update includes new maps and multiplayer game modes plus Forge where you can build your own map. Do it!

Yup - fair warning - I turned my Xbox on for the first time in a while and the process of updating the console and then installing and updating the game took 2 hours. That's on a 40mbps connection!
Remember when the games we bought were finished products!?!

not gonna lie, was extremely disappointed with halo 4 but this one seems like an actual improvement, not just the mp but the sp as well

Yeah, I really hate when a game's updated and gives you extra content for free.

Especially GTA V, that's the worst. Nearly every other time I go to play it seems there is more content for free that I haven't paid for. What a scam.

As someone who doesn't have a lot of spare time, wasting two hours waiting for content to download that I'm not going to use isn't a great experience.
I typically only get to play the main campaign of any game once - multiplayer maps and forge are great for people without a busy schedule, just not for everyone, and the little time I had that was nearly completely spent updating it. I played less than 10mins of the first level before having to leave the house
Background downloads and overnight updates are the solution, and should be possible, but I don't see that happening for games any time soon
So forced updates are fine for some, not all, and it's not a good business model to treat all customers the same

If they want to throw in some free campaign levels - I'd happily wait for them to DL! Unfortunately, whilst multiplayer content is often free, single player content rarely is.
So, I'd simply rather not have to DL stuff in not going to use. If it was a couple of hundred MB, that's one story, but 18GB is something else.

put your console on instant on mode and it will download available updates as and when they become, well, available. No more waiting.

As I understand it, and correct me if I'm wrong but that would solve the issue with the OS (which I am all for), but sadly not for individual game updates.
I think I'd still have a problem with an 18GB DL starting without my permission.
The other issue is that I still have games installed on my console that I don't own anymore so having them auto update would be wasteful
I suppose an option to switch on/off auto updates for individual games would be great, as well as being able to select the file size you're happy to auto update without needing user authentication.
There isn't an elegant solution for this issue yet. In one or two console generations I expect cloud gaming / streaming to become the norm and the issue simply won't exist anymore
I guess it annoys me more because I literally only get the chance to play a couple of hours a month of I'm lucky and because of that, EVERY time I play I have to update something.
Also hesitant to auto update anyway since Sony bricked a number of consoles with an update a while ago (luckily not mine)
Looking forward to playing some halo over the holidays though!

Much of the update wasn't extra content but content that you already paid for but wasn't included on disc. Aside from the regular absurdity of it, it's bad news for those of us unfortunate to have ISP that have instituted download caps. Not a lot of foresight was put in to this method of delivery.
