recovery of 150 miles) - on the way back to manchester they had to arrange for 1 recovery to Gretna, and provide me curtsy car to get back to manchester as they couldnt find any local recovery guys at that time of night, and arranged for my car to be recovered next day. all at the cost of just £42 a year, i take it as great service.
Also - on 1 occasion last week, i have to call them twice with the same issue to move a non drivable car, 1st to recover to local garage and then 2ndly to recover from 1 garage to another, they happily sorted it out for me.
further more, they provide services to the 2 named drivers in any car... it doesnt have to be your car that way if you are in someone elses car who dont happen to have breakdown cover - you can call these people and they will ensure you to get home safe.

I should have added that they ask extortionate premium loadings. It's cheaper to get a full new insurance with the medical issues covered.

Isn't that common for any sort of health insurance?
Even pet insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions, etc before you got the insurance

Had to use them 3 times last year, including once for my wife. (Thanks to Renault's dodgy wiring) Turned up within the hour with recovery to a chosen garage, including one from home.
Didn't have to pay and claim, as the mechanic told me that most recovery firms will now bill Autoaid directly.
Can't reccomend them enough, great service for the price.

I cannot believe this is hot. I have car breakdown cover throughout all of europe which covers both me and my wife for pennies compared to this and it covers home breakdowns, etc. I have a nationwide flex plus account.
For £10 per month I get:
phone insurance for 4 mobiles (yes you read that right 4 mobiles) and the excess was only £25 for my xperia z3 last year when it took a tumble.
travel insurance for the 2 of us (joint account) which covers the full world including all the things which usually cost extra like US and canada and water sports, etc.
car breakdown cover throughout europe for the both of us in any car plus the extras which all usually cost extra.
1 year additional warranty on anything electrical we buy.
that's £10 a month and if you stick £2500 in the account you get about £5 worth of interest every month, so it only costs you £5 per month for all of the above. so £60 a year for all of that.
KSauce to PsychoSonny
3 Jan 162#29
This works out at £3.54 p/m. If I have no need for all those extras you've just quoted in my eyes i've just saved £6.46 p/m =)
Although i am with the AA, and i pay an extortionate £18 p/m... Haha... I do get everything though.

That seems like a decent policy as it appears to include post-accident / incident recovery, which some "breakdown" policies exclude and may otherwise involving using car ins policy at risk of NCD loss, loading, etc.
For those wondering about AutoAid's definition of breakdown cover:
"Breakdown – mechanical or electrical breakdown (failures or breakages), flat batteries, punctures, lack of fuel, lost ignition keys or damage which is caused by an accident, vandalism or theft and results in you not being able to drive your vehicle..."
AutoAid's policy can be viewed in browser here.
Nationwide's Flexplus Breakdown policy can be viewed in browser here.
Wait 'til you try to add pre-existing medical to the travel insurance!

Many years ago using Autoaid I had to pay with card then claim back which was promptly done. Last time (clutch went) more recently, Autoaid paid the recovery for me like several posts above mention. Has Autoaid changed the way it works I wonder?

I think so as the most recent recovery for my Dad didn't cost him anything and therefore he didn't have to put a claim in. I assume they must have done this as it saves them money although I thought one of the reasons it was quite cheap would be due to the people who forget to claim.

Don't forget, you can go through comparethemarket.com for AutoAid quote at the same price and then you get the 2for1 cinema benefit :-) EDIT: Oops doesn't look like you get this for breakdown cover DOH! my bad.

Excellent product for the self-employed scammers who include the cost of recovery / roadside repair in their tax return then "forget" to include the reimbursement on the same return.

I called them for the first time last week, had a local firm out within 25mins and after a quick check towed the car to our preferred garage (needed a new clutch cylinder). This was from home address and again had nothing to pay, great service on the phone too.
Does anyone know why there are no costs at the moment?

I work for a recovery company (independent), and we work for all the breakdown clubs, the service you get from us is the same across all companies. There may be different levels of cover to bear in mind like home start, or only local recovery , which you need to look into closely, but apart from that , the service is exactly the same for all breakdown clubs except for the AA and RAC, who generally keep you waiting for three hours and then decide to use us anyway....

Been using them for years . Only had need of one claim which was paid in days. It is a good price for what one gets and I get my caravan covered as well.

Will be taking out a policy with them this week.
when people say it covers partner as well is that in their own car or the same car?
Also I can see the benefits of using a cashback credit card as any refund by Auto aid will be the full amount.

Yeah my dad has all very efficient and quick to pay out once you put a claim in.
Also useful to point out that it covers the person not a specific car. Although I think you have to be driving it rather than a passenger.

Yes, a couple of times over the years. You phone them and they organise a roadside repair or rescue/recovery. You pay the bill yourself, which potentially could be £100s for a big recovery including hotel. Claim back the bill and get the money in about a week. If you paid on credit card you won't even be missing any money. No hassle at all in my experience.

Yes, several times over the years....
Since with Autoaid I have had my car transported home, and the company said they have contracts to provide exactly the same service for all the main breakdown companies...... who charge you higher fees than Autoaid.
I used to be with the AA, and could always negotiate a lower fee over the phone with them.
About 5 years ago they suddenly wouldn't offer a lower premium (had been with them for decades) so moved to Autoaid.
I have not regretted the move yet.

I used them once to get my car back to my local garage from 40 miles away, no problem at all. My brother in law once used them to get his car recoverred home while on holiday in Scotland, the recovery cost about £500 and they paid him the money within a coupld of weeks no problem at all.
They can often have better covourage than the RAC or AA as they just use whatever local recovery firm is available anywhere in the UK.

Yes, called AutoAid, they sent a local firm to collect the car. We weren't billed or provided with a receipt there and then, so had to pay the local company on the phone and they said they would send a receipt. It took about 6 calls and 6 apologies, but they still never sent the receipt, in the end we had to send a bank statement to Autoaid, who promptly paid us back.
It all rather depends on the local company who is sent out to you, but it took many hours of effort and eventually months for us to get the money back.
Autoaid themselves were fine.
Quickblood to Madhatchetman11
4 Jan 16#34
Yes twice. They just call someone local out to you so you need to pay that person and keep the receipts to claim your money back from autoaid. It means you can't really review autoaid as how good the service you receive is, is based on who is called out to help you when you breakdown.

3 Jan 16#24
Looks like I'll have to sign up. So if the mechanic fixes the car on the roadside you pay him and AUTOAID pay you back. Otherwise they tow the car to where you want, you pay the recovery guy and then auto aid pays you back?
kiish to EN1GMA

That's correct, in some cases they work with a specific local partner and you don't pay anything.

+1 to recommend. Ive been relying on them for last few years and costs fraction in comparison to similar level cover from RAC or AA. I did had few callouts at home (puncture and flat battery) and once off motorway but they always arranged local recovery company without long wait and subsequently paid the claim without any fuss.

RAC asks roughly 140 for the same cover - agree there is a potential £58 of quidco Cashback and a £50 Amazon gift voucher - which could make it 32 for a year - but then there are so many ifs and buts there !

Ive had this policy for a few years but on this New Years day was the first time i had to call them out.
Hit my car on the kerb when parking and got a flat tyre. Which i was unable to get off my self. Called Auto Aid and they said they would get someone out to me within the hour.
The recovery guy turns up 40 mins later and we were able to change my tyre (put the spare on) and i went on my way. Have to say it was a brilliant service from start to finish. From the call centre person i initially spoke to the recovery guy who turned up.
I didnt even pay anything to the recovery person. I was told on the phone that i wouldn't need to pay the recovery person and that the cost would be dealt with by them - was a little surprised having read all the comments about recovering the cost yourself afterwards directly with Auto Aid.
I even had a courtesy call from Auto Aid a few hours to later ensure everything went OK.
First class service and highly recommended to those considering Auto Aid.
